Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

No Fennekin. It was too soon for you to become furbait. :(

Fennekin was furbait from the very beginning :(

And froakies isn't?

Almost every pokemon is an anthropomorphised animal/plant/object to some degree, so I really don't understand the sense of these kinds of statements to begin with, or the fear/dislike associated with that aesthetic (but only aimed at certain pokemon, when many fit the definition). Through out art history we as human beings have been anthropomorphising things for a very very long time.

I agree. I've seen pornographic pictures of Ivysaur. IVYSAUR. A Pokémon that not only is on "all fours", but looks nothing... hm, attractive, like Teerunaa might look to some. So, I don't get why one would dislike Teerunaa because it is "furbait", since people draw shit fanart of almost every Pokémon in existence.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

It's the proportion. Anything people fawn over as kawaii, especially little furry things, is going to have the 34 far more prominently. And it gets old, as does people talking about how cute cartoons are as a whole.

Number of works currently on 34:
Fennekin - 189
Chespin - 92
Froakie - 63

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I don't buy that, so far in this forum alone Froakie's evo has been getting way more commentary on it's looks in that sense, whereas fennekins has been getting a bunch of "ew it's too feminine I don't like it"

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

And it's only going to go up with this new evo. An anthro fox can't help but up the count.

EDIT:

See, the thing is that those numbers are from a porn site. This is a Pokemon fan forum free from such vulgarity. Though if this was instead a forum full of furries...we'd have a very similar situation to those numbers mentioned.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

The fact of the matter is that all of them have porn associated with them, and on this website froakies evo is getting more salacious comments than fennikins, so why does froakie get a pass and fennikin doesn't?

My point is that as far as rule 34 goes they are both furry bait, most pokemon are. Yes, fennikin is going to be more popular, because within the anthro community most people prefer canids, felines, ect. That doesn't stop the fact that there are "furries" that prefer reptiles, fish, birds, and amphibians (and when I say furries I mean both in the general sense and the fetish sense).

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I like Chespin and Fenniken's first stage designs much more than Froakie's. But I like Fennekin and Froakie's second stages more than Chespin's.

Chespin's evo looks too much like Pignite to me. It's not terrible, but...meh.
Fennekin's is fine, but the black legs are kind weird looking.
Froakie's evo actually looks pretty cool and not as ugly as Froakie itself.

With consideration that they are both furbait Froakie-line probably gets a pass while Fennekin-line doesn't because Fennekin is just much more blatant. It's easier to find artwork of it depicted in such a manner because it is such an easy and obvious thing to create. It's very much easier, and a much more pleasant experience, to find awesome artwork of a Pokemon if it doesn't become associated with furries from the get go. You wanna find some bad Froakie stuff you usually have to dig for it.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I made a joke comment and now the thread is all???? I like to think I did the world a service.

Looking at Fennekin's evo, it isn't that feminine. (At least compared to, say, Gothorita and Kirlia.) I hope for a real gender-neutral final form, since the gag of a feminine/masculine Pokemon with a gender contradicting their appearance has been done so many times before. But if it does turn out to be really feminine, it would fit in well well on my all-girl team.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I really like the starter evos~

Fennekin's looks awesome. Even though I was hoping for it to be quadruped, I really like the sleek look they gave her and the black legs~ And lets not forget the stick in her tail. How is that gonna work if that does become a broom?

My little Toad Sage Froakie is really getting his ninja look on with his little mask and gloves. He's still lookin' real chill~

Chespin's looks like he became Grass Pignite, but I like him. I admit he isn't my favorite of the three, but look at him; he's still cute!

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

Froakie is actually really great in its evolved form. I'm still sticking with Fennekin for my first Y play through, but I think I'll switch from Chespin to Froakie now for X. It just looks sleek.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I want to see Chespin's evo from a different angle, or at least see its battle model. I can't tell if that hair on the top is a unibrow or not.

That angle did Chespin 2 no wonders. :( I think overall Chespin's evolution will get less hate after they show it's game sprite and how it looks in the anime.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I agree. I've seen pornographic pictures of Ivysaur. IVYSAUR.

Cause of vine whip. Can we all move away from the porn topic now? XD

Like I said before I'm definitely switching to Froakie for my starter, I love sleek and cool styles (Grovyle) and if it continues along that path it will likely be my favorite of this Gen. Originally was going with Fennekin, but its just not my... style? Don't have anything against more feminine appearances or anything, but I would have preferred it staying on all fours and being more gender neutral. I can see why some says its a pretty design though, and I agree that it will likely end up with a witch/warlock theme. Chespin's evo will grow on people once they see it in animation, which will probably do it more justice.

For secondary typing(s), I see a potential: Grass/Ground, Fire/Psychic, and pure Water. I still think the only reason why Froakie learns bounce is because its a frog rather than being a hint to something else.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

Yeah, Chespin's line is becoming more and more of a Grass/Rock or Grass/Ground. Yes, I know the rumors, but now we're at the second stage and it looks like a super bulky acorn thing.

Blatantly what? They're both anthros. (furry)

But I suspect when you say "furry" or "furries" you are referring specifically to the fetish part that some furries take part in. Which well, is rather unfair to the pokemon design (and the people who like anthro's but don't fetishize them).

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

Most starters aren't really gender neutral, they are more masculine than feminine-looking. No one ever complains about Blastoise, Feraligatr, Torterra, Swampert, Samurott, Emboar and some others looking manly, so I don't understand why Teerunaa should be more "gender neutral" instead of being one of the few feminine-looking starters. I'd say that the only starters that are somewhat neutral are Typhlosion, Blaziken, Serperior and arguably Infernape and Charizard.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I'm very curious as to what the English names are going to be. Any guesses anyone?

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I agree, gender-neutral starters are really hard to come by anyway (especially since opinion may change them either way) so it being more feminine is fine, especially if it's going for the witch theme some are hypothesizing.

I really want them to combine "vixen" and "hex" in a really awesome way for Teruna or something.

Re: Starter Discussion and Speculation

I read that Teerunaa is the "romanization" of Tailunar and quite like this name.

I doubt they will keep it, though, since they didn't keep Janovy and Jalorda, two names that are far better than Servine and Serperior.
