Slowpoke Community Day.jpg
Between the Pokémon Presents and the beginning of Rising Heroes, a brand new in-game season, a wealth of information has been released this week by Niantic and The Pokémon Company about upcoming in-game events coming to Pokémon GO during March, April, and May. These include a Slowpoke Community Day event on March 18th, the Catch Mastery event on March 5th, and the Festival of Colors event from March 8th to 14th. Information has also been made available about how Pokémon GO can connect to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to enable encounters with Roaming Form Gimmighoul, and how Trainers will be able to connect Pokémon GO to Pokémon Sleep once that app launches later this year.

Slowpoke Community Day
Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke will be the featured Pokémon for March 2023 Pokémon GO's March Community Day event. Running from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time on March 18th, both forms of Slowpoke, together with their Shiny variants, will be appearing more frequently in the wild during this event.

Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke that are evolved in Slowbro, Galarian Slowbro, Slowking or Galarian Slowking during this event, or up to five hours afterwards, will learn the Charged Move Surf. This move has 65 power across Trainer Battles, Gym Battles, and Raids. For duration of the Community Day and up to 5 hours afterwards, Trainers will also be able to evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowbro by adventuring with it as their buddy and catching 30 Psychic-type Pokémon, instead of the usual 30 Poison-type Pokémon requirement.

The following event bonuses will also be active throughout the event:
  • 3× Stardust and 2× Candy for catching Pokémon
  • 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive XL Candy from catching Pokémon
  • Lure Modules and Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Trainers can receive an in-game surprise by taking a few snapshots during Community Day
  • One additional Special Trade can be made, for a maximum of two for the day (active from 2:00pm to 10:00pm)
  • Trades made will require 50% less Stardust (active from 2:00pm to 10:00pm)

Additionally, Trainers can get event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop. Slowpoke-themed Hat and Tail Shirt avatar items will also be available for purchase from the in-game shop.

A Community Day-exclusive Special Research story, Field Notes: Slow and Slower, will be available for purchase at US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). This Special Research can also be gifted to any friend with a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher. There will also be free Timed Research focussing on catching Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke, which will reward Trainers with up to 4 King's Rocks, as well as Field Research giving chances to catch Slowpoke and get King's Rocks, Stardust, Ultra Balls and other items.

Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon GO Connectivity.jpg
On Sunday 5 March 2023 from 10am to 8pm local time a Catch Mastery event will occur when Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan will be available in the wild more often. There will be event exclusive Field Research Tasks available from spinning PokéStops and Timed Research which will require specific types of Poké Ball Throws that will give an encounter with Hitmontop with the Timed Research giving up to 40 Hitmontop encounters from completing 10 sets of research tasks. There will be event bonuses of an increased chance of encountering Shiny Hitmonlee, Shiny Hitmonchan and Shiny Hitmontop and there will be 2× XP for catching Pokémon with Nice, Great and Excellent Throws and Curveball Throws. Tyrogue will be available in 7km Eggs during the event and it will be able to be hatched as a Shiny Tyrogue.

Pokémon GO can now connect to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by sending Postcards from Pokémon GO to Scarlet and Violet to encounter Roaming Form Gimmighoul to collect Gimmighoul Coins in Pokémon GO and catch Vivillon with different coloured wing patterns in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet depending on where in the world the Postcard in Pokémon GO was sent and received from. From sending Postcards to Scarlet or Violet a Coin Bag will be received in Pokémon GO which can be used to encounter Roaming Form Gimmighoul for 30 minutes and it can only be used once per day after sending a postcard so another postcard will need to be sent the next day because the Coin Bag resets at midnight. After obtaining the Coin Bag then Golden Lure Modules can also be obtained from sending postcards to Scarlet and Violet which can be used to turn PokéStops into Golden PokéStops to collect Ghimmighoul Coins and more items than usual can be obtained from them and a Roaming Form Gimmighoul can sometimes but rarely be found at the Golden PokéStops. There are new avatar items and stickers which are Gimmighoul themed available in the in-game shop now. The Gimmighoul stickers are also available from PokéStops and opening Gifts. For a limited time there is a box with 9 Gimmighoul Coins available in the in-game shop now.

Pokémon GO Plus +.png
The Pokémon GO Plus + device will be able to be used with Pokémon Sleep and Pokémon GO when it is released in July. When it is connected to Pokémon GO it will automatically use Poké Balls for catching wild Pokémon or you will be able to make to throw Great Balls or Ultra Balls instead and it will also automatically spin PokéStops for getting items. The Pokémon GO Plus + connection to Pokémon GO will also unlock Special Research to encounter a costumed Snorlax with a nightcap. In Pokémon Sleep the white central button can be used to track your sleep when it is placed near your pillow. Features that use sleep data from Pokémon Sleep are planned to be included in Pokémon GO in the future but are currently unannounced.
