Sun and Moon Anime- 138 episodes?

I'm wondering if the next animé will switch the timeslot back to Thursday since the timeslot switch in Sun and Moon seems to have had a negative effect on both ratings and rankings.

Based on recent air dates:

SM121 - May 12, 2019
SM122 - May 19, 2019
SM123 - May 26, 2019
SM124 - June 2, 2019
SM125 - June 9, 2019
SM126 - June 16, 2019
SM127 - June 23, 2019
SM128 - June 30, 2019
SM129 - July 7, 2019
SM130 - July 14, 2019
SM131 - July 21, 2019
SM132 - July 28, 2019
SM133 - August 4, 2019
SM134 - August 11, 2019
SM135 - August 18, 2019
SM136 - August 25, 2019
SM137 - September 1, 2019
SM138 - September 8, 2019

If we get the same amount of breaks as XY, then:

SM138 - September 29, 2019

And then we'll get the new games and the anime in October or November.

There will definitely be two breaks due to the movie broadcast in July, but that only brings us to September 22 - over a month earlier than XYZ's last episode (not including the specials). I somehow doubt that the games will be released in October after a 3-year streak of November releases (that made sense due to Black Friday and Japan having an exam period in October), but we'll see. There may be another break.

An October release is quite unlikely. I don't think that they would release the games then when the announcement trailer just said late this year and October wouldn't be quite that late. That would pretty early in the fall, so I suspect we'll still get SM episodes through October.

Ohmori himself said that Sword & Shield are releasing in Winter.

No, because TV Tokyo said they don't give a crap. The anime is still selling the games and merchandise it's intended to sell.

BW was 143 episodes and XY 142 episodes, SM will probably end around 140 episodes.

They'd need a lot of specials to fill the time until November. More likely than not, 138 was just a guess.
I'm currently still standing behind the hypothesis that SM will end at 138. If the gap between SM138(?) and SwSh001 is bigger than the average generation transition, which seems like it will, the anime will probably make specials for Mamane, Kaki, Suiren, Lillie and Mao (and maybe even Kukui) each with Mamane's special being thinking of his future endeavours, Kaki's being farm-related, Suiren's being similar to Iris's, Lillie's being eventually finding her father alongside Gladion under the condition that their quest isn't resolved in the SM anime and Mao's being her Shaymin leaving emotionally under the condition that it doesn't happen in the SM anime.

Pokéani is barely good at bringing their characters to a conclusion.
Well, each of them needs a conclusion I reckon. Also, I think that their conclusions will briefly be made clear in SM's final episode with each of them saying in group for the final time what they're pursuing in order to strengthen the sentiment of SM's closure and that the specials will serve as a 'picturisation' of their conclusions. A (Pokémon) special's function is not bringing forward conclusions, it's a picturisation of conclusions that were made beforehand. Dawn's goal was put forward in DP's final episode followed by a special and Iris's in BW's semifinal episode followed by a special. Serena's conclusion was also put forward (XY138) so it's a mystery as to why her special isn't a thing (yet). Maybe she'll recieve an in-anime treatment like May.

If in SM 127 Magearna's revival does not require the quest to find back Mohn, I will refrain from the hypothesis that SM will end at 138. Also, Meltan will probably evolve after the League so that's another reason not to believe that SM will end at 138...

Just the fact that SwSh won't be released until November (Ohmori said "winter") is enough to disprove the theory.

Yes... but a long special run could've been an option with the big gang.

Hmm, I see that there won't be a break between 127 and 128. Yet another reason not to believe SM will end at 138.

I still don't understand why people are so set on this 138 episode theory. It's extremely unlikely that the games will come out in October. Since they said that the games would come out late this year and the past few main series games have come out in November, it's much more likely that Sword/Shield will come out sometime in November. It wouldn't be impossible for the games to come out in October instead, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I also can't really see them taking a break that long from airing new episodes. Having a couple of weeks off before a new series begins wouldn't be a huge stretch, but waiting more or less than a month just doesn't sound likely either. They'd probably want to keep airing new episodes until they're close to the start of the new series/release of the new generation. That would make it easier to give the anime more attention and promote the upcoming games at the same time.

And there's still the fact the games are announced for Winter, not fall, not holidays (which could include November), but just Winter.

This theory is dead. Ohmori said Winter. Winter doesn't start until December, so the number doesn't line up; we're going beyond 138 episodes.

Are we sure that they meant winter literally and not just 4th quarter of 2019? Because winter starts on December 21st, and it seems kinda unlikely to me that SuMo will last until then.
