The crisis in Ukraine involving Crimea was one thing, but over in Taiwan a very similar situation is going on, and there are people saying that Taiwan is going to become the next Crimea. This is very disturbing when you realized how similar the countries are:
The countries have had weakening economies and both live in the shadow of a larger, more powerful neighbor (Russia for Ukraine/Crimea, China for Taiwan) and considered separated territory from the larger country that they want to reclaim. The leaders of both countries made trade deals with the larger country that the people opposed and started protests over and turn exceptionally violent. They say history repeats itself, and that definitely seems to be the case.
