so, In your opinion, whats the easiest pokemon to Chain ? I heard that Lux-something (I know the pokemon, I dont remember the name) was the easiest to chain, since you can put a static pokemon, and you would get to get more chains, yet my longest chain is 17 T.T, so, whats the easiest pokemon to chain for you, people ?

Geodudes on Route 207. They've got at least a 55% chance of appearing at all times, so even if you run into the wrong patch by accident, you've still got better than one in two chance of not breaking your chain.

... Shinx? Luxio and Luxray are its two evolutions. Yes, there are benifits to chaining Electric-types with Static Pokemon, but the trick is to find a route which only has one Electric-type present, otherwise the other one is going me mess up your chain. Most Shinx appear on the same route as Pachirisu. If memory serves, Route 222 has Flaaffy as its sole Electric Pokemon, but they're reasonably rare.

Actually, Shinx is the only electric type to appear normally on Routes 202, 203 & 204.

Got a couple new personal records yesterday in chain lengths (yet still no shinies): 19 Delibird and 12 Pichu. Getting better, I guess.... I'm constantly thwarted by patches which should contain my target pokemon, according to the rules (more like guidelines than actual rules. lol) These seem to pop up roughly every 10th in the chain, near as I can tell, and are very very hard to avoid. Otherwise, I'm starting to get a better sense for which ones to go for, and remembering to reset when I'm not 100% sure (VERY difficult when there's sleet or sand blowing across the screen! Ugh!) I know I should be practicing on more common pokemon - it'd be more likely to catch a shiny and keep me from getting too frustrated - but at the same time I'm also trying to capture rare pokemon and obtain rare items. I'm a multi-tasker. :)

I wish Poke Radar would work in conjunction with the Item Finder feature of the Poketch (placing various shimmering blips on the screen or something.) :( But then I suppose that would make it too easy. :p

hmmm I had that same problem.. i could have sworn the grass patch shook in EXACTLY the same manner.. but whether that was just me from concentrating soo hard -_-

but just my thought... it could just be random? (apart from the obviously wrong shakes)

Well, I told you that I will stop chaining, but I started again..:p

All I need to complete the pokedex are electabuzz and electivire and I´ve got an elekid with its evo-item sitting in my box and I wanted to train it for my team anyway, BUT I decided to return to chaining ONE MORE TIME to get a shiny elekid, and after many tries with broken chains, I resetted at a chain of 20 until a shiny patch appeared ^^ took me 80 max repels.

So I guess lower chains are worth resetting as well.

What a wonderful day ^^

ARGH!!!! So not fair.... My longest chain so far... 39 Shinx. I actually said out loud, "Okay, one more then it's reset only til I get a shiny." Got 4 patches, two were shiny but didn't look glowy like in the youtube video so I ignored them. One of the plain patches was too close. The other was furthest at exactly 7 steps away. No cause for alarm right? But no... it was a CATERPIE! Ugh! I HATE Caterpie now! :p From now on, I'm takin out the GBA carts while chaining unless trying to chain something that requires a GBA cart. :'(

I need to spend some time now beating up rich trainers so I can buy a load of Max Repels. heh

Well, yeah - but it takes exponentially more resetting. Eighty Max Repels corresponds to 20,000 steps, whereas we're averaging only 3000 while resetting at 40.

I know exactly how you feel. I lost a chain of Ghastly at 38 last night to a stinking Bibarel.

Super Repels are better value for money.

steps per shiny with a standard deviation of 3414.184 - though you can tell there's a pretty high deviation just by looking at the graph. =) Though maybe I've just forgotten everything I knew about statistics, but wouldn't a standard deviation of zero display strong correlation?
Damnit, I meant the correlation coefficient when I said that. I've not taken a math course since my junior year of high school, forgive my terminology.

Now I wonder if that obscenely large standard deviation indicates anything to us...an SD of 4 is supposedly huge, so that would make 3414.184...?

Actually, a difference from the mean of four Standard Deviations is considered huge. The actual Standard Deviation depends on what the mean is.

And clearly I wasn't paying attention when I did statistics, because I have no idea how to calculate a "correlation coefficient". =)

First chained shiny! :) A female shiny Shinx (which in itself is fun to say. heh) Man, that was exciting. heh As I got up around 25, I focused on resetting and only took the patches which I felt absolutely and completely positive about. My 42nd Shinx was shiny. 17 Max Repels. And the chain's still going... just thought I'd take a break to share. heh

I was afraid I wouldn't notice the shiny pokemon's patch (since, after awhile into the chain, it even gets hard to tell if the rustling is glistening or not) but you definitely can't miss it. Unless of course it happens to be positioned right behind your head or that of an NPC. Ugh.

Update: After 23 more Max Repels, the 50th Shinx was a shiny male. (Nothing was happening just resetting, so I took a chance and beat a few more, then went back to resetting.) Shinx is definitely a good Pokemon on which to gain confidence in your chaining (especially you have a lead Pokemon with the Static abililty. Elekid's definitely earned his poffin tonight. lol)

Hey... if both parents are shiny, is there an increased chance that an offspring will also be shiny...? Anybody know?

Anyway, still going....

Done: Weird. It seemed to max out at 61.... I beat a Shinx, making the total 61, and it did the usual auto-reset or whatever of the radar, but my active chain counter was removed from the Poketch. I entered the ideal patch and encountered a Starly.

Anyway, final count was 61 Shinx with a total of 55 Max Repels used. 4 shiny Shinx were captured, 2 male, 2 female. Nice haul. And a pretty decent improvement eh? :)

Now to sleep.

Yes, I am aware of that. Normally I won´t start resetting at such a low number, but some pokemon, especially rare pokemon tend to be hard to chain. The over 20,000 were worth it ;p

Congrats on the shinies, ElfRing ^^

After a long and horrible shiny drought, I finally got me another shiny - a Tauros. It's not the Pokemon I wanted to chain, but it's the only one I could get a hold of. I was after Chansey, but I spent half an hour trying to get one to start a chain, only to lose the chain at two in a 4-7 patch of the same type to a Miltank, a Pokemon so rare that the one that broke my chain is the first one I've ever seen in the wild. I must be the luckiest person alive - what are the odds that I'd run into a rare Pokemon in a guaranteed chain-continuing space? After a long while spent trying to get another Chansey, or at least a Mime Jr or Ghastly, I decided to settle for Tauros, since I kept running into it most of the time (whenever I didn't run into Bibarel or Starly, anyway).

In any case, it took me 1706 steps to get to forty, then I got my first shiny at 4154 steps. Then at 7057 steps, I looked away from the screen at exactly the wrong moment and ran into a Starly. I think I'm getting kinda tired of chaining.

On a side note, I was paying careful attention (some of the time, at least) and didn't see any different type of normal shaking patch. Mind you, I didn't see any different type of glittery shaking patch either, so maybe we're all imagining things. =)

Oh well, off to bed.

Woah, horrible day of chaining today... most broken by Bidoof or it's uglier, more deformed evolution Bibarel. First was a chain of 19 Machop, then a chain of 26 Staravia. Next was a chain of Shinx which hit 21, before being broken like the others by a Bidoof.
Though I did manage to hit and self-impressionable goal of 13 Snover in the blizzardy grasses, before a Sneasel decided to have a nosey at what I was doing.

Just a flying question, where can you chain Pikachu's? I never knew you could.

Please don't say Eterna Forest...
