Subscriptions Question

We can subscribe to threads to keep track of them, great! though my question is, i saw that there is a column next to our subs that talks about "Notifications".

Now, when it asks you do i want to be emailed a notification instantly/daily/weekly, what does it mean by "email" specifically. Are we talking Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo/Aol, or are we talking PM's to our bulbagarden in-boxes?

To my knowledge, a notification is email. I used to get notified via email of new PMs and friendship requests.

oh so it literally means by email? poo, that's counter-productive for me since i rarely check my email..
