Well, I guess that psychologically (I don't know how to write this word), people will always try to imagine a situation, or, in this case, who they are talking to.
I mean: you can't talk to anyone without giving some personality to that person. That even changes your approach. You may enjoy talking to someone 5 years older or younger, but you won't talk to them the same way. The same goes for women and men.

Avatars/nicknames are even more confusing because they lead me to think I am talking to that avatar/nickname.

Kakuna Matata, I would bet you were a 14-year-old boy, for sure! It was very surprising when you said you were a female. I always imagined some teenager boy giving me those advices and expressing some strong opinions.

I hope I made myself clear =D
I can see that and have done that on occasion myself if I have not seen a picture of the person.

That said, on forums like this people generally go for nicknames. Seen a few people with parts of their real name, but not their full name. You usually don't want to put that out on the internet unless you're on a social networking site or for business purposes.

Don't see how that would make me a guy, but ok. 14? Guess I don't act my age at all. xD

Kakuna. You're talking about 4chan. You do realize this?

Welcome back Hallow.

Why wouldn't you want people to find out your gender on there FD?

Well with 4chan theres an unspoken rule that you dont reveal your gender if you are female and with the only other image board I go to, Ponychan, its more of a personal decision.

^ Couldn't you just troll with a picture of something else?

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up. Perhaps I'll trope it to learn more about it.

There's a Ponychan? Nice. xD

Kakuna, here in Brazil we use a very popular forum and social newtwork site, named Orkut.

It looks very similar to Facebook, but we have forums there too. People may join any community they like and talk there.
However, there has been one year, more or less, that people have started using Facebook and are abandoning Orkut.

But I've been using Orkut since 2004, and I am always reading and writing in the Fluminense community (which is the soccer team I support)
I just got used to talk to everyone seeing their pictures next to what they say, and their names right above. Fakes are usually seen as something somehow childish, or for vandals, who may bother everyone and remain anonymous (mainly those who support rival teams), although there are some exceptions.

Not a criticism, but maybe when I was 12 years younger, I would really enjoy using a Goku picture and identifying myself as "Goku_SSJ358", but nowadays it seems senseless. Perhaps because I face every forum community as a socializing tool, although that may not be a common sense.

Ah, it's been like 6 and a half years since I last used "Goku" in my username. I was pretty retarded then. :/

yes it will. Look. Take hurristat's advice. Read everyone's posts. Don't post anything on 4chan.
