The tournament is in Oslo, so that's probably where I'll be stationed. I'm sure it won't be hard to find things to do once I'm there. Still probably going to do a lot of drinking.

Well that's a good idea no matter where you are. (Unless you're in some ultra-Muslim country where alcohol is illegal, or something. But they have other things...)

Unrelated: I can't believe tomorrow is the first day of March. It means my first St. Patrick's Day in Boston is not far away.

Tomorrow is indeed March 1st, which means St David's Day! In case I'm not here tomorrow I'll just say happy St David's day now! ;w;

Nope, never been to Europe. I'm also not really sure what there is to do in Norway for 5 days. I'm probably going to end up doing a lot of drinking.

I'd like to point out that drinking in Norway is generally expensive. Well, a lot of things are, but that too.

It's chock-full of history and culture, I think it'd be quite interesting!

I'd say it's pretty bland, but that's just me.

Drinking is expensive everywhere. BUT IT'S WORTH IT!

topic of drinking: there is an almost gone bottle of white zinfandel downstairs in the fridge and I've been banned from drinking it

Nah, not really.

If you go to the store and pick up a regular six pack or something, how much do you reckon you pay on average. I need a comparison number.

Also, my code in the program I'm writing is acting oddly. It's calling functions it certainly shouldn't do.

It's hard to give an average because it depends on which brand of beer. In America it also depends a lot on the state, and how much their alcohol tax is and whether or not they're a bottle-deposit state (MA has both of those things, so booze is expensive in Boston). So yeah, since if Norway is anything like Sweden, I assume the sales tax is really high, and so I suppose you'd be right it costs a lot more for a six-pack.

But he's probably talking more about going to a bar, and yeah, if you're drinking alcohol you're going to be paying significantly more than if you drink something non-alcoholic, plus there aren't free refills. Even at relatively cheap bars.

Let's just say there's a good reason a lot of people travel across the border to buy alcohol (amongst other things).

Obviously bars are going to be more expensive than store, but I'd still say that it can be a pretty pricey affair if you go to a not so cheap place.

I bet you have good beer though.

Not to my knowledge. I could be mistaken, though I wouldn't bet on it. I know for sure that the local beer up here is not much to brag about, as well as the larger national brands. I haven't tested too much of the minor ones to give an accurate opinion though, so don't take my word as truth.

I've heard that Oslo is one of the prime places for coffee though. Generally Norwegians chug down coffee all the time. To cope with the darkness, idk.

All that excessive darkness in winter and excessive sunlight in summer probably fucks with your sleeping schedule.

(When I was in Sweden it was in August, and my mind was blown by how late the sun set, and this wasn't even anywhere near the Arctic Circle.)

Yeah, having daylight all day is cool enough, at least until you get to bed. I don't live that far north, but I've got relatives living further north that I visit from time to time.

Summer is pretty nice due to the long days. December is pretty shitty when it comes to light though.

Speaking of sleeping, it's about time I got to bed. Have a midterm in geometry tomorrow.

I'll be there in the not winter so it should be light most of the time. I've been to Alaska before and I thought it was cool how the sun was up nearly all the time.
