Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

I believe that I lost the battle for shiny Heatran... I'm patient but there is such a small coloration difference between original and shiny plus im not even that fond of it... I want it but it doesn't feel worth it...

Plus other shinies are calling :) like chansey and todays swarmer

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

You guys are so lucky to be able to further your study. Me, I'm just a high school graduate and I have been working since I was 18. That was like, 10 years ago. I was hoping I can further my study right after I finished high school back then, but my family can't afford it. I have been working since then and now that our financial have been improving, I'm thinking about continuing my study while working. Amybe that is why my English is so pathetic.

Back to chaining, my Dusclop chain broke 5 times, and I'm beat.

I think you can find the chart somewhere in this thread. I remember someone posted it last year.

Yeah I don't blame you, I don't have the patience to SR for a shiny. I think chaining is more likely to pay off.

is there any way to find it?

Well, I could post the image if anyone knows how to do that, and if it's allowed. Do I just go to where it says attach files?

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Listen to this: Last year I was chaining 24/7 and I cam up to 35 snubull, 40 dodou, and so many more, but I would always lose. Overtime I gave up on chaining because it was so frustrating and started to hatch eggs. One day aka the next I hatched my 6th Torterra egg and guess what I got, A SHINY TURTWIG! That is truthfully the only time that I actually got a shiny.. In emerald I got a shiny ampharos and then butterfree and arbok but no techniques, just luck..
I have a new theory for getting a good pokemon .. maybe not shiny but atleast a good one.. Go to the gts with a baby pokemon, and offer it for that same one level 10 and up, wait a day and when you get it back offer for level 20 and up, then 30 and up, and so on until 100. I had an aipom level 1 and traded it for level 10, then 20, but my outcome was level 32 aipom, so then straight to 40, and I got back a level 99 SHINY aipom. This was yesterday, so i reccomend to do this, less stress, and my brother got a shiny rampardos from this same thing =] IT WORKS, but give it time =]

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Howdy folks - I just captured 7 shiny Venonats. Now, I know Venomats suck, they're not the greatest Pokes (the shinies ones are kinda cool though). However, I do feel very good because Venonats have an encounter rate in Pearl of 2% on Route 229 (according to Serebii).

One hypothesis floating along in "Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar" is that Pokemon with low encounter rates have a high incidence of chain breaking. Some have speculated this is attributed to a high probability of a random factor in the probability formula for chaining.

I'm not so sure of that random factor thing right now -- I've been continuing to work on some ideas that seem to be rather productive -- I'm not ready to publish them quite yet.

However, I was able to take my chain right up to 40 after encountering Venonat ONCE (in other words, I had no previous chain starts with Venonat that broke -- the first time I encountered it with the Poke radar I chained right up to 40).

The bad news -- I have to do a LOT of resetting following these new ideas. So it's not a "quick fix" I feel its worth it when compared to breaking a chain and starting over.

Good luck chaining!!

CrownFire, if you think Venonats suck so much, I'd be happy to take one off your hands.

Anyway, it looks like I won't be getting a lot of chaining done this weekend. Stupid homework...

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Hey guys -- this thread is a pain to find the nuggets of wisdom within -- at the same time Bulbagarden Forums have an associated wiki site -- Bulbapedia. But Bulbapedia's articles on Poke Radar, chaining, and shinies are PATHETIC!! The very first entry in this thread gives more detailed information than what's currently in Bulbapedia.

Back a few weeks ago dukeburger and Totoro were wishing there was some way to get important points to noobs -- complaining that they are buried in this very long thread. I've done some research on the web looking at guides but they suffer from being frozen in time while here the understanding of the fine points of chaining for shinies continues to be refined. Anybody interested in working on one or more wikis over in Bulbapedia where we can render out the nuggets from all the other discussion that goes on here? Seems like it could be a living, breathing, state-of-the-art resource for Chainers that would be relatively concise compared to mining this thing.

I've never worked on a wiki so I don't know what's all involved. I just got signed up with Bulbapedia today and will look into it as I can.

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

CrownFire, that's a great idea. I'm willing to help, although I too have no idea what's involved. You're right, looking on the page about the Pokeradar, there is barely anything that explains how to find shiny Pokemon with it, and on the shiny Pokemon page, it doesn't even mention how there's an easier way of finding shiny Pokemon in gen IV.

I'm just worried that the kind of tutorial/FAQ we're looking to make wouldn't be the kind of thing allowed on a bulbapedia article. I'm really not sure. Is there someone we could ask? We'd also have to worry about less experienced people being to edit it and put incorrect/misleading information on it. And we'd have to worry about it becoming too convoluted. I could be wrong, but personally I find that FAQ over at Smogon on chaining to fit that description.

Would it be better to just make the standard FAQ of our own, but continuously update it? But then we'd have to find a way of making our's stand out over others, and make sure that it could get widely recognized. Hmm...

I'd be willing to help. Do you want me to talk to Archaic about it the next chance I get?

That's a great idea. I hope you guys can pull it through.

Not really about chaining, but this picture shows the results of the EV training of my shiny Donphan, Phan-Club.

does any one have the shiny probabilty chart?

Hi everyone...haven't been chaining or posting much lately, but look in on all of you now and then, mostly cause I'm so fond of you...

Anyway, the wiki sounds interesting. There are more than enough experts to guide this here at this point, but I'd also be happy to look at it and add any tidbits, or help in the development if it's needed. As always, the interest in community and helping others is what made this such a fun place to come to when I was chaining (probably will start again once I get Platinum!)

Anyway, I saw a request for the magical graph. I don't know where the original is, but found an old post of mine with one that I marked up with the odds at several links in the chain, so maybe that will help (http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/showpost.php?p=426346&postcount=2008). For what it's worth on the question of where to stop...I always stop at 39 and tell myself I will not go after #40, but will instead wait for a shiny to be #40. That works about 1/2 the time as I often go after a patch if it's taking a long time, but at least I start out with that mindset and so make sure I go after a really good candidate for #40. Still, I've probably had 2 dozen chains break at 39, and they hurt the worst!!

Best to you all!

P.S. Congratulations Eevee Breeder...any shiny's a good shiny! :D

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

I did encounter a shiny patch when I was chaining my 40th chain (39 to 40). After I caught the shiny (which make the chain count 40), I started resetting the pokeradar for a while before I got another shiny.

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Hi Totoro. It's been a while since your last post. I too want to wait until I get my hand on Platinum, to start chaining again. It's not that I'm bored chaining in my Diamond, but my boxes are almost full. I only have about 3,4 space left. :(
