Review SM099: Eievui, Where Are You Going? To Go Anywhere to Meet Up!

It's bad enough that Satoshi has been denied an Eievui for the third freakin' time, but then the animators had to give him a ridiculous pose while Suiren was capturing Nagisa...

Complete garbage Lana got it over Ash, who desperately needs a fifth
They ruined it's cute look too with that shitty haircut
Agreed. We're basically in the final stretch of Sun and Moon and the writer are really picking this time to make some terrible choices. First they decide for Rowlette to never evolve via a terrible gag with it eating an everstone and now they give Eevee, the pokemon obviously here for advertisement of Let's Go to Lana, a character who gets barely any focus. So at this point, they've now wasted 2 advertisement pokemon on her. Had Eevee gone to Ash, not only would it have better served the advertisement role since it would be bound to get plenty of screentime, it would be able to display its Let's Go Eevee original moves. Plus, should Eevee get an evolution in Gen 8, it could have gone with Ash to the next region for that express purpose of advertising the next Eeveelution. With Lana, there's no way in Hell it's even gonna get to do much other than just exist since Lana really doesn't do much of anything important and hasn't in all of Sun and Moon. So now we not only have a wasted Pokemon, but Ash still has 2 slots in his team that don't seem to be getting filled any time soon and we're pretty late in the game. Should they fill them both, it's gonna end up being a rush job where his last 2 pokemon barely have time to get focus. Oh Sun and Moon. I expect nothing and still end up disappointed.

Ditto. Now Ash needs to catch at least two Pokemon to his party in order to enter the Alola Pokemon League.

They don't even have time to develop one more Pokemon for Ash at this point, let alone two. Anything he catches at this point will be really underdeveloped.

At this point, we're basically looking at Snorunt/Gible levels of rushed focus.

And at least at those points, Satoshi only had one empty slot on his team.

I honestly have no idea where this series is going, and not in a good way. Look at this... Satoshi is due to face his final trials and he still has two open slots on his team (as well as a Pokemon that isn't going to evolve), Kaki only has two Pokemon (or three, if Lizardon is counted) yet seemingly wants to enter the Alola League too, the Alola League is likely still just Kakui's pipe dream, we only just got a rival show up. both Sun and Moon game plots have ran their course, the Aether Foundation are now good guys and Team Skull are, as far as we know, just a group of jerks who hang around together with no real plan.

At this rate, I can absolutely see Satoshi beating the fourth trial and Kukui going "Well done Satoshi-chan, you beat all the grand trials. Unfortunately, I haven't actually set up the league yet but once I have I'll be in touch. Here's your diploma from the Pokemon School and a plane ticket back to Kanto. Bye!" before heading indoors and finally consummating his marriage.

Seriously, this episode just furthers the idea that the writers are making this up as they go with no real plan in mind. It's like every other series now is working this way, with a completely different set of writers on each.

We already know the League is actually happening, because it wouldn't have been brought up in the first place otherwise. Alola not having a league at first is a plot point in the games.

Dang it, I didn’t think it wasn’t honestly gonna happen, despite all the rumors. I think Eevee would’ve fit much better with Ash, as this season’s Poipole.

But I still think it probably won’t evolve to Vaporeon, in order to fit in with the Let’s Go promo.

It's been so long since I watched and reviewed and episode, but I had to tune in for this one and I LOVED it. Everything about this episode was great. Nagisa is just the most adorable little fluffball. His and Popplio's friendship is too cute. I'm so glad that Lana caught him. I didn't expect it whatsoever so this was quite a wonderful surprise for me. I'm also thrilled that she caught him in a Dive Ball, I love when they use the non-basic Poke Balls.

It's great that Popplio learned Surf and I love how smug he looked when he was riding it. I also liked that they had Eevee ride the Surf wave since he learned to surf with Mantine.

Harper and Sarah are so adorable. I love them so much. It was also great to finally see Lana's dad and I liked that he'd seen Nagisa when he was still chilling with Mantine.

Tupp wanting to catch Eevee as a way to become poplar with girls was amusing. Like dude, you're like 20+ years old now, let it go. Lol. I did think it was funny how he was walking Eevee on a chain leash in his fantasy. It reminds me of when people put spiked collars on their Yorkies.

Lastly I love how the new haircut Lana gave Nagisa, mainly because it's similar to the one I gave my Eevee in LGE :D I'll miss his long bangs tho, they were cute.

The only thing I didn't like was Persie coming back to be an antagonist again. Seriously, it could have just been Team Skull. We didn't need him coming back to be an asshole just for the sake of it for the 3rd time.

But overall this episode was perfect. 9.7 out of 10 seriously. This is my new favorite episode. :)

Mixed feelings incoming:
  • Well, Lana did indeed catch the Eevee. I guess we all should have seen this coming what with its clear affinity for water in the past Eevee episodes. But, honestly, I thought it was just enjoying itself as it approached the islands of Alola; you can only get there by sea or plane, and clearly Eevee didn't book a plane ticket. I really wanted Ash to get Eevee because, unlike several of the species we've seen before, this Eevee in particular seems more Ash like than most of even his own Pokemon: a big eater, hyper-active, interpersonal, very comic, and has a sense of justice when necessary. Not to mention, Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee are currently ongoing and the anime hasn't shied away from game promotion within a saga before. It's just very, very jarring. Ash obtaining the Eevee would have been a perfect way to showcase off all, if not some, of Partner Eevee's moves while also serving as a vehicle for the next Eeveelution in the next generation. But, I guess not. I mean, they gave Lana this Eevee but not the Dewpider? Who made much more sense thematically for her?
  • I understand an Eevee owned by Ash will eventually retire in some way, shape, or form like Ash's other Pokemon, but the Eevee with Lana will have it even worse because Lana doesn't necessarily get a lot of screen time in her own saga. Popplio herself has had about, I'd say, 4 true episodes dedicated to her...yet this Eevee, who they've promoted so heavily, was best decided to go to one of the secondary characters who just wants to practice making bubbles outside of getting a lackluster education. It just seems like a waste. Nagisa didn't even know Bouncy bubble to fully cement its affinity with the ocean. I fear it'll be nothing more than a gag with barely any development. Look at both Charjabug and Marowak-both have had once focus episode each since their respective captures. And that's not even counting the screen time Nagisa will have to potentially fight for with future captures down the line.
  • On the plus side, Lana catching Eevee was unexpectedly refreshing. She's a Water specialist, yet caught a non-Water type...who can become a Water type down the road. I think I recall Misty expressing a similar sentiment...but Lana actually did it. And she nicknamed at that! We don't have too many Trainers on screen who nickname one Pokemon but address another by the usual species' name. And, lastly, she caught it in a Dive Ball-furst time we've ever seen a Pokemon caught in one! I really liked that, and not just because it will be thematically fitting come its eventual evolution but because they've normalized a facet of game-play (acquiring Pokemon in random Poke Balls) that is rarely seen in the anime.
  • Pershie needs to be put in its place, like yesterday; it should be taken as seriously as Team Rocket. At this point, I would just attack on sight. I mean, Popplio can face down a ginormous Totem Wishiwashi but is paralyzed by fear from some chubby-faced cat?
  • Speaking of which, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss Team Rocket. Especially Mimikyu and Mareanie. They don't have to be in every episode but it feels like lately they've been pretty sporadic in appearance.
  • Popplio learning Surf is cute but, like Rowlet before it, I'd rather see it learn a differently typed move rather than yet another move of its type. Seriously, ever since Best Wishes they have made the heroes starter's move-sets as bland as watching paint dry. I'd love for Lana and Popplio and battle against an opponent with Water Absorb or Dry Skin :p

I don't like how passive Ashimari was in the episode. She should have been able to defeat Persian, instead of running away. She also did nothing against Skull gang till others came.
She attacked them, but because she wasn't with Lana, her attacks didn't do anything, as demonstrated when Ash and Pikachu then came in and wiped them out

It was nice to finally see Lana's father and another type of Poke Ball we haven't seen before. However, I honestly left this episode disappointed. While I absolutely adore Lana and love it whenever she gets development, I honestly think the Eevee should've gone to Ash instead of her. It fits him better personality-wise and type-wise it's the most fitting for him out of all the members of the group (since nobody in the group specializes in Normal types). I'm one of the 10 Pokemon fans in existence who doesn't like Eevee very much and all of the attention it's been getting these past two gens, but I still think it deserved something a little better, especially in the development department. Ash would also be the one who'd likely get the most creative with the starter Eevee's special moves and type variation. For Lana, in all honestly I wish her second Pokemon could've been water type. It's extremely disappointing to see the writers reject so many great Alolan water types (including Dewpider/Araquanid, her signature Pokemon) in favor of an annoyingly hyperactive Eevee that can't evolve... Finally, I just felt that the Popplio/Eevee friendship development was way too rushed. It would've been better if it played out over multiple episodes like Litten's arc did and the development of its' relationship with Ash.

Looking forward to next week at least and the two-parter! Guzzlord and Zeraora are here!

This episode was way better than the last, loved that Lana caught Eevee in a Dive Ball rather than a normal Poke Ball

Was great to see Lana's father reappear along with her mother and sisters
get exited when the talk about kyogre. they missed the chance to evolve poppli again.

Well, I guess that Lana was the one who got to keep Eevee after all.

Now, while I will admit that I am a little bit disappointed that Ash was denied an Eevee yet again, as well as another Pokémon in general, after being left with only three permanent Alolan Pokémon for so very long, I guess that it was a nice idea to give Lana a second Pokémon as well. That just leaves both Mallow and Lillie left to be given another Pokémon.
so, what pokemon would lillie and mallow reciebe? Tsareena is just evolved, but vulpix? besides, what about charjabug? i really thought that ash was going to get that eevee, besdies, i think that eevee is not wild, he had a trainer.

I really wanted ash to finally have these types of pokemon but still happy for lovely Lana to catch it
i thought that too. and the argument would be that they must return it to kanto, so they can connect to the new game.

@BigDocFan
Yeah, better than last one, which is kind of boring. Finally, we get to see Lana's father in person and even surprisingly saw the Eevee way before headed to Melemele Island with the additional of her lovely sea pup had learns Surf, which is a great thing.

Overall rating of this episode, I give it a B+
but lana said aquajet, and popplio did Surf, which can only be learned by TM.

Seems like I was right about my prediction of Popplio learning Surf.

It's always a pleasure to see variant Poké Balls in the anime.
but what about the TM? and why they dont evolve it?

Now that Lana caught an Eevee, that means Lana will evolve Eevee into a Vaporeon. And it was nice seeing Lana's father in-person in this episode instead of the flashback like he did in the first episode of the Necrozma arc.
i dont think eevee evolved, i think it will become ash new partner.
