So far, you have the record for the most resets between shinies (#50- 11,214 steps)!
That's only if you discount my 11,303-step run between my third and fourth shiny Geodudes, as you appear to have. =)

Yay, just got a shiny Ghastly! Thanks to the person who told me where to chain them, I really wanted a shiny Gengar. And again, decided if it ain't broke don't fix it and decided to reset after 25. This one took me longer to reset than the first two shinies I caught, but it was worth it not to break the dang chain. Anyway, I'm going to start building the chain again to see if I can get another, but this might satisfy me enough to start actually spending time training my PBR team!

I chained Buneary to 36, taking me 2015 steps, and started to test if it takes longer to get a shiny at lower chains. I got to 11396 steps, and ran into another patch while recharging the radar. AARRRGGHHHH!! Two hours of resetting down the drain, and not a single shiny to show for it. I think I'll leave the short-chain resetting to those who prefer to do it.

Stupid place to put a Budew, anyway.

Edit: Update on Eterna Forest chaining:

Got and lost a whole series of other chains, until eventually I found a Buneary again. After twelve Bunearys and 558 steps, I got a shiny - told you I was owed a short-chain shiny. =)

Unfortunately, I lost the chain in the high twenties without seeing any more shinies, to another Budew. Then I had a whole bunch more failed chains, until eventually I got a Nincada chain to stick around until I'd chained 40, at 1719 steps. I got a shiny Nincada at 4404 steps, but then slipped while recharging at around 4860 or so, and lost the chain. I really should stop slipping, shouldn't I?

On a side note, I don't get why people nominate Eterna Forest as one of their favourite chaining areas. There's only one patch in the whole place that's even close to being big enough, and it's not a good shape. Plus, there's too many Pokemon available, of roughly equal probabilities. I'm not planning to do any more chaining there.

If you're still needing data, I have some from my Glameow chain. It's still going, but I'll be busy for the next little while so I'm not sure when I can continue. I just really want a shiny male Glameow, I've promised a friend I'd find one for her... but so far, all 15 have been female. ;_; I'm not feeling so lucky.

Anyway, I didn't start keeping track until the chain was at 45, but here's the data for that and onwards:

45 : 6703 steps :: 107 resets :: 375 patches
46 : 5374 steps :: 86 resets :: 301 patches
47 : 1689 steps :: 27 resets :: 95 patches
48 : 675 steps :: 11 resets :: 38 patches
49 : 2264 steps :: 36 resets :: 127 patches
50 : 11214 steps :: 179 resets :: 628 patches
51 : 6793 steps :: 109 resets :: 380 patches
52 : 1286 steps :: 21 resets :: 72 patches
53 : 4947 steps :: 79 resets :: 269 patches

Hopefully I did my math right... but feel free to correct anything. ^^;

Here's an updated chart with your data added Niele:

You fit right in with the pack. Now if we can just get some data below 40. Anyone that uses that approach (resetting at 30-35 or so) please track your steps and share what you get!

Very interestng, Totoro!

Okay, I got my last shiny (with the chain at 56) after 12488 steps, and finally it's a male! So I think I'm going to quit now, I'm just too sick of this and now I have more Glameow than I know what to do with. But it was fun contributing to the experiment!

Next time, I'll try resetting at around 30-35. No idea what that'll be... whenever I get another urge to chain, I guess.

ok, i'v neen folling the rules and can't get a chain past 10, does slow and fast moving non sparkly grass affect your chain if you step in fast but it should have been slow?

EDIT:nevermind it does also,i think if the patch is 4 or 5 away it could break your chain if its a differint shake(at least for me it does)

A patch of a different type is likely to break your chain, even if it's the furthest one away. That said, if you're always aiming for tiles that are only four or five steps away, then you're running rather a high risk of your chain failing, since there are twenty-four possible positions that are further away.

10 Geodudes-218 steps
20 Geodudes-740 steps
30 Geodudes-1,483 steps
40 Geodudes-2,416 steps
50 Geodudes-3,476 steps
58 Geodudes-3,882 steps. Chain broke.

That is the highest I ever went.....no shiny Geodude...

I've had no luck chaining in the last 48 hours...T.T
I know exactly how you feel. =)

Im in the gts right now, so if you already have my frinend code and want to trade, pm me and i will trade
1. The GTS is not where you do trades with other people with Friend Codes. That's what the WFC Room is for, and that's downstairs in any Pokemon Center.

2. This isn't the thread for arranging trades anyway.

That is the highest I ever went.....no shiny Geodude...
Congrats on getting a long chain. It's always a pain when you lose chains, especially if they're long and shine-free. If I might make a suggestion, though, when you get to 40 or thereabouts, stop chaining and just start resetting the radar exclusively. It can take a while, but it removes the risk of breaking a chain by running into the wrong patch. Note that (at least according to current theories) it takes approximately fifty resets to get one shiny, while increasing a chain to 58 only gives you eighteen, or thirty-six if it takes two resets per Geodude.

1) I thought this was the trading coordination thread by accident. im sry
2) Every time someone makes a post in the wrong thread, politely tell them its the wrong thread for them to post that, and if theyve been on bulbagarden long enough, you should no it was a mistake.
you shouldnt make a big fuss about it

I agree that people should stay on the thread topic, but if they mess up only 1 time, i mean common, dont be mean.
