Sure, but it doesn't mean it isn't a possibility either (There is a higher chance of Lets Go Johto announcement than Gen 4 announcement based on what we saw).

How does that make it more likely just because of showing them on the freaking shelf in the first place?

There have been a lot more hints toward D/P remakes over time it's hard to even deny their possibility coming out this generation anymore.

First of, there's nothing saying the D/P remakes will be Gen 9 at all, secondly, there have been loads of hints, there's literally a Croagunk statue inside the protagonist's room!

With Let's Go Johto very likely to be next, it looks like the DP remakes will indeed be ninth generation games.

Except that Let's Go doesn't replace traditional remakes. So in actuality, DP remakes are entirely possible for Gen 8.

It happened before only because of a delay and the fact that Japan got the games a year before the rest of the world until BW2.

If anything prolonging generations are probably better in the long run since they got rid of the idea that only new Pokemon can be released in a new generation's flagship games. They can release new Pokemon in Go, in between games, and even DLC now. The reason why they were gungho about it before was because they needed to find a way to sell new Pokemon merchandise, and they've more or less solved it. Hell, even the anime isn't tied to the current gen, it's just a globetrotting adventure that could even continue past the new gen games. (and I'd honestly prefer it tbh).

New gen games are still very profitable (they make the most out of all main series games) so I expect the next one to happen sooner than later.

Merchandise makes them way more money, and new games were just a means of introducing new merchandise. So long as they have a way to pump out new Pokemon designs, they can do so however they want.

Except it wouldn't be as profitable as introducing a new gen with new starters, new legendaries, etc.

It could potentially save them money since they wouldn't have to invest in releasing a new set of games every year or two, and could push it out to a more healthier interval.
You also need to take into account that people are making these games. It's not healthy having to push GameFreak into the release cycle they were presented with for the last two gens, especially if you take into consideration the crunch and burnout rumors that were going around earlier this year.
