Simple Questions and Answers Thread for BST! (Read First Post)

hey guys,
i want to use Pikachu in a OU tier, what moveset and spread could i use?

Pikachu is a really bad Electric type to use in OU. It's so frail that it falls quickly to any EQ user. Light Ball can give it a bit of a chance, but overall it's completely outclassed by Jolteon, Magnezone, and even ELectivire (especially ELectivire...that thing can do a full sweep with one Speed Boost). But if you really want to, here's my advice:
FIrst of all, you NEED a Light Ball. Itdoubles the rodent's Attack and Special Attack, and is the only thing at gives it hope. Secondly, you need Substitute as a move. Without it, Pikachu will easily be revenge killed by Dugtrio. The rest of the moves generally differ on what you want to use your Pikachu for. I'd recommend a Special Sweeper set, with Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Ice (Again, for Dugtrio), and Grass Knot to round out coverage. Obviously, I'm going by the book here, since Pikachu doesn't have that many viable options.
EV spread, max out Special Attack and Speed, and put the rest in Defense. it won't do you much good, but it'll hopefully give you one extra point that might save your life one day (not likely, but who knows?).

If my Aerodactyl used Taunt on an Empoleon, and said Empoleon used Hydro pump the same move, would Hydro pump work and bring my Aerodactyl to its Focus Sash?

Taunt only prevents "non-attacking" moves. Hydro Pump is an attacking move. Depending on the EVs of both pokemon the focus sash may/may not be activated

yeah true, but what if i baton pass, an agility and
use ninjask for a bit, then maybe get either a swords dance or nasty plot in and get to pikachu?
also Dugtrio is rarely used in OU so i doubt he would be a threat

Oh, thats my bad i'm afraid, I thought the bio said PHYSICAL moves (Hydro pump is a special move)

goldenpoke: he said dugtrio because it traps pikachu. Anything with priority or with above base 90 speed (i think) can kill it. Its just that you can swith out. If you plan to send boosts to it, why not send them to jolteon or magnezone, or raichu, manectric, etc.

Because Pikachu can be a better mixed sweeper >:D

Lol.
It's be funny, sure, but the fact remains that unless you get crazy hax, it's not gonna happen. There isn't much Pikachu can do that Jolteon can't (make that nothing Pikachu can do that Jolteon can't.

actually, pikachu can go mixed and beat blissey with focus punch. I actually do that on my Middle Cup team

Good point, but Blissey's not going to be the only thing they have, will it? You'd need to wait till much later in the game once you've scouted all Pokemon. Jolteon stands a much better chance of sweeping.
Plus, since Pika lacks instant recovery, and Blissey has crazy HP and Special Defense, they can just keep attacking with FLamethrower and whittle away at Pikachu's health. You can't Focus Punch because of the Flamethrower, and your THunderbolts will do next to nothing damage. And if you even try Volt Tackle you'll be hurting yourself more than Blissey.
Actually, one tactic that might work is using Volt Tackle, then Focus Punch. Of course, if you Focus Punch and they don't use Softboiled, you give away you're whole tactic and they'll se Flamthrower and Softboiled mixed, and it'll be a predict war.

How come almost everyone who has a Lucario make them purely physical? I rarely ever see a Lucario with any special attacks. And while I'm at it, why is it so ridiculous to think a Lucario could run a mixed set? Sure, the EV spread may not allow to max Speed on the moveset. But is that really a good reason not to attempt making a mixed Lucario? It's got Agility after all. Anyone wanna fill me in here?

@chihuahuaowner: It's a online Pokemon battle simulator that can be downloaded here. Don't worry, it's a perfectly safe program.

Because special sets are more easily walled and it doesn't have a comparable boosting move for it like SD. Also, because CC is so damn good on it with STAB and does way more damage as a whole than Aura Sphere. The reason people don't run mixed sets is that there isn't a great need to and the fact that Lucario's offenses are average on their own, so it's best to focus on just one attacking stat. As for not running max speed, Lucario's speed is average to the point where SD Lukes running Adamant is a bold and risky choice. And why use Agility when you can boost its attack to monstrous heights with SD? Sure, tons of things resist/are immune to ES but it's the smarter thing to do. Though apparently a physical Agility set is making rounds nowadays.

Take note that it wasn't always like this; SD Luke wasn't the ultimate standard set for Luke until it got the punches in Platinum. Even though Ice Punch is rarer now.

Hopefully that helped.

Makes sense. Platinum is the main reason (IMO) that the metagame shifted so much. It just seems like Lucario's 115 SpAtk stat is such a waste if no one's gonna use it, you know?

Oh, definitely. Take the last team you made, for any tier, and take out all the things that use something from Platinum and beyond and it will be very different, if not making some of the team members useless. On the subject of Luke, I prefer to think of it as unused rather than wasted; 5 more SpA points really isn't that great of a difference and it's not "wasted" if it can't be used as well (at laest imo). So yeah.
