I doubt a mission to cut vines and roots would last that long. Also take into fact that Ash's Pokemon were never released officially from their balls (see how Paul released his Pokemon).

Obviously, he is not doing if Officially, since that prevents other trainers from catching them, but they are still in the wild, meaning released.

Let's see which Pokemon are marked 'released', despite Ash never officially releasing them from their marked Pokeballs, on Bulbapedia along with their return chances.

  • Butterfree: Highly unlikely; released so he could start a family, would have migrated away and it's been too long.
  • Pidgeot: Highly unlikely; released to be the leader of a Pidg flock, rest of the reasons same as above.
  • Lapras: Never; Was never intended to stay. Ash caught Lapras to take care of her and return her to her herd, she even reappeared once and didn't rejoin him.
  • Greninja: Possible; Released so he could assist the Squishy and Z2 on their mission to cut down the toxic roots/vines, could return in the future once that mission is complete.
  • Gooda: Possible; Released because it wanted to stay at the marshlands, Ash could always call Keanan and ask if Goodra wants to return even if temporary, then send over its ball.
  • Poipole: Possible, won't stay though; Was never intended to stay and also caught to be taken care of so that they could return it once its homeworld was located, mission has been accomplished but we'll see what SM140 has in store.

Where are Buzzwole and Stakataka? They are released for the same reason as Poipole (And yes, they were official captures, despite being temporary, since the same goes for Poipole).
Greninja; Can return when the mission is complete..... so can Pidgeot (released to be the leader and protector of the flock), when another Pidgeotto evolves into a Pidgeot so it can lead the flock, meaning thats a non-argument at this point, since the same applies not only for Greninja and Pidgeot, but also for Goodra (Wooper evolves) and Lapras (A new leader for the Lapras Squad).

Buzzwole and Stakataka didn't spend several weeks in Ash's team like Poipole did, which is why they're classified as temporary captures while Poipole is an official one.

Pidgeot is not going to return. It's been too long and if it wanted to then it could have done so a long time back, since it was released on the outskirts of Pallet Town and knows where Ash lives.

Lapras isn't returning either. It's already returned once and Ash didn't take it back. Also, been too long.

/QUOTE]

They were caught for the Ultra Guardians so I wouldn't consider them or the others to be a part of anyone's team

They were only temporary. They never had any kind of connection to Ash beyond being momentarily caught by him.

So was Poipole, so your argument exactly is?

Even temporary captures are official captures (Since you can argue that every released mon is a temporary capture, since they leave at some point).

You're comparing a Pokemon that was in Ash's possession for days/weeks to Pokemon that Ash had for a few minutes at most. Apples =/= oranges.

Its not actually, since Despite having Poipole in his possession for days/weeks, it literally did nothing, so for all i care, it was already released beforehand and just followed Ash.

:bulbaFacepalm: They literally said Poipole loved being with Ash. It had a connection to him. Those other Ultra Beasts were caught only for a couple minutes of episode runtime. At most. They had zero connection with Ash, unlike Poipole.

Connection or not, that doesn't matter. Meloetta had a connection with Ash and followed him around without actual being capture (Proof that you don't need to be captured to follow someone around you have a connection with). If Buzzwole and Stakataka don't count as Official, neither does Poipole, since it literally did nothing (Just like Buzzwole and Stakataka, but unlike Lapras, who was also confirmed to be a temporary capture from the start).

:bulbaFacepalm:
Oh jeez, how can someone be so naive and dense? Haunter, Meloetta, Larvitar and Nebby did spend time with him but they weren't officially captured by a ball, hence not making it a registered capture. Poipole was.

Besides, the UBeasts were captured as a part of a mission by the entire squad regardless of who threw the ball, and not a personal capture like that of Poipole.

Poipole wasn't an personal capture either.

Well Bewear is confirmed to show up in SM142 so hopefully Team Rocket will be absent allowing us to enjoy a proper full battle without them making an appearance elsewhere

Tbh, I'd really rather this full battle not be the MR exhibition match. Feels kind of insulting that the finals were 3v3 (yes, minimum Pokemon limit and all, then the finals could have been 4v4), but an unofficial match will be a full one? Kind of downplays the huge significance of the Manalo finals and Ash's win there.

They didn't asspull Pokemon earlier, but now they do so with MR bringing a Lucario?
