Just like Ash leaves all his pokemon at the professor Oak to facilitate the scriptwriting...

James left his Chimecho at his grandparents' house to have them take care of it while it sick. James promised to come back for it once it's better, but it was never seen again outside of fantasy since, and that was on October 13, 2005.

... Ok this will never happen but I just think it would be cool,
Plumeria has a Toxapex in the post game of SM; Maybe TRio and Skull become some sort of friends at the end and Kojirou decides that Mareanie will be happier being trained by a Poison type specialist... than just staying without a trainer at the TR headquarters. Kind of like a Cacnea and Gardenia situation.

I don't see any reason why Mareanie would leave James at the end of the episode. The Toxapex seems to be portrayed as a jerk after all. Maybe she'll have mixed feelings about who to choose after it evolved, since it's now new and exciting, but then at the end of the episode she evolves herself, and becomes mature enough to realize she wants James.

Yeah there is no way Mareanie stays with the Toxapex, who looks like he's a big jerk. If anything, she realizes the guy she loved was not worth it at all and then the episode further solidifies her bond with James.

Hooray for snow days! Now I don't have to miss this episode due to school!
Over here in Finland, snow days aren't even a thing. Kids go to school every day, no matter how much snow there is.

But luckily, I'm on a temporary retirement, so I have all the time in the world to watch the episode as it airs! (As long as I don't forget to watch it, of course...)

My guess is that it's that broken Corsola branch from the first preview. It could be some kind of symbol of Mareanie and Toxapex's old love.
