Well, I'm practicing my ass of for a flute solo piece that's going to be judged by OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) representatives. That competition only occurs once a year and I've done it twice before in trios, but this is the first time I'm attempting a solo. So that's new for me.

The piece I'm doing isn't that difficult, though. It's just very dynamic and needs good breath support. Mike (our oboist in the Wind Ensemble, which consists of all of the band's best players, and I am a part of) thinks I should have done a harder piece. And I agree. Though I think the difficulty of one of the pieces Wind Ensemble's playing for District Contest more than makes up for it.

Dynamics can be tricky, especially for the smaller instruments and louder ones--gosh darn Clarinets, Trumpets, and Alto Saxophones got the dynamic control >_>...

I'm a Tenor Sax--oh, what's your piece called? Also, anyone else here practicing for districts than state for singing/instrumentals?

Can't see youtube links--but I can get around the youtube block if given the name/correct words to search for =) (so I can find the Menuett one).

Ah, search "Undertow by John Mackey" and click on the video titled ""Undertow" 2009 ATSSB Texas All-State Band". That's the best recording of it.

My song is Romance and Troika for the Tenor Sax.

It's a really pretty piece. I think my friend Cameron's doing that very same piece on bass clarinet.
