The Adoption Center

This thread is best viewed with the theme Rainbow Rocket.

Adopting a Pokémon from the Adoption Center!
Adopting a Pokémon is easy -- you just need to pay the adoption fee, fill out the adoption forms, and provide a Poké Ball to house it in. A trainer may adopt a Pokémon once per calendar month.

Dropping off a Pokémon at the Adoption Center!

A Pokémon may be dropped off at the Adoption Center at any time, free of charge. Pokémon dropped off here receive one of two types of care: Basic Care or Advanced Care. A Pokémon receiving Basic Care will be fed and watered, but otherwise left to its own devices. They will revert back to Lv. 01, forget any special moves they know, and may even return to a previous stage of evolution. A Pokémon receiving Advanced Care will continue to receive basic training by the staff. They will maintain their level and evolutionary stage, as well as any special moves they know.

Reclaiming a Pokémon frim the Adoption Center!

There is a one-week grace period following a drop off in which the original trainer may pay a flat fee of $10 to reclaim their Pokémon from the adoption center.

Rules & Regulations!

When adopting a Pokémon, here is a flat fee of $200, as well as additional fees per each special move ($20) and additional level ($10) the Pokémon has.
When adopting a Pokémon, please quote the list of available Pokémon. Please include only the Pokémon you are adopting in your quote.
When reclaiming a Pokémon, please quote the post in which you originally dropped the Pokémon off.

Pokémon Available for Adoption
Lv. 01 (M) Sunkern ($200)
No special moves.
Tate was tired. Sometimes it became hard to deal with other people -- a problematic thing, when one was in a position of authority. People came into the Adoption Center, not always happy, and it was a matter of responsibility that they be addressed with compassion by the manager, regardless of how frustrating or upsetting the interaction was. Sometimes compromises had to be made. Sometimes one had to own up to faults. Sometimes people hurt you, occasionally out of malice but more often out of short-sightedness. People have a hard time seeing past their own lives and feelings, and into those of the person they're interacting with.

After hours, in the pinks and blues of twilight, Tate would walk the dirt paths that ran between the enclosures. Back tight and chest aching, it was easy to feel all alone; like no one in the world had your back or was willing to cut you a break. Paperwork piled in bleak little mountains and voice mails waiting to be answered -- there was always something else waiting to suck another little bit of your soul away. But on the sprawling acreage, the office building standing in the distance like a mausoleum housing the spectres broken optimism, Tate could breathe.

One by one, the weary manager made the rounds, from the Ghost-type enclosure at the back of the lot, winding past the bank of trees that shielding the Psychic-types from prying eyes, beyond the wilting grass of the Poison-type enclosure, the half-devoured hunks of iron ore that littered the Steel-type enclosure, beyond the eerily clouded lot where the Dark-types lived, beyond the Dragon-types, the Ice-types, between the Faerie-type garden and the tall grass where the Bug-types were kept. The lights in the Electric-type enclosure were lit, humming with an electric buzz -- those had been donated by the nearby city during a period of urban renewal a few years back. The dirt in the Fighting-type enclosure was stomped flat by years of sparring; across the foot path, the Normal-types had a great view of the daily shows of strength. At this hour, though, no one was fighting -- the Timburr and Makuhita had settled down to meditate, relax, and rest.

The Flying-type enclosure was empty, which was probably for the best, as the Geodude next door weren't shy about kicking up pebbles in their play. Still, Tate missed watching the birds flit about, and though it was selfish to wish that a Pokémon might become homeless, Tate hoped that they might get an ave or two in to brighten the place. Down the way was a lot of fresh tilled Earth that Tate didn't bother to check on; there was no one inside.

The red brick that lined the enclosure beyond that -- flammability was always a concern when dealing with Fire-types -- was also barren. Not needing the space was inherently a good thing, but the sight made Tate's heart pang anyway. This was the only place the Johto native ever felt useful or needed or worthwhile; it was unbearable to have no purpose. From here there was a pond to one side, where the bright orange hues of Goldeen were just visible beneath the water. To the other side was a fenced-in area speckled with trees and bushes. This was the last enclosure to be checked before returning to the office, and here Tate lingered, desperate for a few more moments' reprieve. Three Pokémon called this tiny space home -- two Paras, and a Sunkern. Tate had watched the latter for months, more closely than many of the other Pokémon living in the Center. It reminded Tate of home, and the sprawling park just outside of Goldenrod. Tate used to sit on the benches of the park and study, a lifetime ago, before this place. On warm, sunny days, Sunkern could be seen gathering in the grass and soaking up the warm rays. Tate loved watching the Sunkern, and had been so certain for so long that someone would be coming in at any moment to whisk the delicate Seed Pokémon away to a better life.

No one ever came.

The sadness in Tate's chest was palpable. Unlocking the gate, the Johto native entered the enclosure. The Paras were huddled together under the root of the big tree, but the Sunkern... it had no one. It hid under the waning foliage of a bush from the dropping evening temperatures. Poikilothermic, it barely moved as the manager approached it, metabolism running on empty without the warmth of the sun.

"Hey," Tate murmured, distantly. Squatting, body weight resting against dirty heels, Tate tried to approach its level. It looked up through its drooping leaves, the winter threatening to rob it of them in the coming days. Tate didn't really know what to say; Tate never knew what to say. That was part of the problem. "I have a place -- it's nicer than this. Kind of. We have heating, anyway. Well-.... we have a Fire-type. She's pretty chill, though-... heh."

Tate laughed, tiredly, at the unintentional joke, and reached out to gently stroke the Sunkern's cool skin. "There's so many plants," Tate continued. "Too many plants. I've never been very good with them, and Paka and Maka are-... they used to live here with you, you know. You might recognize them."

Rambling. Tate was rambling. That's the only way Tate seemed to know how to communicate. The Sunkern didn't respond, but it also didn't pull away; it was as though it didn't know how to respond. Maybe it didn't want to get its hopes up. Maybe, after this long, it didn't care anymore.

"Let's go, yeah?" Tate expressed, picking the Grass-type up with both hands. It didn't resist. Maybe that was good enough. Maybe if Tate loved it hard enough, it would love Tate back. Maybe the pain would stop, with enough love.

"Let's go."

OOC: Paying $200, adopting this Lv. 01 (M) Sunkern, and placing him in a regular Poké Ball.

Ann looked excited as she entered the Adoption Center, and the reason why became rapidly evident: she had electric-types in tow. The intern working the front desk groaned; the appearance of one of the Kalapona Wai nurses always heralded work. Lots and lots of work. With a bounce in her step -- and an Emolga on her head -- Ann approached the counter.

"I've got a batch of cuties for you!" She announced. She was so thrilled. The staffer groaned.

"Where did these come from?" Questioned the intern, eyes following the bob of a gem as it peeked over the lip of the counter -- experience informed him that it was the tail of a Mareep.

"No clue," Ann replied, with far too casual a shrug. "The warden's office brought them in. But I heard these little cuties were wreaking havoc on their generator. Isn't that right?!"

Her voice tapered off to a coo as she reached up to pinch the cheek of the Emolga on her head. How she didn't immediately get shocked was a question only the gods could answer, but the rodent seemed to like the attention. The staffer rolled his eyes, and produced some paperwork for the young woman to fill out. She did so with a practiced efficiency, before sliding it back towards the internet. As he scanned the documents, Ann bent down and picked up a squirming Plusle, who had evidently been demanding attention.

"This says there's five being dropped off," The intern noted, with a tone of annoyance. Mareep, Plusle, Emolga... 3. As if reading his mind, Ann pointed at the floor, and the intern leaned over the counter to see a small, white Vulpix grooming its face with its front paws.

"That's only four," he muttered. He turned around to fetch a stapler for the intake paperwork, and screamed as something with bright yellow eyes manifested roughly two inches from his face -- a Misdreavus.

"Five," Ann chirped, struggling to contain her laughter.

Lv. 01 (F) A. Vulpix ($200)
No special moves.
Keith smiled and chuckled as he saw the scene before him. A visit to the Adoption Center with Sunny the Ninetales in tow, nothing unusual about that. What was unusual, however, was Sunny immediately getting sidetracked by one of the Pokémon- a Vulpix. But not Vulpix as Keith knew the species. He'd seen one or two like this before- Ice-type Vulpix from the Alola region. And one of them had made its way to the Adoption Center. And right now, was happily playing with Sunny.

Meowth gave Keith a look that seemed like he was trying to be exasperated, and might have succeeded were he not also smiling. "We's adoptin' her, ain't we?" he asked.

"Niiiine!" Sunny called to Meowth by way of an answer.

"That's a yes?" Keith asked. Meowth nodded to confirm this. Keith nodded back, producing a nice white Premier Ball from his backpack. "Hey, Vulpix," he said, offering her the ball. "Wanna come with us?"

"Vulpix? Vuuuuuul~!" the Alolan Vulpix cheered, running up to Keith and licking his face. Unlike with Sunny as a Vulpix, this Vulpix felt chilly, yet was very clearly not reflecting this chilliness in her personality. Chuckling, Keith tapped Vulpix with the ball, catching her instantly.

"I think we'll call her Ava," Keith smiled. "As in avalanche." At this, the Premier Ball burst open, and Ava reappeared to lick Keith's face once more. Chuckling, Keith took this as a yes, and it was with Ava in his arms that he went to go pay for her.

OOC: Adopting the female Alolan Vulpix, naming her Ava, putting her in Premier Ball #4 of 5, and declaring her Ability to be Snow Warning. Payment: 200

Lv. 01 (F) Emolga ($200)
No special moves.

A full year in Fizzytopia had come and gone, and if not for the Grand Festival, the Adoption Centre might have actually wondered if Alice was dead or something. It had been two full months since the 'Hopeful' young woman had set her feet through those doors, and it wasn't as if she hadn't shown interest in other Pokemon on her last visit. She had simply become caught up, especially with other Pokemon joining her huge family in that time. Not to mention that after the 'Snowdown', Alice had taken to somewhere warmer and fucking hibernated. Screw that. At least the frenzy had paid well enough that a $200 fee and Poke Ball didn't hurt at all.

She crossed the threshold in a lot less formality than the last time the owner or employees might have seen her. Instead of her flowing dress, Alice greeted the front desk in her jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt, the navy piece embellished with several bows near the chest. A backpack was slung over her shoulders, a fancy black leather item sent by one of her fans (she was still trying the idol thing, okay?) As usual, the blonde let them know that she already had a Pokemon in mind, hoping it was still there.

Grey ankle snow boots pitter-patted hastily towards an enclosure with two Emolga, blue eyes filling with delight to see that the flying mouse she had been tipped off about was present. “Hey there, pretty girl.” Alice cooed, admiring the female that was before her. As always she felt bad at the thought of leaving just one alone, but what could she do about that? Not much. “My name's Alice, and I'd love to take you home with me! I even have another electric mouse at home who'd love to play with you, although Peaches doesn't fly. There's plenty of space to do that, though! And I have a few with wings!” She carried on excitedly. If the Pokemon didn't seem at all eager, Alice wasn't fond of the idea of adopting them, so she always hoped for the better outcome one way or another. Many of the adoptees had accepted her now, some in odder ways than others, and that was fine, too. “What d'you think? I also have lots of food~~” She had to. Many of them had crazy appetites, Alice included.

Please, please don't shock me at least...!

Lv. 01 (M) Lotad ($200)
No special moves.
Mint once again scanned the list of Pokémon up for adoption listed in the paper. Not many newspapers offered delivery by Pelipper out to her remote island abode, but that didn't bother Mint too much. At first glance, nothing caught Mint's eye-the list hadn't changed much since she'd first began checking it out-but on a second glance, finally, something stood out. A Lotad. Mint wasn't sure why she was drawn to the idea, but the fact remained that she was. Whistling for Celeste to come join her, Mint eagerly got ready to fire up the boat and grabbed one of the five Poké Balls she'd been given to start out with. It was time for another little trip to the mainland to welcome another new face to the family.

Their first stop was New Fizz City. Having been here not too long ago for the New Year's ceremony, her first stop was the Bank to take out the $200 she would need to pay for the little critter. A few faces along the street managed to recognize her, and were delighted to hear that she would be taking in yet another new face.

Finally, as they approached the Adoption Center proper, Mint spied the telltale broad leaf floating in one of the pond enclosures nearest the entrance. Celeste hadn't stopped singing her usual sea shanty to herself since they'd landed. As the pair of Pokémon and Trainer ventured to the Lotad's enclosure, a small yellow bill and pair of beady eyes poked out of the water as if to say hello. As Mint squatted down to greet her new friend, it heard Celeste's singing and, as best as it could, tried to follow along. Mint couldn't help but smile at the adorable display. Finding the nearest attendant, she handed over the requisite cash.

"I think I'll take this little Kapp'n home!"

I hope I am doing the right thing...

As the dust swirled around, it soon centered onto a singular point at the field outside a familiar looking facility, although it didn't feel quite the way she remembered it. She recalled the day so many years ago when she was taken from this very building and joined a young boy and a Ralts to go on their fated journey. She could remember it just like it was yesterday, how the little Ralts hadn't trusted her at all, how the boy ignored her warnings and took the little Seedot with him...and now she was back here again, yet this time it felt different. It wasn't just the fact that her body would be reformed as a brand new Shiftry, more like...she wouldn't be sticking around to see the fate this Shiftry had in store for her. She would leave this new body, open to receive a different spirit within her, potentially someone with a completely different personality...whoever it was would probably not be given the same name she was given, and even if she was given the same name she would be a completely different Daphne. She hoped the voice telling her to do this was not someone who simply wanted her powers because if it was...no, Tornadus would never allow that! ...Would he? As the dust finally settled, the new body remaining lifeless for the moment, she was tempted to enter it herself, to return to her family, to return to the life she once knew...it was all happening so suddenly, so quickly, and it was so easy...no, she had to trust the voice, trust the winds, and give the new soul the chance to do whatever it was intending to do with this body. As she continued in her thoughts, the eyes opened in the new body...the life was complete. And Daphne...Daphne would from now on be a name in the winds, a name those who knew her by would know her as throughout their existences, however brief or eternal they may be.

Good luck...whoever you are...

Baby, it's cold outside.

Man, you're a regular sight, aren't you? Enough so that the manager waves at you as you pass through the center. You have someone in mind, which is just a little bit of a pity, if only for all the Pokemon you won't be taking home today. Oh well -- ou can only do so much, right?

Approaching the Flying-type enclosure, you're pleased to find that your objective remains: a cheeky looking female Emolga whose first reaction to your presence is to dive bomb you. She's just playing though, pulling back before she collides with your head and landing with a graceful motion on the white picket fence that marks the end of the world as she knows it. Sure, she -- like all the flying types -- could get the heck out of dodge if she wanted to, by why bother? She's fed well here, and there are no predators. It's a pretty sweet gig, in so far as being alone and trainerless go.

As you chatter away eagerly about how cool it is to live with you and all the friends you have and the food you hoard and other such things meant to bribe her into loving you -- hey, no judgement, we all do it -- she seems rather preoccupied, not with what you're saying, but rather with what you're wearing. Evidently you look warm, because before you can even finish your spiel, the rodent latches onto your arm and skitters her way onto your shoulder. That's a good sign, right? Well...

The next second, she's pulled back your shirt collar with tiny, clawed pawns and dove don the back of your blouse, a jarring sensation of fur and feet against your flesh. It tickles, and you wriggle involuntarily as she proceeds to scurry around your torso to the front of your blouse, before jamming her head through the front of your shirt collar to stare at you, face meer inches from yours. She could bit you, or shock you, or otherwise ruin your day at this point, but she doesn't bother. Content to leech your body heat, she disappears back down the front of your shirt.

Um...

The march back into the main building is an awkward one. The critter has evaded every attempt at you trying to remove her from your clothing -- mostly by hiding behind your back -- and you end up looking like a more stylish Quasimodo as you shuffle your way inside, a large bulge near your shoulder blades deforming your t-shirt. Honestly, even if you didn't want to adopt her at this point, you'd probably still require staff help to extricate her from your clothing. The intern on staff today is, mercifully, at least female, and wth a bit of a joint effort the two of you finally manage to peel the Emolga loose without unhooking anything essential.

Plopped down on the counter top, the Emolga seems truly scorned to have been prized from her heat-generating burrow, but the intern -- more likely out of pity for you, rather than the Pokemon -- produces a small, yellow blanket from one of the storer rooms while you work on the paperwork. By the time you finish, your new friend had wrapped herself in a fabric cocoon, and is staring at you expectantly. You're going to carry her right? I mean... it's cold outside.

Adoption of Lv. 01 (F) Emolga confirmed.

Adoption of Lv. 01 (M) Lotad confirmed.

It had been a quiet afternoon at Kalapona Wai, and quieter still at the Adoption Center. Tate had spent most of the day working on the center's dodgy internet connection, first by oneself and then with the help of a technician from the company who struggled to get any work done with the overbearing manager breathing down his neck. Beyond that, nothing of note really happened...

Until the Parks and Wildlife trucks pulled up outside.

They were unloading crates before staff could even get outside. Visitors to the neighboring museum watched the spectacle as it unfolded. A pickup truck carrying Mel -- one of the nurses from the neighboring Pokemon Center who specialized in Ghost-types -- roared its way up the dirt road, having gotten a frantic call from an intern who had stared into the eyes of a Spiritomb in kennel being unloaded. Tate stood, a look of pure horror plastered on the Johtonian's face as a clipboard full of forms was shoved into a reluctant hand. War flashbacks of the Adoption Center's grand reopening danced like so many nightmares behind glazed blue eyes.

Please, Celebi. Not again.
