The Starter Pokemon
5IfyDwD.png
Rowlet, Dartrix and Decidueye
Rowlet is the Grass starter in Sun and Moon. It can attack without making a sound! It flies silently through the skies, drawing near to its opponent without being noticed, and then lashing out with powerful kicks. It can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers. Its visual abilities are impressive. The darkness of night is no obstacle to Rowlet! It can twist its neck nearly 180° from front to back so it can see directly behind itself. It has a habit of turning its head in battle to face its Trainer and receive instructions.
Category: Grass Quill Pokemon
Type: Grass/Flying
Ability: Overgrow
Height: 1'00"
Weight: 3.3lbs
Known moves: Tackle, Growl, Leafage, Peck, Razor Leaf, Astonish, Pluck
Evolves into: Dartrix

Dartrix is extremely sensitive to other presences in the area and can detect opponents behind it and throw feathers to strike them without even seeing them. This Pokémon conceals sharp-bladed feathers inside its wings, showing astounding precision as it sends them flying in attack. And it goes beyond propelling its blade quills in simple straight lines—it can even bend these feathers to change their trajectories! Revealing a certain snobbiness in its personality, Dartrix cares a great deal about its appearance, grooming its feathers in every spare moment. In truth, it’s also a bit of a birdbrain, with a tendency to bungle things up. Once it makes a mistake, it sometimes gets into a desperate struggle to gloss over the situation and ends up making a bigger mess than ever. At times, this Pokémon feels so bothered by its dirty or ruffled feathers that it can’t focus on battle. When it loses its focus, it sometimes even retires from the battle on the spot! It’s up to each Trainer to help Dartrix overcome this troublesome stage. If this Pokémon is with a Trainer who helps it through, its strength will grow hugely!

Type: Grass/Flying
Ability: Overgrow
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 35.3lbs
Known moves: Tackle, Growl, Leafage, Peck, Razor Leaf, Astonish, Pluck, Energy Ball
Evolves from: Rowlet
Evolves into: Decidueye

Decidueye is able to move about while completely masking its presence from others. Once an opponent has lost sight of it, Decidueye seizes the chance to attack it unawares. In a tenth of a second, Decidueye plucks an arrow quill from within its wing and sends its hurtling toward its target. Its speed is astonishing, but not more so than its precise aim, which enables the arrow quill to pierce a target through and through from half a mile or more away! Decidueye usually acts very cool, but it can become terribly flustered in unexpected situations like a surprise attack. A skilled Decidueye can boast acrobatic curved shots. It seems some are also able to shoot arrows that reach up through the sky, only to come drilling down from above, piercing multiple targets one after another.

Litten, Torracat and Incineroar
Litten is the Fire starter in Sun and Moon. Logical but also passionate, Litten always remains coolheaded and doesn't show its emotions on the surface. Litten can attack with flaming hairballs! Its fur is rich in oils and immensely flammable. Litten grooms itself by licking its fur, and then uses the collected fur as fuel for fireball attacks! When the time comes for Litten to shed its old fur, it all burns up in a glorious blaze.
Category: Fire Cat Pokemon
Type: Fire
Ability: Blaze
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 9.5lbs
Known moves: Scratch, Ember, Fire Fang, Growl, Leer, Lick, Bite
Evolves into: Torracat

The bell-like object attached at the base of Torracat’s neck is a flame sac, an organ that can produce flames. Torracat’s emotions cause a rise in the organ’s temperature, and when the organ spits flames, it rings with the high, clear sound of a bell. Torracat attacks using the flames emitted from this bell. Torracat’s mane serves as an excellent sensory organ, and it can sense what’s going on around it—even in the dark! It can also detect the presence of hidden enemies. Torracat has a great love for battle and will attack so relentlessly that its opponents lose the will to fight. And yet it sometimes behaves like spoiled child in front of Trainers or Pokémon with whom it has built a relationship of trust. The cat punch that this Pokémon can dish out with its strong forelegs is extremely powerful. It can bend iron bars and knock out large men with a single blow!
Category: Fire Cat Pokemon
Type: Fire
Ability: Blaze
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 55.1lbs
Known moves: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Scratch, Ember, Fire Fang, Growl, Leer, Lick, Bite
Evolves from: Litten
Evolves into: Incineroar

As Incineroar's fighting spirit increases, the flames that it produces within its body burst from its navel and waistline. Since the flames somewhat resemble a championship belt, they’re known as its “flame belt,” and the Pokémon unleashes moves that use flames from it. In the heat of battle, Incineroar shows no concern for its opponents—and sometimes even launches attacks that strike the opposing Trainer! As a result, many tend to dislike this Pokémon and keep it at a distance. If a crowd watching it battle is pumped up, Incineroar’s fighting spirit will burn brighter. But a lackluster crowd can make it lose focus or fight shoddily. When it receives the admiration of young Pokémon and children, it may keep up its cold attitude on the outside, but in its heart of hearts, Incineroar is immensely happy. It loses the desire to fight when faced with a Pokémon that’s clearly weak or injured, and it sometimes gets taken advantage of as a result.

Popplio, Brionne and Primarina
Popplio is the Water starter in Sun and Moon. Popplio's swimming speed is known to exceed 25 mph. It's better at moving in the water than on land. Still, when it's on land, it takes advantage of the elasticity of its balloons to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps. Popplio can snort out balloons made of water! Watch it spin water balloons into a playful battle strategy! Both frivolous and hard-working, Popplio can easily get carried away—unleashing enough power in battle to make quite a spectacle! But Popplio’s determined spirit means it can usually be found practicing hard on its balloon skills.
Category: Sea Lion Pokemon
Type: Water
Ability: Torrent
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 16.5lbs
Known moves: Aqua Jet, Pound, Growl, Water Gun, Disarming Voice, Bubble Beam, Sing
Evolves into: Brionne

Brionne learns its dances by imitating the other members of its colony. It sometimes even learns dances from humans. This Pokémon is a hard worker and pours itself into its efforts until it has memorized each dance. As it dances, Brionne creates balloon after balloon. In battle, it first sends its opponent into disarray with its dancing, and then slaps its balloons into its target, causing the balloons to explode and deal damage. Brionne can dance in perfect time with others, even if they have only just met. On moonlit nights, you can sometimes see throngs of Brionne dancing as one, in perfect fluidity. Brionne always acts cheery and positive. Even when it’s feeling sad, this Pokémon doesn’t allow its sorrow to show. It’s said that Brionne will only reveal a sad expression to a Pokémon or Trainer to whom it has opened its heart completely.
Category: Pop Star Pokemon
Type: Water
Ability: Torrent
Height: 2'00"
Weight: 38.6lbs
Known moves: Pound, Growl, Water Gun, Disarming Voice, Bubble Beam, Sing, Aqua Jet
Evolves from: Popplio
Evolves into: Primarina

As it dances, Primarina releases balloons of water into the area around itself, moving them using the sound waves from its voice. The sight of moonlight reflecting off its glittering balloons creates a magical scene. Since Primarina controls its balloons using its voice, any injury to its throat can become a grave problem. Its greatest enemies are arid environments and the overuse of its voice during back-to-back battles. Among the balloons that Primarina releases, some explode when touched, while others do not. Primarina jump on the non-exploding balloons while they make sport of their opponents, and they use the exploding variety to trigger chained explosions! Primarina’s songs have many variations, and each one changes the motions of the balloons. It has been observed that songs are shared among Primarina living together, so different colonies end up knowing different songs.

Solgaleo
Solgaleo is the mascot of Pokemon Sun. Since ancient times, Solgaleo has been honored as an emissary of the sun. With its wings spread to absorb the surrounding light and glittering like a crescent moon, it resembles a beautiful night sky.

Other New Pokemon
6D1ZvgA.png
Grubbin, Charjabug and Vikavolt
Grubbin relies on its sturdy jaw as a weapon in battle and as a tool for burrowing through the earth. Grubbin loves electricity, which is why it can be found near power plants and substations. By wrapping tree branches in the sticky threads that it spews from its mouth, Grubbin can swing around like an actor on suspension wires!
Category: Larva Pokemon
Type: Bug
Ability: Swarm
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 9.7 lbs.
Known moves: String Shot
Evolves into: Charjabug

Charjabug stays perfectly still in preparation for Evolution, and often spends time with its body half-buried in the earth. Charjabug is able to store up electricity. It can store enough power to run a household for a whole day. The power it stores can be provided to other Pokémon, so it can also serve as a battery!
Category: Battery Pokemon
Type: Bug/Electric
Ability: Battery
Height: 1'08"
Weight: 23.1lbs
Known moves: String Shot, Spark, Crunch
Evolves from: Grubbin
Evolves into: Vikavolt

Vikavolt is like a fortress that zooms through the forest, firing a beam of electricity from its mouth. Its huge jaws control the electricity it blasts out. Vikavolt is adept at acrobatic flight maneuvers like tailspins and sharp turns. It can fly at high speeds even as it weaves its way through the complicated tangle of branches in the forest. Vikavolt clasps Charjabug with its legs and uses it as an extra battery. Even if a battle drags on, it can use the electric power from Charjabug to continue firing off powerful moves. When Vikavolt is engaged in a fierce aerial fight, it releases Charjabug to make itself lighter and increase its mobility.

Rockruff and Lycanroc (Midday form and Midnight form)
Rockruff has an excellent sense of smell, and once it has smelled an odor, it doesn’t forget it! There are tales of these Pokémon getting separated from their Trainers, then using the faintest traces of their scent to track them for days until they are reunited! Rockruff is a sociable Pokémon, but as it grows, its disposition gets wilder. If it begins to howl when the sun goes down, that is proof that it’s close to evolving. It’s said that it leaves its Trainer’s side to evolve and returns again when fully evolved. Rockruff stands bravely in battle, even when it’s taking damage. Although an opponent may be stronger than Rockruff, the Puppy Pokémon is so persistent, it keeps going until it outlasts its foe and gets the win! Rockruff greet others by rubbing the rocks around their necks against the other. This grating greeting is an expression of fondness, but a Trainer may find that love hurts.
Category: Puppy Pokemon
Type: Rock
Ability: Keen Eye or Vital Spirit
Height: 1'08"
Weight: 20.3lbs
Known moves: Bite, Howl, Sand-Attack, Rock Throw, Stealth Rock, Rock Tomb
Evolves into: Lycanroc Midday form (Sun) or Lycanroc Midnight form (Moon)

When Rockruff is bathed in profuse amounts of solar energy, it evolves into Midday Form Lycanroc. In the world of Pokémon Sun, Solgaleo’s influence causes Rockruff to evolve into this form. Lycanroc lives solo in mountains and deserts, not creating a pack. Each has its own territory, and they live without interfering with one another, which helps to avoid unnecessary fights. Lycanroc obeys its Trainer’s orders dutifully. In particular, if a Trainer accepted it during its more rebellious pre-Evolution period, Lycanroc will never ever betray that Trainer and will be the most loyal of partners. The Midday Form Lycanroc is known for speedy movements that leave its opponents bewildered. It dodges opponents’ strikes while attacking with the sharp rocks of its mane as it slips right past them.
Category: Wolf Pokemon
Type: Rock
Ability: Keen Eye or Sand Rush
Height: 2'07"
Weight: 55.1lbs
Known moves: Accelerock, Stone Edge, Bite, Howl, Sand-Attack, Rock Throw, Stealth Rock, Rock Tomb
Evolves from: Rockruff (Sun)

When Rockruff is bathed in an abundance of lunar energy, it evolves into Midnight Form Lycanroc. In the world of Pokémon Moon, Lunala’s influence causes Rockruff to evolve into this form. Midnight Form Lycanroc provokes its opponents by pressing in hard and inviting their attack. When an opponent falls for this tactic and attacks, Lycanroc counters with its forte: a single devastating blow that finishes off its foe! The stronger its opponent is, the more excited for battle Lycanroc becomes. It doesn’t mind getting hurt if it means victory in battle. Battles thrill it so much that its eyes glow. Contempt rises in this Pokémon for Trainers who give orders it doesn’t agree with or who try to force it to battle. On the other hand, it will feel a deep trust in a Trainer who can truly draw forth its power in battle.

Bounsweet, Steenee and Tsareena
Bounsweet is popular with Pokémon and people of the Alola region because it exudes a delicious smell from its entire body. Bounsweet’s scent has a calming effect on humans, so many people let them live inside their homes as a sort of air freshener. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes swallowed whole by Pokémon drawn to its aroma. When running away from other Pokémon, Bounsweet flees danger by skipping along the ground. Since its bouncy movements don’t convey to others that it’s actually in desperate flight, no one ever comes to its aid. When attacked by enemies, it drives them off by rotating the calyx on its head. The downside is how dizzy it gets afterward!
Category: Fruit Pokemon
Type: Grass
Ability: Leaf Guard or Oblivious
Height: 1'00"
Weight: 7.1lbs
Known moves: Magical Leaf, Sweet Scent
Evolves into: Steenee

The calyx on Steenee's head is harder than Bounsweet’s, so Steenee no longer worries about being stabbed by other Pokémon. As Bounsweet, this Pokémon may have preferred to run away from others, but now Steenee and other Pokémon can play together. Upon evolving, this Pokémon’s fragrance becomes even more delectable, but it also gains a tomboy-like personality. Living together with one is quite the ordeal. As it moves around, it spins its calyx, striking nearby objects, but Steenee couldn’t care less. Steenee unleashes combo moves using the calyx on its head and its hard legs. First it smacks opponents with the calyx on its head, and when the opponent flinches, it lands a whacking great kick. That usually does the trick!
Category: Fruit Pokemon
Type: Grass
Ability: Leaf Guard or Oblivious
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 18.1lbs
Known moves: Leaf Storm, Magical Leaf, Sweet Scent
Evolves from: Steenee
Evolves into: Tsareena

Tsareena has the nature of high-class nobility. Any Pokémon or human that approaches it with evil in mind will be punished forthwith. It even turns its fearsome glare upon its own Trainer if the two of them are not fully in sync, or if its Trainer orders it to use a move that will be ineffective. Only the strongest of Steenee are able to evolve. When this happens, the Steenee evolves with the blessing of other Steenee. It then uses its strength to protect the Bounsweet. Tsareena is a high-kicking virtuoso. It has honed these skills beyond the level it achieved as a Steenee, and it attacks with graceful movements. At the same time, its fragrance mesmerizes its opponents, dealing them a secondary attack. It’s said that this Pokémon loses its strength if touched on the crown-like protuberance on its head.
Category: Fruit Pokemon
Type: Grass
Ability: Leaf Guard or Queenly Majesty
Height: 3'11"
Weight: 47.2lbs
Known moves: Trop Kick, Magical Leaf, Sweet Scent, Leaf Storm
Evolves from: Steenee

Jangmo-o, Hakamo-o and Kommo-o
Jangmo-o has the pride of a warrior, although it remains humble about its capabilities. In its pursuit to become stronger, it never neglects its training. Because Jangmo-o uses the scales on its head for both offense and defense, it never turns its back to its enemies. Many Trainers see this behavior and take it as proof that Jangmo-o is a valiant Pokémon. Jangmo-o gather in harsh locales like canyons, where no other people or Pokémon are around, to live together as they train.
Category: Scaly Pokemon
Type: Dragon
Ability: Bulletproof or Soundproof
Height: 2'00"
Weight: 65.5lbs
Known moves: Tackle, Headbutt, Dragon Tail
Evolves into: Hakamo-o

When a Jangmo-o evolves into Hakamo-o, it breaks from its fellows and begins to live on its own to train itself. Wherever it can find Pokémon to battle against, it seems to appear. Hakamo-o dances before battle to show its strength, clanging its scales together to make them ring out. When this dance reaches its climax, Hakamo-o bellows a fierce war cry to challenge its opponent. Its scales make for fine armor, so Hakamo-o doesn’t worry about self-defense as it makes multitudes of strikes and overwhelms its opponents. But, as a result, its scales often become damaged and get torn off. They grow back immediately, so this does not cause Hakamo-o undue concern. In fact, it views the number of lost scales as proof of how ferociously it has fought, and it brandishes its bared arms in a boast of victory.
Category: Scaly Pokemon
Type: Dragon/Fighting
Ability: Bulletproof or Soundproof
Height: 3'11"
Weight: 103.6lbs
Known moves: Tackle, Headbutt, Dragon Tail, Sky Uppercut, Autotomize
Evolves from: Jangmo-o
Evolves into: Kommo-o

Hakamo-o evolves into the overwhelmingly powerful Kommo-o at the end of its harsh training. It returns to the land of its birth, where it watches over the Jangmo-o from a distance. There is a legend that says Kommo-o is covered in glittering scales in order to drive away a great darkness covering the world. The reason these Pokémon seek out battle is to gain the power needed to defeat this darkness. When it detects someone approaching, this Pokémon rings the scales on its tail to announce its presence. It has no desire to battle against weak Pokémon. Kommo-o’s greatest move is the uppercut. It swings its arm up from below in a punch of great skill and force, sending its foe flying into the sky. By raising its arms aloft, it can generate a force powerful enough to change the face of the surrounding landscape!
Category: Scaly Pokemon
Type: Dragon/Fighting
Ability: Bulletproof or Soundproof
Height: 5'03"
Weight: 172.4lbs
Known moves: Tackle/Headbutt, Dragon Tail, Sky Uppercut, Clanging Scales, Autotomize
Evolves from: Hakamo-o

Yungoos and Gumshoos
Yungoos is a big eater that is never satisfied. The majority of its long body is given over to its stomach, and its digestion is swift, so it’s always hungry. It has strong fangs, so it can crush and consume the hardest of objects. Each Yungoos chooses its own particular route for searching out prey and it stalks along this route searching for food until it’s exhausted, at which point it drops and sleeps wherever it may be. It’s thought that these Pokémon decide their routes based on safety, so that there’s no risk in falling asleep at any time. Yungoos is not a Pokémon that is native to the Alola region - it was brought to the region to help deal with the explosive population of a certain other Pokémon, and now Yungoos are commonly seen around the Alola region. Since this Pokémon is so common in the Alola region, it’s easy to catch one. But this Pokémon has a terrible temper when it’s hungry—and it demands a whopping amount of food.
Category: Loitering Pokémon
Type: Normal
Ability: Stakeout or Strong Jaw
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 13.2 lbs.
Known moves: Tackle, Sand-Attack, Leer, Mud-Slap, Bite
Evolves into: Gumshoos

Gumshoos’s method of targeting prey is the exact opposite of Yungoos’s strategy. While Yungoos prowls around, Gumshoos stakes out its prey’s usual routes and waits patiently for it to come by. Gumshoos has a tenacious personality, which is why it targets one prey for so long without wavering. But when the sun goes down, it runs low on stamina, falling asleep right on the spot. Gumshoos can withstand a great deal of hunger. It’s able to stay perfectly still while waiting for its prey, keeping watch without eating a thing.
Category: Stakeout Pokémon
Type: Normal
Ability: Stakeout or Strong Jaw
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 31.3 lbs.
Known moves: Tackle, Sand-Attack, Leer, Bite, Bide, Super Fang, Mud-Slap, Scary Face, Pursuit
Evolves from: Yungoos
Mudbray and Mudsdale
Mudbray could once be found all over the world, but it was overhunted and ended up on the verge of extinction. It’s said that the Alola region is the only place in the world where Mudbray can still be found in the wild. Mudbray boasts superhuman strength—a surprise, considering its small body. Mudbray can carry loads up to 50 times its own weight on its back or dragging behind it. Mudbray loves playing in the mud. It’s easy to live in harmony with this Pokémon, as long as you provide an environment where it can play in the mud. If it can’t frolic in the mire, however, Mudbray will become stressed and may stop listening to orders.
Category: Donkey Pokemon
Type: Ground
Ability: Own Tempo or Stamina
Height: 3'03"
Weight: 242.5lbs
Known moves: Mud-Slap, Magnitude
Evolves into: Mudsdale

Mudsdale is known for its powerful body as well as its emotional fortitude, which keeps it from being agitated by anything. It never cries out, no matter what kind of trouble it’s in, and it defeats its opponents with a single powerful blow. Its legs are coated in protective mud, and the weight of this coating increases the force of its kicks. One kick, and a car is a pile of scrap! Mudsdale’s running speed is not too swift, but it has excellent power and stamina. It can carry on for three days and three nights despite dragging loads of over 10 tons! When Mudsdale gallops in earnest, the power of each hoof-clop can dig out huge holes, even in asphalt. Mudsdale is forbidden to run on some of Alola’s public roads.

Fomantis and Lurantis
Fomantis is nocturnal, and it performs photosynthesis while it sleeps during the day by spreading out its leaves in all directions. Because of the danger of staying in the same location two days in a row, Fomantis begins its search for the next day’s spot as soon as the sun sets. For Fomantis, photosynthesis is not just a source of energy—it is a necessity to achieve the strength and brilliant coloration of its evolved form. Photosynthesis is precious to Fomantis, and it will fiercely attack those who get in the way of that process.
Category: Sickle Grass Pokemon
Type: Grass
Ability: Leaf Guard
Height: 1'00"
Weight: 3.3lbs
Known moves: Razor Leaf, Solar Beam
Evolves into: Lurantis

Lurantis draws opponents near to itself with its flowerlike appearance and aroma—and then it takes them down. It’s said to be the most gorgeous of all Grass-type Pokémon, due to its brilliant coloration and elegant moves. Lurantis’s appearance is maintained through detailed grooming. It will trust a Trainer who does a good job of caring for it, but it will apparently have a difficult time growing closer to a lazy Trainer.

Stufful and Bewear
Stufful’s cute appearance and movements—plus the fluffy feel of its fur—all combine to make it super popular! This Pokémon may have a small body, but its strength is extraordinary. Receiving one of its powerful hits without being prepared for it can bring down even well-trained Pokémon! The truth is that Stufful doesn’t really like being touched. It hates being hugged tightly and will flail its arms in protest.

When Bewear is acting in a friendly fashion, just swinging its arms around, you must never dare to approach it carelessly. It is acknowledged to be a dangerous Pokémon, even within the Alola region. You may see warning signs posted near places it resides. When Bewear grows fond of its Trainer, it may show that feeling in a fond embrace—but the force of that hug is tremendous! Trainers must teach these Pokémon how to restrain their strength when showing affection. Some wild Bewear use amazing martial-arts moves. Apparently the Pokémon learn these moves by watching Black Belts practicing when they go out to train in the woods. Bewear’s arms and legs are strong and highly developed. Its powerful spine enables it to lift objects weighing a ton or more. It loves to give crushing bear hugs—a tight hug from this Pokémon’s arms will split anything at all in two!

Sandygast and Palossand
A Sandygast emerges when the grudges of Pokémon and other creatures soak into the sand after they fall in battle. In essence, it’s a possessed lump of sand! If you heedlessly grab a Sandygast’s shovel, you’ll fall under the Pokémon’s control. A Sandygast uses its power to manipulate children into gathering sand to increase the size of its body. If a Sandygast loses its shovel, it may put up a tree branch, a flag, or another item in its place. These Sandygast are wanderers in search of their own shovels. The tunnel-like mouth of a Sandygast can suck the vitality from people and Pokémon. Apparently it’s a test of courage in the Alola region to put your hand in a Sandygast’s mouth.

Unlike Sandygast, if Palossand loses some of the sand from its body, it can restore itself on its own. When moving about in search of prey, the shovel on top of Palossand’s head revolves. It’s said that the shovel could be serving as some kind of radar. Palossand loves the vitality of Pokémon and drags small Pokémon into its body so it can steal their life force. Its sandy vortex swallows them up in a heartbeat! Pokémon dragged into Palossand leave traces of their ill will behind. It’s thought that this negative energy may be the starting point of new Sandygast...

Cutiefly and Ribombee
Cutiefly can detect the auras of living things, including people, Pokémon, and plants. They search out flowers by the color and brightness of their auras and then gather their nectar and pollen. When living creatures are excited, it seems that their auras resemble those of flowers in full bloom. As a result, these Pokémon tend to gather near people or Pokémon feeling particularly happy or sad. Cutiefly mostly live in the fields and meadows on the outskirts of cities, but they sometimes appear in towns and even inside buildings, drawn in by the emotions of the living beings of the community.

Ribombee may use puffs to strike their opponents during battles. Some of the Pollen Puffs that Ribombee make also have relaxing effects or can relieve tiredness. These are distributed around the Alola region as high-priced supplements. Ribombee hate getting rained on. They’re covered with fluffy hairs that hold the pollen they’ve gathered, and the rain makes them wet and dirty. Alolan people know that if Ribombee are busily visiting the fields of flowers, you can be sure that the fair weather will continue.

Minior
Minior are formed in the stratosphere and live by absorbing the detritus around them. When they’ve consumed a large quantity of particles, their bodies become heavy, and they fall toward the planet’s surface. Minior has a hard and heavy outer shell with a core inside it. The Meteor Pokémon seems to be made in such a way that if its shell breaks, it becomes lighter and can deal out quick attacks. When its shell breaks, the core in its center is revealed. You won’t know what color will appear until this happens! Minior’s core will change color depending on the particular color of the debris it has absorbed. Its pastel coloration has a cute look, so this Pokémon is often used as a design motif for clothing and accessories.

Some of these signals have been identified as warning signals and greetings among allies. Pikipek trainers have grown to recognize them as well. These Pokémon drill holes in trees and store food in the holes, they also like small, glittering objects and will tuck them away in their food stores, too. It’s often said, "Something lost, something missed, check inside the Pikipek nest." Pikipek will attack distant opponents by zipping seeds at them. These shots have enough strength to embed the seeds in tree trunks. Pikipek was first glimpsed in the Sun and Moon announcement trailer in February 2016.

With this reservoir of electrical energy, Togedemaru is able to release powerful Electric-type attacks! Covering its body is a pattern of fur with strands like needles. That means that Togedamaru can roll itself up, and presto—it's a ball of prickles! Some skilled Trainers have developed the strategy of getting other Pokémon to unleash Electric-type attacks on Togedemaru, which absorbs their power to use in a response attack! On days when lightning strikes, you can sometimes see Togedemaru gather and bristle up their needles, waiting to be struck by lightning.

They say if you take a small amount of the saliva remaining after it eats leaves, water the saliva down, and drink it, you’ll be able to sleep well. Komala clings to a log pillow that its parents have given to it. Once it has grasped this log, it almost never releases it. If it does lose hold of its log, the Pokémon will be unable to sleep well and will thrash about wildly. Apparently it will sometimes cling to the arm of a Trainer it trusts. The ever-sleeping Komala’s expression sometimes changes, as if has awareness of its surroundings and the talking of people nearby. But it appears that these changes in expression are actually just a result of the dreams it’s experiencing.

Perhaps as a result, it’s sometimes found clinging to tall people or to the walls of buildings! If you try to remove one against its will, you’ll be met with a sound punch. Crabrawler’s favorite food is Berries. It punches the trunks of trees to give the branches a good shake and knock any ripe Berries to the ground so it can feast! Many Crabrawler may gather around a tree, but only the one that emerges victorious in battle against all the others receives the privilege of eating the ripe Berries. Crabrawler uses its claws to protect its face and belly while getting in close to an opponent to throw punches. Its punches are powerful enough to split tree trunks! People in the Alola region are convinced that you must never try to peek beneath its covering. Mimikyu’s health fails when it’s bathed in the rays of the sun, so it prefers to stick to dark places. It’s rumored that the reason it covers itself with a cloth is to avoid sunlight. The rising popularity of Pikachu-styled merchandise around 20 years ago is the reason that Mimikyu makes itself look like Pikachu. In fact, this Pokémon is dreadfully lonely, and it thought it would be able to make friends with humans if only it looked like Pikachu. In order to resemble Pikachu, this Pokémon makes patterns that look like eyes and a mouth appear on a regular scrap of cloth.

Pyukumuku are considered unappealing to tourists due to their appearance and their lifestyle. Part-time work chucking Pyukumuku back into the sea is available at tourist beaches. But no matter how far they’re thrown, Pyukumuku will always return to the same spot. Once a Pyukumuku finds a place it likes, it won’t budge from it. If someone moves it away, back it comes to the same spot. If it runs out of food to eat in that spot, it’ll stay there—and starve. The people of Alola found this so pitiful that they developed a tradition of chucking Pyukumuku back into the food-rich sea whenever they come across any thin-bellied Pyukumuku. Pyukumuku are covered with a slippery, viscous fluid that has a moisturizing effect. Pyukumuku can stay on land for a week without drying out. The people of Alola use this fluid for skincare products. Pyukumuku hate to have their spikes and mouths touched, and if you step on one, it will hurl out its fist-like inner organs to strike at you.

Passimian live in troops of 20 to 30 individuals, all following a leader. This leader will take 10 of the individuals in the best condition to search for food. The troop’s teamwork is strong, and the boss of each troop decides what mark members will wear on their arms to distinguish the troops. The boss puts the troop members through training to improve their coordination with one another and their skill in handling Berries. Apparently this training is so hard that some Passimian end up running away. Lobbing Berries at foes is how Passimian attack. They sometimes work in coordination with others, passing Berries back and forth to bewilder their opponents. Passimian don’t just pitch hard Berries at opponents, either—they also have a technique that uses soft Berries to obscure their opponent’s ability to see. Passimian wants its Trainer to have the qualities of a leader as well. It watches a Trainer’s form closely when he or she throws Poké Balls, and will not listen to the orders of a Trainer with poor form. Passimian is exclusive to Pokemon Sun.

Allegedly, there have been sightings of Oranguru using Poké Balls! The fan-like objects held by Oranguru are handmade by the Oranguru themselves. In the Alola region, lifeguards let Bruxish remain in their area to prevent dangerous Water-type Pokémon from gathering there. Oricorio - Baile, Pom-Pom, Sensu and P'au Styles
Oricorio changes its form by sipping the nectar of certain flowers. Since it has four different forms—the same as the number of islands in Alola—it would seem that different Oricorio live on each of the islands.
  • The Baile Style Oricorio is very passionate, and power fills its body when it dances. It sends downy fluff flying during its intense dances. By igniting this fluff, it can unleash a fiery dance attack.
  • The Pom-Pom Style Oricorio is very friendly toward people, and it uses dancing to encourage Trainers who are feeling glum. When it dances, its feathers are charged with static electricity. It can attack with these charged feathers, and sometimes it unleashes a powerful electric shock.
  • The Sensu Style Oricorio is quiet and collected. By means of its dance, it gathers the spirits drifting about in an area and borrows their power to fight. People who migrated from Kanto feel a great liking for this Pokémon because its dance reminds them of their homeland.
  • The Pa’u Style Oricorio acts at its own pace, which sometimes makes it difficult to deal with. It sharpens its spirited moves through dance, which increases its psychic power. It’s said that this dance expresses its gratitude to the guardian deity Pokémon.

Type: Null and Silvally
This Pokémon wearing a mask has been dubbed “Null,” meaning nothing. The shapes of its front and hind legs are clearly different. The reason is that Type: Null was constructed to synthesize the strengths of various Pokémon, enabling it to adapt to any situation. The mask fitted to Type: Null’s head is a piece of equipment designed to control its latent powers. It’s extremely heavy, so it also serves to hinder Type: Null’s agility. To complete a certain mission, there was need of a Pokémon powerful enough to rival those Pokémon often spoken of in mythology.

Once released from that heavy mask, the Pokémon’s speed increases substantially. Freed of the restraining effects of its mask, Silvally’s senses are heightened, and it reverts to its natural temperament. It has a wild nature, but it will obey a Trainer that it trusts. And to protect that Trainer from danger, it will put its own life on the line. Silvally is said to have been created to oppose a threat... By inserting exclusive items into the drive on Silvally’s head, its RKS System can be activated, causing Silvally’s somatic cells to mutate and glow. Cosmog is very curious and shows no fear of people or Pokémon. If you treat it with any consideration at all, it will take an immediate liking to you. Tapu Lele
There is a legend which says that long ago Tapu Lele once brought an end to war between the islands of Alola by scattering its scales and soothing the tired warriors. Tapu Lele scatters glowing scales that physically affect others—providing stimulation to their bodies and healing their illnesses or injuries. But these scales can be dangerous as well, because a body can’t withstand the changes brought about by contact with too many scales at the same time. It will scatter its scales over humans and Pokémon for its own enjoyment; while it is innocent in one sense, there is also cruelty in the way it casually brings others to ruin. If Tapu Lele doesn’t have much energy stored in its shell, it may lack the strength to seize victory in a head-on battle. With this in mind, it tends to prioritize not losing a battle over actually beating a foe, and it’s skilled at strategies such as inflicting status conditions on opponents.

This can come in handy in battle! This stolid Pokémon is not very active. People’s opinions differ on whether it’s as docile as it seems, or if the reason it doesn’t move much can be chalked up to simple laziness. Tapu Bulu does not like unnecessary battles or frightening other Pokémon. Because of this, it makes a loud ringing noise with its tail to alert those nearby of its presence. Although Tapu Bulu may not like to start battles, it shows no mercy when dealing with evildoers. It’s said that when thieves once broke into its ruins, it punished them by swinging trees around like massive clubs.

Tapu Fini
Tapu Fini is able to create a special water that purifies both mind and body. But it requires that supplicants wishing to obtain the purifying water demonstrate the strength to withstand the tapu’s fog. Many humans have tried to withstand Tapu Fini’s fogs in pursuit of its purifying water. Among them were some with evil intentions, which may be the reason for Tapu Fini’s sense of disgust and lack of interest in appearing to people. Tapu Fini is able to attack by manipulating water. Since it hates to risk harm to itself during battle, it prefers to create a thick fog that puts opponents in a trance and leads them to destroy themselves. Tapu Fini’s expression remains listless even when it’s unleashing moves. Some people say that it might look this way because using its moves is so exhausting.

Alola Forms
Some Pokémon have adapted to the distinctive microclimates of the Alola region, taking on different forms than they have in other regions. These Pokémon are called regional variants. Taking root in the Alola region, they live like native Pokémon. Regional variant Pokémon can have different appearances and types, and their ways of living can also differ from that of the forms previously known.

Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales
It is said that Vulpix came to the Alola region together with humans, but the Fox Pokémon moved to the snowy mountain peaks to avoid the normal habitats of other Pokémon, and thus it ended up taking on this form. These Alolan Vulpix live on high mountains that remain covered in snow year-round. They live in small packs of two to five individuals, helping one another survive. Alolan Vulpix can freeze anything solid by expelling breath at a temperature of −58 degrees Fahrenheit (−50° C) from its mouth. It doesn’t fare well in the heat, but when the temperature gets too high, it produces ice from its tail to lower the surrounding temperature.

But the frequent eruptions of nearby volcanoes drove the Sandshrew to abandon the desert and migrate to snowy mountains, where they took on this form. Sandshrew’s body changed to adapt to the harsh environment of the snowy mountains. The Alolan Sandshrew has a shell of ice covering its skin, which is like hard steel. It excels defensively, but it lacks flexibility and can’t curl its body into a ball like a Ground-type Sandshrew can. Its heavy weight makes the Alolan Sandshrew slower than a normal Sandshrew, but the claws on its hands and feet allow it to move across ice without slipping. When it wants to move quickly, it uses its stomach to slide across the ice like a curling rock.

Type: Ice/Steel
Ability: Snow Cloak
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 88.2lbs
Known moves: Ice Ball
Evolves into: Alolan Sandslash

The Alolan Sandshrew of the snowy mountains evolve into Alolan Sandslash with spiny backs that are covered in ice. Thanks to their icy coating, these spines are large and sharp. Alolan Sandslash hide themselves in the snow when strong enemies appear, leaving only their needles exposed and ready for business. The weight of the ice that covers its body makes these Alolan Sandslash heavier than normal Sandslash, and this causes them to be slower. Yet in snow fields and on ice, they move by creating a path with their claws, and so they’re able to move with swiftness. The sprays of snow kicked up by Alolan Sandslash’s movements are so beautiful that many photographers head for the snowy peaks to capture the moment. However, Sandslash live deep in the mountains, and there is great danger of becoming stranded, so it’s forbidden to climb the mountains without permission.

Alolan Rattata and Raticate
Unlike ordinary Rattata, urban areas are Alolan Rattata’s main habitat. They are nocturnal and live in nests of several dozen. Alolan Rattata have an excellent aptitude for sniffing out delicious fresh foods in Alola. They pay no attention to foods that aren’t fresh. Alolan Raticate serve as their boss.

Known moves: Bite, Focus Energy, Super Fang
Evolves into: Alolan Raticate

Because urban areas are their main habitat, their diet is higher in calories than ordinary Raticate. As a result, they have become hefty. Alolan Raticate prefers to eat only fresh fruits and high-class ingredients. There are rumors that a certain top-notch restaurant takes advantage of Alolan Raticate’s taste buds by bringing it along when choosing ingredients to buy, and having it taste test new dishes. Alolan Raticate continually stockpile huge amounts of food in their nests. They mostly prefer to send out Alolan Rattata to gather food while they themselves stay home in their nests and just eat.

Alolan Grimer and Alolan Muk
When the population of the Alola region increased, dealing with their garbage became a serious problem. As a solution, Grimer were imported from other regions. They fed primarily on garbage, so their body composition changed—as did their form. What appear to be teeth in this Pokémon’s mouth are in fact residual toxins from the garbage it eats, which have hardened and crystallized. No method has been discovered to break down these crystals. Direct contact with them presents a danger. Alolan Grimer is always eating garbage, but its constant hunger will cause it to begin eating other manufactured objects if it runs out of garbage to feed on. There are more than a hundred Alolan Grimer in Alola’s garbage-processing plants, and all of the garbage produced in the Alola region is taken for use as their food.

Type: Poison/Dark
Ability: Poison Touch or Gluttony
Height: 2'04"
Weight: 92.6lbs
Known moves: Poison Fang
Evolves into: Alolan Muk

Alolan Muk eats whatever is in reach without pausing, and if it feels the sharp pangs of hunger, it runs amuck. It’s thought that its voracious appetite stems from an inability to maintain its energy levels without a constant influx of toxins. Toxins have accumulated in Alolan Muk’s body from its steady diet of various waste products and manufactured materials. This accumulation has brought about a chemical change, producing a new kind of toxin. Alolan Muk has the same poisonous crystals as Alolan Grimer, but they’re not limited to its mouth—they extend from all over the surface of its body. Alolan Muk uses them to attack, just like other Pokémon use their fangs or claws. And these highly toxic crystals are easily knocked loose, making them extraordinarily dangerous! The Grimer and Muk in the Alola region produce and store their toxins within their bodies. So, unlike the Grimer and Muk in other regions, you won’t detect any unpleasant aromas when you draw near one.

Alolan Meowth and Alolan Persian
Meowth is a Pokémon that did not originally live in the Alola region. They were sent to the royal line as an offering from another region, and only a select few could have them as partners. The Meowth in Alola are distinct for their cunning and their great pride. Two things they really hate—a wound to their pride and dirt on their coins. If either one happens, they fly into hysterics! It’s said that the Meowth that were offered to the royal family lived a life of luxury and pampering, which led them to have a selfish and prideful attitude. This caused Meowth’s form to change. The once-rare Alolan Meowth became feral when the monarchy was destroyed, and they have now become regular Pokémon, seen as commonly in the Alola region as elsewhere.
Category: Scratch Cat Pokemon
Type: Dark
Ability: Pickup or Technician
Height: 1'04"
Weight: 9.3lbs
Known moves: Pay Day, Bite, Fake Out, Taunt
Evolves into: Alolan Persian

The round face of Alolan Persian is a symbol of the rich Alola region, and it is held to be a Pokémon of great beauty. It is such a distinctive Pokémon of the Alola region that all Persian are well protected, and strict inspections are required before tourists can be permitted to take one back to their home region. Persian is highly intelligent, with an even higher opinion of itself. In general, it looks down on everything other than itself. It doesn’t tend to grow attached to its Trainer, either, so it’s a difficult Pokémon to have as a partner in battle. Its exquisite coat shines with the glow of high quality and enchants both humans and Pokémon. For this reason, it is a very popular Pokémon in the Alola region. It usually puts on a refined act, but once a battle begins, it will indulge in the most underhanded of tactics, including surprise attacks, trickery, and even foul play. Yet its haughty personality causes it to underestimate its opponents, and it’s often taken in by their counterattacks.

Alolan Marowak
The Marowak in the Alola region take bones and light both ends on fire by rubbing them against their foreheads. Then they spin the bones around! Marowak’s rarity and its fearsome appearance when it dances with its bone led the people of Alola to dub it a conjurer and regard it with fear. There are many Grass-type Pokémon—Marowak’s natural enemies—in the Alola region. This makes Alola a harsh environment for Cubone and Marowak. As a result, they live in close union with their partners. It’s said that their great care for their partners allowed them to gain something like a sixth sense and resulted in their changed form. The Alolan Marowak proves skilled at an attack in which it waves its bone and releases a ball of flame. The fireballs are not that powerful, but they tirelessly pursue the foe!

Alolan Exeggutor
The environment of the Alola region, where strong sunlight pours down all year round, brought about this change in Exeggutor’s form. The people of Alola boast that the Alolan Exeggutor is the true form of Exeggutor. Unlike other Exeggutor, the Alolan Exeggutor has a fourth head—on its tail! This fourth head controls the tail independently and can take on opponents to the rear that can’t be reached by the main heads’ attacks. This Pokémon excels at whipping its long neck like a lash to attack with its hard heads. But that neck can sometimes become a weakness...

Alolan Raichu
The Raichu in Alola have two types—Electric and Psychic—and they are able to wield psychic power. What’s more, they can gather their psychic power in their tails and then ride on them to float in the air! Even Pokémon researchers don’t know why Raichu’s form changed in the Alola region. The people of Alola seem unconcerned by the question. Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes! Raichu has electric sacs on its cheeks, and rubbing them causes a sweet aroma to be released. The mechanism behind this is not clear, but it’s thought to be connected to the psychic power that Alolan Raichu possess.

Zygarde Cell, Zygarde Core, Zygarde 10% and Zygarde Complete

Zygarde Cell is the stage that has been identified as the single Cells that make up Zygarde. Cells do not possess any will or thought processes. They're found scattered throughout the region. Since they can't use any moves, researchers question whether they can even be called Pokémon!

Zygarde Core is little more than a part of the Pokémon's brain. Unlike the Cells, the Cores are self-aware and can communicate with Cells and other Cores via telepathy. When a change occurs in the local region's ecosystem, Cores have been known to take action.

Zygarde 10% is the forme that the Zygarde Core takes when it gathers 10% of the Cells nearby. Capable of traveling over 60 mph (100 km/h), it defeats enemies with its sharp fangs and its incredible speed. When an emergency occurs, this form can take action separately from Zygarde 50% Forme, which comprises its main body. It has just a single Core performing the functions of its brain, so it can only maintain this form for a short period of time.
Category: Order Pokemon
Type: Dragon/Ground
Ability: Power Construct and Aura Break

Weight: 79.3lbs
New moves: Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves

Zygarde 50% was released in XY but now also has the new Power Construct ability alongside its previous ability Aura Break.
New moves: Thousand Arrows, Thousand Waves

Zygarde Complete is the perfect forme that Zygarde takes when the Core gathers 100% of the Cells. When the ecosystem is under threat, and the Core concludes that the 50% Forme will be unable to deal with it, the Core takes on the Complete Forme. Its power is said to be greater than that of the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal! Zygarde’s completed form is specialized for battle, enabling Zygarde to fight with its full power and fulfill its duty of protecting the Pokémon ecosystem. Its wings and tail each have their own Core. Each Core serves as a brain and can make decisions and act independently.

Ash-Greninja
Ash-Greninja has powered up thanks to the strength of its bonds with Ash. This is the form Greninja takes when it has gained new power due to the miraculous occurrence known as the bond phenomenon. This can be brought on by the bonds between people and Pokémon. It seems that it has only known to have occurred once—several hundred years ago. Ash-Greninja's leg strength has been enhanced compared to an ordinary Greninja, making it difficult to see because of the speed at which it can move. It takes its enemies out in a flash! It becomes able to make giant Water Shurikens on its back, and it can throw them in rapid succession.

The foundation’s goal is to care for Pokémon that have been hurt. It seems that the main character will also be able to visit Aether Paradise during the adventure.

The Island Challenge
PhNpL8s.pngg
The island challenge is an adventurous rite that involves traveling through each of the four islands and overcoming the trials in store on each. The challenge is made up of Island Trials, Totem Pokemon and kahuna battles.
  • Island Trials: This part of the island challenges are not limited to battling and take a variety of forms, such as finding items or completing tests of knowledge. They are lead by Trial Captains. We know of five Trial Captains so far:
    • Mallow is a Grass specialist in the Lush Jungle on Akala Island.
    • Lana is a Water specialist.
    • Kiawe is a Fire specialist.
    • Sophocles is an Electric specialist.
    • Ilima is a Normal specialist at Verdant Cave on Melemele Island.
  • Totem Pokemon: At the end of each trial, a Pokémon known as a Totem Pokémon will be waiting as a boss. They are stronger than regular versions of their species and can call for allies to help in SOS battles.
    • In Pokemon Sun, Gumshoos is a Totem Pokemon at the Verdant Cave trial grounds on Melemele Island. It gains an aura which increases its Defence and calls a Yungoos ally to aid it.
    • In Pokemon Moon, Alolan Raticate is the Totem Pokemon at Verdant Cave and summons ally Alolan Rattata instead. It also gains an aura which increases its Def.
    • Lurantis is a Totem Pokemon in the Lush Jungle trial grounds on Akala Island.
    • Wishiwashi is a Totem Pokemon in the Water trial on the island.
  • Grand Trials: The final part of the challenge is to battle the Kahuna of the island. If you succeed in defeating the Kahuna you will be allowed to move onto the next island.
    • Hala is the Kahuna of the first island, Melemele. He uses three Pokemon, one of which is a Crabrawler.
    • Olivia is the kahuna of the second island, Akala. She uses three Pokemon, two of which are Nosepass and Lycanroc. She seems to specialize in Rock-types.
Pokemon League
O6DrzgU.png
In the regions that have served as the setting for your adventures in the Pokémon series so far, the ultimate stage for battle has always been a place called the Pokémon League. However, in the Alola region, the setting of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, there is no Pokémon League yet—but it seems that there are plans to construct one on the peak of a certain mountain. After the growth you achieve through completing the island challenge, will the day come when you also take on the Pokémon League to become the strongest Pokémon Trainer?

Main Characters
vB7swOS.png
These are the player characters in Sun and Moon. You can customise your gender and appearance. The story begins right after your character has moved to the Alola region. No sooner have you arrived than your adventures begin to unfold, and you'll meet many people and Pokémon as you grow and learn.

Important Characters
kRrB0Qv.png
Hau is a Pokémon-loving young boy with a big appetite! He's the same age as your character. When you move to the Alola region, he makes friends with you right away. He has a real weakness for malasada, a famous treat in the Alola region, and he is always in search of malasada shops. He is a big-hearted boy who really loves Pokémon.

Lillie is a mysterious girl who assists the professor. This young girl is about the same age as your character, and she's working as Professor Kukui’s assistant for personal reasons. She's not fond of making Pokémon fight in battles, but she loves reading and has devoured many books. Lillie will play an important role in the story.

Professor Kukui is the Alola region's dependable Pokémon professor. He lives near your home and looks out for you. He's passionate about his research into Pokémon moves and has sometimes taken direct hits from Pokémon when there was something to be learned from it. Sporting a white lab coat slung casually over his bare torso, he shows off his own unique style.

Trial Captains
vrdBFhW.png
Each trial has a trial captain, whose role is to provide guidance to trial-goers. All of the captains are Trainers who undertook trials in their own island challenge a few years earlier.
  • Mallow is an expert with Grass-type Pokémon. She loves cooking, but it seems that sometimes her taste is a bit particular. She is at the Lush Jungle trial grounds on Akala Island.
  • Lana is an expert with Water-type Pokémon. She is dedicated to her family and is a reliable older sister who watches over her younger sisters.
  • Sophocles specializes in Electric-type Pokémon and is good with mechanics and has invented various machines.
  • Kiawe's expertise is in Fire-type Pokémon. Together with his Marowak, he studies the traditional dances that have been passed down in the Alola region.
  • Ilima is an expert in Normal-type Pokémon. He graduated from the Trainers’ School and is a hero to the students of that school. He is at the Verdant Cave trial grounds on Melemele Island.

Island Kahunas
ijg1JBM.png
Each of Alola’s four islands has a leader, called the island kahuna, who governs the island. Kahunas are chosen by the Pokémon known as guardian deities, which are also found on each island.
  • Hala is the kahuna of Melemele Island, where you have just moved to, and is also your rival Hau’s grandfather. His skill is renowned in the Alola region. He gives you your first partner Pokémon and expects great things from you. He uses three Pokemon, one of which is a Crabrawler.
  • Olivia is the kahuna of Akala Island, the second island you visit on your island challenge. Her skill is extraordinary, as can only be expected from someone chosen to serve as kahuna at such a young age. Yet she still insists that she is just a normal girl. She sees to specialize in Rock-type Pokemon, using three Pokemon, two of which are known - Nosepass and Lycanroc.

Team Skull
XWjKZEl.png
In the Alola region, a group of ruffians known as Team Skull causes a lot of trouble. They steal other people’s Pokémon, mess up the trial sites, and delight in all kinds of evil deeds.
  • Guzma is the boss of Team Skull who holds these ruffians together. Guzma pours on the attacks, battling without mercy. He certainly does seem strong, but he claims to be one of those who “never could become captains.” He seems to have a bone to pick with Professor Kukui, as well.
  • Plumeria is considered the big sister of Team Skull. She’s a tough lady who keeps Team Skull in line and working together—in the same way a strict older sister would. She seems to care for the Grunts who are below her in the pecking order, and she’s not one to let it go if someone’s given them a walloping.
  • Both male and female Team Skull Grunts wear matching black Skull Tanks. And these uniforms aren’t even provided for them—all Grunts have to buy their own!
  • Gladion is a young man that lends his strength to Team Skull as an enforcer. He places a high value on being strong in Pokémon battles. His partner Pokémon is the mysterious Type: Null.
Aether Foundation
xzsRtqD.png
The Aether Foundation works in the Alola region. The foundation’s goal is to care for Pokémon that have been hurt. The Aether Foundation has constructed an artificial island called Aether Paradise. There, they not only provide shelter for Pokémon, but also conduct various research projects.
  • The lovely Lusamine functions as the Aether Foundation’s president.
  • The Aether Foundation branch chief Faba sports green sunglasses. They’re his signature accessory! He seems very proud of his position as branch chief.
  • Wicke is the assistant branch chief of Aether Paradise and has a caring personality, so she’s loved by all the Aether Foundation employees.
  • The employees of the Aether Foundation shelter and care for Pokémon. Their uniforms appear to depend on which division they belong to.

Ultra Beasts
gewRdBB.png
In the Alola region, rumors are flying about mysterious creatures known as Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts possess mighty powers and could pose a threat to humans and Pokémon, so they are feared. It appears that the Aether Foundation is also conducting research on these Ultra Beasts. According to rumor, multiple Ultra Beasts exist, each of them called by a code name.
  • UB-01’s body is composed of a glass-like substance. However, it’s constantly changing shapes, never settling on one. While evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions. It’s said that, for some reason, its movements resemble those of a young girl.
  • The Ultra Beast known as UB-02 Absorption appears in Pokémon Sun, and the extent of its strength is unknown. Its entire body is covered with bulging, powerful muscles. The full force of a punch powered by these muscles would be off the charts! Its distinctively long mouth is said to be harder than diamonds. Could the Ultra Beast also use it to attack?
  • The Ultra Beast with the codename UB-02 Beauty appears in Pokémon Moon. What kind of power does it possess? Its narrow, graceful legs allow it to accelerate with such explosive speed that people claim it can dodge lightning! It is said that any Pokémon that sees UB-02 Beauty, regardless of its own gender, will become infatuated with it and lose the will to battle. The exact reason for this reaction—whether it's an unidentified pheromone exuded by UB-02 Beauty or a hypnotic effect induced by its appearance—has not been determined.

Other Characters
F7vdN09.png
  • Samson Oak does research on the regional variants that have taken root in the Alola region. He’s a cousin of the Professor Oak—the famous authority on Pokémon research in the Kanto region. The two could practically be twins!
  • Mohn appears to run and help with Poke Pelago.
Returning Characters
7MF55do.png
  • Dexio and Sina will show up as you progress through your adventure. These two appeared in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y as the professor’s assistants. They’ll give you an item called a Zygarde Cube and ask you to collect Zygarde Cores and Zygarde Cells during your adventure in the Alola region.

The Rotom Pokedex
KIMx4Mm.png
This special Pokedex is called the Rotom Pokedex and will be inhabited by Rotom, giving it a personality of its own.
  • Your character receives this from Professor Kukui to support you in your travels.
  • The Rotom Pokédex shows your current location and your next destination, and it also gives you advice on where to go next, based on the conversations you have with others!
  • After capturing a Pokemon and adding it to your Pokedex, Rotom will appear and show you the percentage % for the dex you have.
  • A feature known as the Poké Finder is loaded into the Rotom Pokedex and allows you to take pictures of Pokémon you find. When you use the Poké Finder in certain photo spots scattered throughout the Alola region, you can take pictures of Pokémon. The pictures you take will be evaluated, and as you take better pictures, more features—like the ability to zoom in—become available.

Z-Moves
9aLfX28.png
Z-Moves are when the Trainer and Pokémon’s wishes resonate with each other, and both release their full power together—the result is the explosive force of a Z-Move!
  • All Pokémon can use Z-Moves
  • There is a Z-Move and Z-Crystal for each type.
  • They can only be used once per battle
  • They require the trainer to wear a Z-Ring with a Z-Crystal
  • Two requirements of the Pokemon are necessary to use Z-Moves: a Pokémon must learn a move of the same type as a Z-Crystal, and it must be holding the corresponding Z-Crystal.
  • So far the regular Z-moves known are:
  • Some Pokemon have special exclusive Z-Moves and these require their own special Z-Crystal
    • Snorlax has Pulverizing Pancake usable due to a Snorlium Z. Snorlium Z will be available through an event when the games release.
    • Alolan Raichu has Stoked Sparksurfer.
    • Pikachu has Catastropika
    • Eevee has Extreme Evoboost. It raises Eevee's Atk, Def, Sp.Atk, Sp.Def and Speed by 2 stages.
    • The four Tapu Pokemon (Koko, Lele, Bulu and Fini) all share the same exclusive Z-Move: Guardian of Alola. It reduces the target's HP by 75% of its current HP.
Battle Tree
BUhgkHa.png
Somewhere in the Alola region, you’ll find the Battle Tree: a place where those Trainers who have completed their island challenge—or who are strong enough to have done so—battle one another.
  • All of the Trainers you can encounter at the Battle Tree are strong. It seems you might even encounter two battle prodigies from the Kanto region... Red and Blue!
  • At the Battle Tree, you can scout an opponent you’ve won against so they can partner with you in future battles. You may even be able to scout some familiar faces... like Cynthia and Wally!
Battle Royal
frbn14R.png
Battle Royal is a new battle type introduced in Sun and Moon
  • It's four player free-for-all battles with some survival aspects
  • Four players take part and bring six Pokemon, they then choose three of those Pokemon to use in the battle.
  • The battle ends when one player has lost all three of their Pokemon.
  • The winning placements are decided by who has the most number of Pokemon left and/or also taking into account the highest HP, as you can see in the lower right image with the 1, 2, 3, 4 rankings
Festival Plaza
L18oh3T.png
Communication features such as battling and trading are all gathered together in Festival Plaza, a place where players from all around the world can meet.
  • Players who are online either local or Wi-Fi will meet in the Plaza. There you can use a variety of features with them, such as trading or battling.
  • You can show other players around the Festival.
  • Inside the central Plaza building you can connect to the Global Link and change the theme of your Plaza.
  • Festival Coins are the currency in Festival Plaza. There are goody shops where you can get deals on items, bouncy houses for Pokémon to train in, and dye houses where you can dye your clothes new colors.
  • The rank of your Festival Plaza increases based on the number of Festival Coins you gather. As its rank goes up, you’ll receive rewards and the things that you can do in Festival Plaza will also increase.
  • Missions can be done by teaming up with other players, either through local wireless or over the internet with Wi-Fi. Global missions will also be held which everyone can join in with.
QR Scanning

With the QR Scanner:
  • Scan in a QR Code and check the information about the Pokémon that corresponds to it
  • Scanning in special code patterns can register Pokémon of the region to find out where they live
  • Scan in the code for a Pokémon that you haven’t yet caught and you can check its habitat and find it
  • Display the code patterns for Pokémon you have caught in your own Pokédex. You can share these codes with friends
  • Magearna is going to be available through a special QR code
  • You can scan QR codes of rental teams, these are teams that other players have caught/hatched and trained. When you scan the code it will allow you to use the team in online battles.
Battle User Interface Changes
2Vgw8ft.png
Sun and Moon introduce a variety of additions to the UI in battle
  • Moves in battle will have their effectiveness against your current opponent displayed. (See far left image.) This requires you to have battled the Pokemon species at least once previously, however. The first time encountering a Pokemon won't show this.
  • The middle image displays the main battle screen, clicking the + icon shown next to the sprite (in the above image it's next to Yungoos) will take you to the final image.
  • This final image allows you to see stat buffs or drops that are currently active in the battle on the Pokemon you select, indicated by the maximum allowed each way (six +/-). It also can explain the Pokemon's ability, as you can see Torrent listed on Popplio with the "I" information button next it.

SOS Battles are battles where a Pokemon can call on allies for help. They will usually be seen in Totem Pokemon battles, where the Pokemon is a stronger version of its species, but can happen outside of those in regular battles too.

Added languages
g3NtWL8.png
Chinese will be added as a playable language in both traditional and simplified options.

Bank update
ljOYRnC.png
Pokemon Bank will receive an update
  • The update is scheduled to happen January 2017.
  • The update will allow Pokemon from the Gen 1 Virtual Console games to be transferred to Bank and then onto Sun and Moon using the PokeTransporter.
  • Pokemon from ORAS and XY will also be able to be transferred to Sun and Moon through Bank after January, however they will not be able to be transferred back.
  • A new Pokedex feature will be added to Bank with the update. With this, it will check every game save you connect to Bank and read the Pokemon you've caught, allowing you to keep track of which Pokemon you have or are missing across all your games much easier.

Trainer Customisation
yUInrth.png
Character customisation is returning.
  • Hair colour and style has more available options for both players. The colour choice is more varied too, allowing options such as pink or purple.
  • Skin colour is still an option with four choices now available, rather than three in XY.
  • Eye colour is changeable with lenses again, similarly to hair there's more choices available than last time, with purple, yellow and more being shown.
  • Hats appear to be removable for the first time in a Pokemon game.
  • Glasses and sunglasses are new inclusions that are wearable on your face (rather than head) now.
  • Vests/tank tops, sandals and shorts seem to be new additions to the selection available, suited for the warmer region.
  • You can now dye certain clothes, so it's easier to get a certain colour or theme you'd like. Dying clothes costs Festival Coins.
  • There's quite a few Pokemon themed clothes again: Alolan Exeggutor shirt, Pyukumuku hat, Alolan Marowak shirt, surfing Pikachu vest, Luvdisc top etc.
  • Lipstick seems to be an option for the female trainer.
  • Different bags and backpacks are also available.
  • New items are bought with Festival Coins.
Poke Pelago
UUnhmEq.png
Poké Pelago is a feature for Pokémon that have been placed in your PC Boxes.
  • Poké Pelago consists of a variety of isles where Pokémon can go exploring, play on athletic equipment, and enjoy other fun activities.
  • The more Pokemon you send the more you can develop the facilities on your isles and develop new kinds of isles as well. As these isles are developed and increase in number, you’ll be able to do things like obtain items or raise your Pokémon.
  • Isle Abeens (top left) is an isle you can visit from the start, and here new Pokemon may sometimes choose to join your party. A Pokémon that displays a heart icon in the bubble above its head has taken a liking to you!
  • Isle Aphun (top right) is an isle which must develop, but here you may be able to obtain valuable items such as evolution stones.
  • Isle Evelup (bottom left) is an isle where you can leave Pokemon for training. Here you can create drinks which increases certain stats.
  • Bottom right island is currently unnamed, but seems to be a berry planting island.
Poke Ride
xEOPkMt.png
Poké Ride is a feature where Pokémon help people get to places they wouldn’t be able to reach by using human strength alone. These Pokémon don’t join your team, but you can call on them anytime to receive their help. So far we've seen:
  • Tauros: Allows you to charge and break rocks
  • Mudsdale: Allows you to move over rough terrain
  • Stoutland: Appears to sniff something out/follow a trail
  • Sharpedo Jet: Can break rocks in the water and moves faster than Lapras
  • Lapras Paddle: Moves slower than Sharpedo and allows you fish
  • Charizard Glide: Allows you to fly on it, it's unclear the exact use this has right now

Poke Refresh
hrGRk0e.png
Pokemon Refresh is the new and improved Pokemon Amie.
  • It includes new tools: hairdryer, brush, towel, comb and medicinal swab.
  • Poke Puffs are replaced with Poke Beans that you feed them.
  • There is a medicinal swab that can cure status, such as poisoning or paralysis, on your Pokemon
  • It seems you can switch Pokemon while inside the feature itself
  • The background now changes to match the location you're in

Version Differences
mDTzPtq.png
Like all main game pairs before, Sun and Moon have differences between the games. This time it comes in the forms of exclusive Pokemon, encounters and even the time of day in the game.
  • Time of day differs in each game. In Pokemon Sun, your game will work to the time of your 3DS. However in Pokemon Moon, time will be 12 hours different from your 3DS, meaning if you play during real life daytime, your Pokemon Moon game will be night.
  • Some Totem Pokemon differ by game too.
  • As has been the case since Generation I, version exclusive Pokemon are also present. For example Solgaleo and Passimian in Sun, with Lunala and o in Moon.
  • Some Ultra Beasts will also differ between versions. With Sun having UB-02 Absorption and Moon having UB-02 Beauty.
  • See the below table for a current list.

The Zygarde Cube
Ubgddos.png
Dexio and Sina appear again in Sun and Moon and give you an item called a Zygarde Cube and ask you to collect Zygarde Cores and Zygarde Cells during your adventure in the Alola region. Cores and Cells can be found all over Alola. Objects giving off light can be found in various locations and these are Zygarde Cores and Zygarde Cells. If you collect lots of Cores and Cells, the path to finding Zygarde may become clear.

Z-moves
plGe1Gm.png
