Today wasn't just as cold. When my day ended, it was -9 degrees outside. The last two hours of guard was surprisingly warm, really.

The temperature is relatively stable at -13-14 degrees the next days. It's still pretty cold

Well, they decided to go completely nazi here. If it's messy, we're spending the night in a tent. And by messy, we're probably talking a paper on the floor or something like that.

Well, it's just crazy.

Something more crazy is that we have to go to a place to look for a laser-thingy for our gun. It costs roughly 5000-6000 $, so it's cheaper to send us up to look for it. It's 3 hours on a bus one way. And it's below -20 degrees there. Just another jolly field trip.

Yeah, you put a laser-thingy on your gun, so when you fire a round of loose ammo, it fires a laser. If that laser hits a special vest you're equipped with, you take damage or die, making you unable to shoot back with your laser. Makes for more realistic training scenarios. Expensive shit though. I think one vest, headpiece and laser is worth roughly 20 000 $. Imagine 200 guys running around in that kit, simulating war. It's pretty awesome when done right, though it has it's problems

Wow. That sounds pretty cool.

Yeah, I think it can simulate artillery and machine guns and I do believe you can mount it on tanks for extra fun.

Though for us in the recon platoon, it was pretty useless. We're not engaging the enemy any time soon anyways, we're supposed to stay hidden and observe.

I'm staff in the recon platoon, more specifically radio operator. I relay the information from the recon patrols and make sure all the radios work as they should.

I'm pretty far from the actual fighting, to be honest. Not really complaining about that though.

Making sure radio's work properly... Wasn't that what $¥ did in the army too?

Especially when it involves sitting in a tent, toasting bread and relaxing.

Tearing down camp at night though, is not anywhere near fun. Especially when you've got two officers constantly yelling at you, and you're not supposed to use light.

Yeah, I think so, although he's probably far better than me at it. I got a pretty short crash-course at it before our ten day maneuver, so I ended up learning by doing.

I always try to keep my room as cold as possible. I like to keep and study snow samples in there. I still have one from last year.

In NJ, it was normally hot.
Where I live now, it's always cold.
