Ghost Type Mass Outbreaks.jpeg
It's the spooky season, and Ghost types of all sorts are appearing this week all over Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: in Mass Outbreaks, in Tera Raids, and in a special Online Competition!

Mass Outbreaks!
Starting this Friday, October 27th, at Midnight (UTC) and ending Tuesday, October 31st, at 11:59pm (UTC), mass outbreaks of Drifloon, Phantump, Mimikyu, Greavard (little fellas, look at them) will be more likely to appear across both Paldea and Kitakami, the latter of which you can explore in the Teal Mask part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. These Pokémon are also more likely to have the Crafty Mark.

To participate in this mass outbreak event, players will need to download and install the latest update data; and to download the latest Poké Portal News. If players have connected their Nintendo Switch system to the internet while playing Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, this should happen automatically. Players can also manually download the Poké Portal News by selecting Poké Portal from the X menu, and then selecting Mystery Gift, and then Check Poké Portal News. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. This event also does not require the DLC, though future Mass Outbreak events may occur in areas exclusive to the DLC.

Tera Raids!

Also starting this Friday, October 27th, at Midnight (UTC) and ending Tuesday, October 31st, at 11:59pm (UTC) Mismagius with the Ghost Tera Type will be appearing more frequently in Tera Raid Battles. Winning these raids will reap some useful rewards, including lots of Rare Candy that you can use to level up your Pokémon. (Sadly, Pokémon do not level up with semisweet chocolate chips. I've tried. My Mimikyu likes the taste, though.)

To encounter these Mismagius in Tera Raid Battles, players will need to download the latest Poké Portal News. If players have connected their Nintendo Switch system to the internet while playing Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, this will happen automatically. Players can also manually download the Poké Portal News by selecting Poké Portal from the X menu, and then selecting Mystery Gift, and then Check Poké Portal News. After that, players will be able to start a Tera Raid Battle simply by walking up to and interacting with an appropriate Tera Crystal in-game. In the overworld, the Tera Crystals associated with these raids can be differentiated from other Tera Raid crystals by their aura, which is mostly clearly visible when looking at crystals on the map. While players can freely engage in local Tera Raid Battles with other players, a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to join up with other trainers online for Tera Raid Battles.

And Online Competitions, Oh My!
Finally, Trainers will be able to participate in the Trick Magic Online Competition, using just Pokémon of the Ghost type. Signups for this competition have now commenced, with the competition itself scheduled to commence on Friday, November 3rd, at Midnight (UTC), before concluding on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 11:59pm (UTC). Registration will remain open right up until the end of the competition, allowing people to jump in no matter how late they might be running to the Halloween Party.

The competition will consist of Single Battles using Pokémon with the Ghost type. A complete list of Eligible Pokémon can be found here.

A Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account are required to participate in this Online Competition. Entries will be limited to one per user per game version per Nintendo Switch console, and the following behavior may result in penalties, and restriction from future online competitions:
  • Use of unauthorized methods to alter game save data, use of Pokémon that have data altered via altering code, or Pokémon created through the use of altering code.
  • Significantly large number of disconnects during battle, from when your opponent has been decided to when the match results have been fully sent to the server (please ensure a stable connection environment when connecting to the internet).
  • Troubling behavior that could affect other participants or make others feel unpleasant.
  • Actions that would obstruct battles and operations, such as hacking.
  • Registering with incorrect information or impersonating another player.
  • Other actions that operation hosts determine to be inappropriate.

Whoooa! So many cute Ghost-type Pokémon! I'm so excited, I can't wait to meet them all! What's use of unauthorized methods to alter game save data?
