Only Leon using Dynamax would look one-sided, specially since they want to portray Leon as strong, and not just because he uses Dynamax. The point they’d want to drive home is how Galar uses Dynamax for spectacular battles, and Leon is undefeatable all things considered.

I’ll have to agree with @Sakuraa that it’s weird to have Leon battle Lance instead of his celebrity-dragon-specialist-rival, but this will all depend on what they do with it.

If this is a setup for Ash taking part in a Champions League, excellent. If Lance is there just because and only serves to hype up Leon and once again shit on our dinners with continuity bait, we got a problem.

Lance technically hasn't been in the main series anime for so long. But because he's portrayed as a major figure in so many other media (Generations, Origins, Masters, etc) it feels like he's the default for the term "Champion" for whatever involves Kanto or Gen1 - though funny enough, he became the champion in Gen2.

Many people think Ash will participate in the Pokemon World Championships. However, they ignore something that makes this pretty unlikely.

This is the final of the tournament, which means that there is still (likely) one year left for the next tournament.

I really doubt the anime is going to show that one year has passed and Ash should be 11 years old.

They could simply make no mention of the time/duration for the next tournament. Maybe Lance/Leon or anyone else will just tell him to participate in the "next tournament".

Yeah, they don't care about the passing of time. In addition to them mentioning days and months passing on occasions (i.e. when the Indigo League was "in two months"), in the Pikachu & Pichu short, Ash explicitly says it's been a whole year since he and Pikachu met.

But canonically, he's still 10.

I've been thinking about this episode a lot lately and now I can't help thinking it'll be totally messed up:

I bet you the match will either end in a draw without a winner or be postponed just like the recent Cynthia-Lance -event in Pokemon Masters or, which is most likely in my opinion, it'll be totally rushed and written badly given that it's only one episode for such an important event. And by written badly I mean that Leon guy will presumably be at a totally unfair advantage because the writers need to feature the new Gigantamax phenomenon at all costs and thus give him a Gigantamaxed Pokemon that no other champion had in the past, simply because it hadn't been introduced yet.

I'm starting to think that maybe it's even a good idea our greatest Champion Cynthia won't be in this because she just doesn't deserve such a mediocre battle/episode

Did you know that in the Spanish version of Sword and Shield Leon is called Lionel for Lionel Messi?

Trivias apart, as I said this is the most important episode of the series by far. This is the episode where Ash maybe finds what he is going to do. I'm really expecting this episode. It's the one that could make this series interesting...

I can't wait. Hopefully we'll be able to see Gigantamax Charizard and maybe even Hop.

You know, given the events of PM 2019 Episode 10, I'm wondering if this isn't going to be an episode that has a significant focus on Ash's
Dragonite

Given how many Gen 8 Pokemon we've seen and the focus they've got which is very little, I really hope that Leon will show off a Gen 8 Pokemon instead of Charizard, maybe leave it for another episode if he comes back in the future
