Suppose Ash kept his Primeape

I always felt that Ash giving up his Primeape to Anthony at the end of the fighting tournament was a relatively bad idea. Ash had only had his Primeape for a relatively short time before it started to obey him. Which leads me to question how things would have panned out for him as a trainer had he continued train his Primeape and used him at certain points in the show. in Pokemon League tournaments, etc.

How do you think Ash would have done had he kept and still used his Primeape through Kanto, Orange Islands, etc?

That is why the original series is not really my liking. The writers kept writing off Ash's fully evolved pokemon that he gets when they know there is Oak's lab where they could have stayed at. I think Ash should have kept Primeape.

I'll be honest, a small part of me was wanting Ash to use Primeape against Tobias's Darkrai in order to throw off Dark Void with Vital Spirit.

I don't think he would've done too much, he probably would been Oaked right away, then I guess lose once or twice in the league, then never do anything again. I guess, a potential appearance in a Johto league battle too.

Heh that would've been pretty smart - though Ash would probably have had a "I didn't know that would happen!" moment.

It would've probly had an episode here and there where it helped out the most be it in a battle or random COTD situation. Probably would've had an amusing relationship/interaction with Charizard. And then just get Oak'd.

I think they messed up big time with sending away Primeape. Such an interesting character. Primeape would have been a great Pokemon to replace Butterfree with, but for some reason they didn't want Ash to have more than 5 Pokemon. I say the same thing about the Haunter they never wanted to give Ash officially. Imagine Ash actually having that guy throughout the rest of Kanto.
At least the writers remember that Ash officially still owns Primeape. It did appear in the Be and Arrow opening at Oak's lab. That scene only contained the Pokemon Ash still has, excluding his Unova Pokemon. Primeape was there, but no Butterfree, Pidgeot or Lapras. I haven't given up hope. I still want to believe that Primeape could return some day.

One can only wonder the actual behind the scenes reason for the decision to give up Primeape.

Plus, Who wouldn't love to have seen Ash with a badass tag team featuring Primeape and Hawlucha.

In this hypothetical situation, I'd say that Primeape would have stayed in Ash's active party in Kanto, stay behind for the Orange Islands, and return in Johto until being Oak'd to move Chikorita in when she was caught. There'd have been a chance for some interactions between it and Heracross in that window.

With Professor Oak used in Johto for the League and Orange Islands. Probably might not have seen Heracross.

Yeah, I think Primeape could have lasted until the Orange Island or Johto at the most. I'm not sure how different his Orange Island team would have been, but it could have been used in the battle against Drake at least. It might have gotten some attention in both the Indigo and Johto Leagues, although I don't know if that would have made it less likely for Ash to capture Heracross in that case. I don't know what kind of departure it would have had if they kept it through Johto since they didn't quite know how to free up a slot in Ash's team beyond releases for awhile. While I wasn't a huge fan of Primeape, they did get rid of it way too quickly. Ash could have used another evolved Pokemon on his Kanto team, especially when Charizard didn't listen to him until the Orange Islands, and that team always seemed to have an empty slot.

Yeah terrible decision. I always hated releases, i wish we got to see how Primeape would have progressed. I hated Pidgeot's release too.
