Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Nice work Dukeburger...now have some chicken soup and go back to bed!

Haha, okay, going back to bed now! Just wanted to say that I managed to catch 6 shiny Croagunks before my finger slipped. I just wasn't concentrating due to being sick... and number 7 was taking FAR too long to appear (it was close to 80 max repels). 5 out of 6 are adamant though, so it's all good. I'll check IVs later when I'm not feeling so lazy.

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Quick question.. What are the odds of a shiny appearing at a chain of 30? 35?

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

I'm not sure if any of this has already been said, but here's a few things I keep in mind when hunting shinies (Note that up to now, I've had no luck catching shinies, though I've racked up my chains a bit):

1: That the "furthest patch is the same pokemon you just encountered" rule doesn't apply to pokemon you encountered outside of Pokeradaring.

2: It's expensive, but combining LVL 100 Pokemon and Nest Balls is very useful when chaining low level pokemon. Alternatively, most unevolved pokemon succumb as easily to Quick Balls as they would Master Balls. These two pokeballs are your very special friends.

3: In relation to the tip above, the Chain will continue if you capture every pokemon in the chain instead of KOing it. Again, Quick Balls and Nest Balls are your friend. This also helps you amass pokemon for Pokemon Ranch, if you're trying to get Mew from there.

4: In Platinum, the Battlegrounds Gym Leaders are not only a good source of experience, but also of Money, especially if you have an Amulet Coin or Luck Incense equipped, and this money is useful for buying Quick Balls and Max Repels.

5: Bring a Pokemon that knows Pickup, as they will likely pick up an item while you're chaining.

6: Put a Pokemon in the Daycare, as they will likely level up or Breed while you're chaining.

7: You know what, bring anything that depends on encounters/steps taken while you're chaining. They'll likely update while you're chaining.

8: In the beginning (1-10 Chained) of the Chain, listen to some music while you're chaining. This is good for your sanity.

9: After Chaining 10 Pokemon, turn off your music and listen to the Game's tune, as this will keep you alert.

10: Remember, that Bidoof that broke your chain will only exist as long as you let it, and that Hyper Beam/Giga Impact/STAB-LVL100-anything is a good way to relieve stress.

11: If you start getting frustrated despite the above, feel free to do something else, either in-game or otherwise. That Shiny Pikachu will still be there when you get back, trust me.

12: The tips located on http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/showthread.php?t=19695 are crucial to success.

Shhh... I'm hunting Sparkly Pink Wabbits...

Re: Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar

Is anyone having luck at chaining? My luck has been pretty bad lately. X_X Yesterday, chaining Mareeps, my chain broke at both 33 AND 34. =C

Oh my god... Its been like 3 hours and my chains keep breaking at like 5-8...I hate this xD I keep like seeing two that are close and can't decide which one is the one and then I accidently walk to far and get out of the radar ._. this is so hard Dx

Don't think so, but can't check, I'm chaining Swinub...up to about 25 ATM.

Oh noooo! I finally made a 40 chain of magnemite but it took an HOUR. I quit, but I'll start again cause I love shinies. But still!

Now I'm gonna see what's swarming... YAY! Larvitar!!!:D I would prefer a beldum but larvitar is cool too

Shiny hunter, did you get to 40 and not get a shiny? Why not? You know about having to run and reset, right? Don't just chain to 40 and decide if you haven't gotten a shiny by then you can't. Your odds don't improve after a chain of 40, so don't build any more links after you have 40, but then the fun starts...just start running and resetting for shinies. You should be able to get tons if you want to...it's up to how patient you want to be running and resetting. Check out my webpage in my sig, I have a couple videos on it and one shows the running and resetting process.

congrats on shellos :)

Thank you Eevee Breeder. They weren't that hard actually, even though that patch of grass was a little small.

Quick question.. What are the odds of a shiny appearing at a chain of 30? 35?

Check out the link in my sig, there's a graph right at the top that shows the odds as your chain length increases.

You're a riot James the Fox!

It just takes practice....like most things. Good luck! You'll get good at it if you want to keep trying and learning, just like the rest of us...we're certainly not gifted in any way...just too stubborn to give up!

Also, you should avoid double- and triple-posting. Just hit the edit button on your original message if you want to add something after you've submitted. That way the mods won't come to your house and throw a brick through your window! :D

Well, resetting doesn't mean resetting your DS. Resetting means that when you get to that point in your chain, you stop in one spot, and use your radar again. If no shiny patch shows up, take 50 steps (just go between 2 squares that didn't shake), then use the radar again, using repels as necessary. Rinse and repeat until a shiny patch shows up.
