True, but who knows what may happen. And getting a second Pokémon doesn't necessarily mean Snowy gets no development any more. If anything, Lillie could start tag battling and training Vulpix together with Sandshrew, or another Pokémon.

Point is, Lillie's development is pretty scarce as it is (I think that's something that we can agree on) and I'd personally rather see something happen with her instead of nothing. I see a new Pokémon as something positive in that regard.

Still doesn't tell me why Lillie should get a new pokemon and do to the fact that Lillie has no goal she may get one later, but for right now I still don't get it.

Turtonator is Kiawe's main battle pokemon and already showcased as such. Lilie hardly did anything with her Vulpix since its hatching from the egg. Sandslash is not a "girly" cute enough to merchandise with Lillie.

His Kalos team didn’t scream 'cute' to me, other than Goomy who stands out. They usually give Ash speedy, and 'cool' Pokémon which manage to look cute in their earlier stages, but Goomy was the outlier.
And Sawyer's Slurpuff doesn’t fit the definition of 'badass' in any way.

That's why I said "usually." And even his XY team was not that un-cute to begin with:

Pikachu = Cute
Greninja = Cool
Talonflame = Evolved from Cute to Cool
Hawlucha = Comedic Cute
Goodra = Evolved from Ugly Cute to Cute
Noivern = Evolved from Cute to Cool

His team was mostly cute for 90 percent of XY. And we're talking about XY Ash here, "cool one."

Well, he is an unusual kind of rival. I was referring to early introduced rivals like Gary, Paul, Alain and Gladion.

That's true, we can't totally expect what they're planning, but considering Lillie's character and SM's lack of pokemon battles and captures, it seems more likely to me that they won't give her another pokemon, especially not something like Sandslash. I could be totally wrong about that, but still I think it's the most likely option.

Sandslash does feel like a weird choice for Lillie, but may provide opportunity for development.
It just feels jarring for me that Lillie would capture a fully evolved Pokémon without raising it as a Sandshrew first.

I'd say Pikachu is both cute and cool at the same time. Same for Hawlucha, who tends to swap between cool and comedic cute. The fletching line remained only remained cute for 1/4th of the series (base stage) so I'd say it counts as cool.

Ash's team began as 'cute' but progresses towards cool with the exception of Goodra.

Brock stopped being a rock-specialist the moment he decided to leave his gym to become a breeder. Mudkip and Chespin were regional starters and it was making sense to divide them within main characters instead of giving them all to Ash again. And even though they were shafted, Brock and Clemont still do battle with them from time to time.

If Lillie ends up catching Sandshrew (which is looking more likely to me all the time), she would technically become an Ice-type specialist, which would be a first in Alola. In any canon version of Alola, nonetheless.
