The Adventure of Champions: Sinnoh

"Not good!" Valencia gasped. Psyduck was hit with the spores and started coughing.

In Route 204, a girl with long brown hair trains with her Lucario rigorously.

"Bone Rush!" She calls to the Pokémon, whom responds by clenching his paws together and spreading them apart again. A light, neon green light stretched between his two paws and formed the shape of a long bone. The Lucario leaped toward a nearby tree and ravaged its bark with swift, vicious slashes. With each hit, part of the bone chipped off and fell to Lucario's feet like green sparks.

"Excellent, now throw it in the air and use Metal Claw!" The girl ordered her second move. Lucario threw the bone into the air. It spiraled vertically and rose until it reached its peak, falling back down toward Lucario, who slashed it into small particles using a silvery Metal Claw attack.

"Tackle again!" Danny called out. This was his first real battle against another trainer and he was really getting into it. Although... I do hate to see that poor Psyduck in pain like that, he thought a bit begrudgingly. Buddy charged for Psyduck again while the Water type was distracted.

"Psyduck, stand by!" Valencia exclaimed. Psyduck stood still (and was still coughing a bit), waiting for Buddy to approach. Once Buddy was nearly right in front of Psyduck, Valencia smirked.

"Dodge to the side, then Scratch!"

"Great job, Lucario." The girl congratulated her Pokémon as she approached him with confidence. "Now let's work on that appeal." She nodded.

Lucario nodded back and clenched his paws once more, doing a few intricate kicks and flips which could be no other move that Sword Dance. "That's awesome! It looks really cool." The girl called to her Pokémon. "Now let's try Bone Rush!" She laughed in realization of the guaranteed awe from the judges at the Contest.

Lucario charged up another Bone Rush attack, although this time two bones were formed. He followed this up with another Sword Dance, giving him the strength and ability to dance intricately again with the bones, twirling them around in his paws and occasionally tossing them in the air, only to be caught again and worked fluidly back into his dance.

Buddy failed to hit his target and was raked by Psyduck's claws. He stumbled and fell to the ground. Danny knew that it wouldn't be good to continue, especially since he would be competing in just a couple of hours. "Good job, Buddy. That's enough for now." Buddy nodded and walked back to Danny. "Congrats Valencia! That was a great battle!" he called across the battlefield.

"¡Gracias!" Valencia replied, "You weren't bad, either. Now..."

She pulled out an Antidote and ran over to Psyduck.

"Here, one sip of this will stop the poison," she told her partner, letting him drink a small amount from the bottle.

"You're going to do great in this Contest!" The girl cheered for her Lucario. The Pokémon hurried faithfully back to his trainer and walked alongside her as she hurried toward Jubilife City. "Let's get there so we know we won't be late!"

At that moment, Aerith returned to her trainer's side and eagerly stared at him. Travis stood up and dusted the grass and dirt off him before he turned his attention to James.

"You wanna have a go?" He asked the other trainer, making a quick gesture to the battlefield.

James looked up at Travis and smiled with a nod. He stood up, looking almost as eager as Arthur appeared to be. "Time to see what we're both made off." He commented as Arthur eyed at his sparring partner with a fierce look.

"Get ready, Aerith," Travis said, noticing that she began to shy away from Arthur's gaze. The Deerling stomped her front feet on the ground and tried her best to return the look that the smaller penguin was giving her. First time battling another trainer... Let's see what he does. Travis thought as he waited for James to make the first move.

Arthur saw the Deerling's reaction as a challenge. With a smile, he followed his trainer towards the battlefield and took a stance for the friendly brawl.

With a quick skip, James stood on an end of the field. With a single look towards Travis he understood how it would go. A nod followed as James thought; a few seconds were all he needed before he smiled and ordered an attack, "Start of with Tackle!" was shouted loud enough to be heard. The penguin, with a lack of battle experience under his belt, did as what came with instinct: he rushed towards the deer, feeling a sudden rush throughout his body, beak to feet and back as he ran as fast as penguinly possible.

"Go to the side," Travis commanded in a steady voice. Aerith did as such with some grace, her body almost quivering from excitement and adrenaline.

"Use Growl," the Deerling let out a cute noise that made her seem less threatening.

"Were you watching our battle, Tess?" Danny asked his Pichu. Tess nodded happily. She had obviously enjoyed it and was eager to participate. "Great! Now we should watch Travis and James go. We can still learn from them even if they do gyms and we do contests because both need bonds between trainers and Pokémon and... all that stuff."

((Lol, just realized Piplup doesn't learn Tackle, but Pound. Shame on Goose.))

Arthur rushed towards Aerith, but with her evading the tackle, he went right pass her. Not only that, but the noise released from the Growl made him feel weaker, even more than before the Tackle's energy rush. With a slow stop Arthur stood a feet or two from Aerith.

"Hrm..." James was kept wondering; he knew not of the lack of moves at Arthur's arsenal, and the lack of command left Arthur in the open.

((I actually forgot about that as well. :p))

Travis allowed himself to have the faint trace of a smile as he noticed James' hesitation.

"Tackle," Aerith lowered her head and charged at Arthur as fast as she could. Travis remembered that he had forgotten to use the TM that he had bought earlier in the day, so Tackle was the only offensive move the Deerling knew.

As Valencia tended to her Psyduck's other injuries, she thought she heard a brief rustling in a nearby bush. She looked over at the bush for a few seconds, and then turned her attention back to Psyduck. Inside the bush, a brown, fluffy Pokémon was observing nervously.

At the sight of Aerith rushing towards his partner, James was struck with an idea. "Evade it, then use Tackle to hit her side!" Arthur saw what James planned to do, and did as so: He managed to jump to the side in the nick of time, just before beginning a Tackle of his own.

After applying a Super Potion to Psyduck, Valencia patted him on the head, causing him to sigh comfortably. In the bush, the Pokémon was smiling. It began to squee happily, quickly cutting itself off once it realized it was making noise. But it was too late; Valencia had already heard it, and was walking over to investigate.

"It came from right about...here," Valencia muttered as she approached the bush. She peeked inside, and found the Pokémon cowering. It was an Eevee.

".....ah! ¡Muy lindo!" Valencia squeed.

As soon as she Aerith saw Arthur leap out of the way, she skidded to a stop and let out a squeak of surprise. There was no time for her to dodge the Tackle that made its mark on the Deerling's side. She stumbled a few feet away but quickly regained her balance. Travis figured that Aerith could only take two or three more hits, even with the blows being softened by Growl's effect.

"Brace yourself, Aerith," Charging recklessly won't work, so I gotta think of something else, Travis thought as he desperately tried to came up with a plan.
