Music The Background Music Thread

Yeah I know I'm a very vocal supporter of bringing back the older BGM but that's mainly for nostalgic scenes like in SM042 and more generic scenes like battles or meeting a COTD. For big important, series defining scenes like Serena's haircut it's usually better to play new music especially because the music they choose for those scenes tends to be used less often anyway.

I have a BGM question myself.

Does anyone know when the part of this piece that plays at 0:20 played during the XY series? It was excluded from the "standard" cut of the theme and I can only remember it playing during XY051 and XY085, both of which played more of the theme than usual. It also played during the remixed versions in XY014 and M18. It was weird that it didn't normally play because it did in the original Kanto version. I feel like @Gabo2oo or @ii kanji might know (my fellow Rocket fans :p)?

Har har, sorry no. As you may have already picked up I love music but know diddly squat about its use in the series... In this case, I am not worthy to bear the banner of a Rocket fan!!!

@kantoskies Yeah, it is weird that part didn't make the "standard cut", but I guess it's because there was no room for a longer music cut during the stock sequence. That part didn't actually play in any episodes other than the ones you already mentioned.

Aside from those two, the only variants the BGM would have was either adding the build-up from 0:13-0:16 when they needed it to be a little bit longer, or cutting the part from 0:33-0:36 when they needed it to be shorter. (There are two or three exceptions to this where the cut is slightly different, but nothing noteworthy.)

I made my own alternate cut that included that part I mentioned but shortened the ending (but not to a point that would be awkward) and it came out to about 32 seconds. The standard motto animation from XY was 30 seconds iirc, surely they could have mixed it up a bit :(

Also I determined if they started the music in SM042 right as the net grabbed all the Pokemon they could have used my version of the cut, which imo is more similar to how the Kanto version usually played.

And no, Idk why I care about this so much :p

I do! I mean, if they're going to use a piece of music which is a pretty basic remix of the original, why not use a similar cut of it?! It is actually quite annoying!
