The Adventure of Champions: Sinnoh

A sharp twinge of nerves hit Danny again. That move looks so much better than our little Tackle... he thought. "We'll just give it all we got with our next moves!" Danny shouted, "Use Poisonpowder and Razor Leaf!" Buddy waved his leaf, causing a purple cloud of spores to appear. Then he launched a barrage of sharp, spinning leaves at the Lucario. The spinning caused the Poisonpowder to swirl around the leaves as they traveled toward the charging Pokemon.

"Bone Rush!" Carly ordered without a moment's hesitation. Her Lucario summoned two long bones at his paws, gaining the ability as a result of his enhanced power. Lucario twirled the two bones to redirect the leaves. All of the leaves were deflected, although some powder seeped through the barrier and surrounded Carly's Pokémon. To her advantage, however, Lucario is a Steel-type and therefore unaffected by the poison.

"Metal Claw!" The Coordinator cheered as she watched her Pokémon discard his bones in exchange for two powerful claws of shimmering silver. The poison traveled along with the attack, creating a purple and silver effect around Lucario's paws, while simultaneously managing to give the attack a Poison element.

"They stopped the attack so easily!?" Danny exclaimed as his Pokemon was knocked backward by Lucario's powerful claws. "Well then let's see how they handle our Energy Ball!" Green light condensed into a sphere in front of Buddy's mouth and he launched it at opponent with a twirl.

"Rip it to pieces!" Carly called, hoping to use Lucario's superior typing to block the attack without much damage.

Lucario used his claws to slice rapidly at the oncoming Energy Ball. He managed to shred the attack into a dense cloud of sparkles, although he had taken a slight amount of damage from the head-on approach.

Danny frantically looked at the scoreboard. There was still two minutes left and he had lost over half of his points, while the opponent still had most of hers. "It's not too late to turn this around," he told himself. But they've turned every move we've used against us, he thought. "Just stay positive... and stop talking to yourself in the middle of a battle," he said under his breath. "Ok, Buddy. We've gotta make sure they can't counter this one! Use Razor Leaf!" Buddy cheered in agreement and waved his leaf in a wide arc. The spinning leaves circled the entire stage and spiraled in toward Lucario from all sides. However, after launching the attack Buddy winced in pain and fell to his knees. "Wha- oh right, he must have gotten poisoned when Lucario hit with that Metal Claw," Danny said, really starting to panic.

"I didn't plan for this..." Carly thought as she saw the attack incoming from all angles.

"Use Bone Rush and Swords Dance!" Carly called in a moment of realization. Her Lucario summoned two powerful bones and spun them around while dancing in place, trusting his trainer. The leaves collided with the bones at some points, knocked out of their course. Just as often, however, leaves managed to slip through the barrier and land a hit on its target. Lucario sustained a bit of damage from the attack, although Carly's plan wasn't to completely deflect the move. She knew that the attack would be impossible to dodge or deflect in its entirety. Instead, she decided that by using this combination, she could at least strip the attack of its grace and precision, as well as minimize the damage taken by a small amount.

"Yeah! We really can turn this around!" Danny exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air. Buddy ignored the poison and stood up, ready to attack again. "Use another Energy Ball!" Buddy launched a second green sphere at Lucario, hoping to catch it off guard after the larger-scale attack.

Once the barrage of leaves had subsided, Carly was faced with another obstacle in the way of her victory. The Energy Ball raced toward her Pokémon, glistening beautifully in the light, although she planned to put an end to the graceful assault.

"Throw your bones!" She called. Lucario violently threw his bones from the previous attack directly at the Energy Ball, causing both attacks to explode between the two Pokémon and a mist of sparkles that ranged between different shades of green. "We got this." Carly snickered under her breath.

"I didn't expect that at all," Danny said, with a sharp breath of surprise. Don't freak out, it's not over yet, he thought. "Tackle!" Buddy desperately launched his body toward the opponent, still trying to look as graceful as possible for points.

Carly looked up at the clock and noticed that the battle was merely seconds from ending. "Jump." She called calmly.

Lucario jumped high above the attack, using his superior strength as a Fighting-type to propel himself far up. Chikorita's Tackle could not reach Lucario. The buzzer rang and revealed the winner before the Pokémon had even reached the ground.

Danny didn't have to look at the scoreboard to know who had won. He had been hopelessly outmatched the entire battle. They were more graceful and more powerful than us, he thought. Then he looked up at his opponent and smiled. "Thanks for the great battle. It was really fun! Hopefully we'll meet again, and then I'll do way better!" he said.

"Good battle!" Carly called over to Danny and returned the smile. Lucario hurried to his trainer and the two hugged. "We're going to crush in the rest of this Contest, I know it!" She assured.

Valencia pouted. On one hand, it was only logical for a Chikorita to lose to a Lucario, but it was still a rather unfortunate start to Danny's career as a coordinator.

Danny found where his friends were sitting to watch the final battles. "Hey guys," he said simply. Tess looked disappointed and sat in his lap. He scratched her behind the ear reassuringly.
