I have stopped chaining from being scared of the frustration - any tips or strategies to help anyone?

Sorry, ShinyHunter. If I ever get a shiny Gligar, it's MINE -- I will have worked my ass off for it, and I sure as hell ain't giving that away. ;-)

Anyway, as for advice, the best I can offer is this: be paranoid about the patches you go into. And no, paranoid is not an exaggeration.

How do you think the rest of us figured it out? Practice, practice, and more practice.

And even when you think you've mastered it, practice more!

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

^ Well, at least you caught it! Although I have to ask, what made you want to catch a Spearow that you didn't know was shiny? :p

Tried for Gligar again, but failed. It's annoying because I haven't even made a chain past 15 or so with those guys yet, despite the fact that I'm being EXTREMELY cautious, and going exclusively to those plain circle patches I like so much. To make matters worse, they're breaking on 4-7 patches. Grrr. This reminds me of trying to chain Eevee. And if Gligars are anything like Eevee was for me, it will be a long, uphill battle!

So, I asked this before but didn't get a response - do you guys think it's better to chain dongle method Pokemon in plain patches or sparkling patches? I've yet to determine whether or not being able to find "rare" Pokemon in sparkling patches more easily denotes Pokeradar Pokemon only, or if the game truly does mean "rare" in general. In any case, my best dongle method chain was in fact in sparkling patches (chain of 37 or so Magbys, broken to a stupid Fearow).

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

I haven't been on here for a while because I've been taking a break from chaining. I finally decided to try to get back into it and went for my swarm, Nosepass. I got up to 40 and started resetting and within 10 minutes, I got a shiny! 5 minutes later I got number 2! I kept going and about a half hour after I started resetting, I got number 3! I kept going for another hour until I ran out of repels with no luck. But I am so excited about the 3 I did get. Diamond shinies #2-4 and the first time I ever caught multiple shinies. It was a very productive and very exciting day!

i would total trade one of them for that phione (i got all the others, even the shiny medicham and roselia) but my wi-fi isnt up right now so sorry.

anyway i ended up getting nine shinys before i got annoyed and left. i think im gonna go after sentret again. that poke is cursed for me. ive gotten to 40 twice and i always do something stupid and dont get any shinys.

congrats on all your shinys guys.

Most likely yes if the chain is broken you are back to your 1/8192 chance but you may get lucky and find one anyway

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Oh man, so by some miracle, I'm at a chain of 39 Gligars. I am SO scared of trying to bring this chain to 40 (I sound like I've never made it there before...), but I also know how impatient I am. Should I try resetting at 39 or be brave? Ahhhh! Maybe I should give myself say, a 50 super repel limit and if nothing shows up, go for it? However, I have the feeling I will go for the first safe looking patch I see. In any case, it looks like I'm not going to bed any time soon. Someone's gonna be super grumpy at school and work tomorrow!
