Well Sinterklaas is somehow the same but with some different rituals than with Santa Clause, but yea they are pretty much the same.
Both hand out gifts and they both have helpers, but Sinterklaas party is on 5th of December.

Well I am confuses now so.
Well 6th of september he died, so I dunno for sure but I think it is to remember him or something because he was a good man in real live.
He is also a Saint that is also the reason why he is called 'Sint Nicolaas', hey he also have a english wiki

Sinterklaas seems a Santa's rival. I had never heard of it before.
But, for what I read, he's most known in the Netherlands, Belgium and nearby countries.
