Yeah, erotica really irks me as you have described it. People tend to shrug it off, but at the moment where its become mainstream is where the line should be drawn. Porn isn't as bad as you already said, but erotica being mainstream should be the issue instead. And its not bad parenting if the 15yr olds are discussing it, its society being a bit poor in quality to allow such a thing to happen.

Should we not crank up the quality of our society, instead of going after the results of it :d.

It won't pass. If it does then it'll just be the alcohol prohibition again. The EU knows that it can't censor every possible website, it can take months just to take down a torrent site, what luck will they have taking down millions of porn sites. None. They can block access to the popular ones, but people will just go to other sites. If people want alcohol or cocaine or porn, they'll seek it out in whatever way possible.

Korea has a ban on porn. It's lulzy that one of the most (the most?) internet connected countries in the world has a ban on porn.

Also 5000 likes.

I wasn't aware any country had a ban on porn, from what I knew it was available to everyone and anyone who wanted it because the world is weird like that.

Eh, this is where we part ways. I have no problem with erotica being "mainstream" as in Fifty Shades of Grey. Hell, I think that Fifty Shades is only notable because of how popular it is (and because it's BDSM, probably). Erotica has been easily available at bookstores for a long time. I was just telling one of my friends about the Pride and Prejudice fanfic "sequel novels" that are basically Elizabeth and Darcy having lots of sex, that my mom stumbled across once by accident, not knowing what she was getting into.

This could be because I'm biased; I read a lot of stuff on fanfiction sites that would likely be classed as "erotica" if it were ever available commercially, and you'll take my smut away from me over my cold dead hands. :-D But even in a non-personal sense, I think that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it; on the contrary, I like the idea of it being a way for women who are ashamed of being publicly sexual being able to explore their sexuality in private. What bothers me is the double standard there is between erotica and porn, as though they don't exist for basically the same reasons, and as though one is more shameful than the other.

I wasn't aware any country had a ban on porn, from what I knew it was available to everyone and anyone who wanted it because the world is weird like that.

I'm sure it's banned in some more theocratic countries out there, like Saudi Arabia or Iran.

I really think that without porn, people would be a lot more horny than they already are all the time. I'm grateful for it, then.

My views are basically the same as Tom Lehrer's on this subject:

"I do have a cause, though; it is obscenity. I'm for it."

I really think that without porn, people would be a lot more horny than they already are all the time. I'm grateful for it, then.

Exactly. The M rating on fanfiction.net has gotten me through many lonely nights

Lol. Nothing wrong with boosting your self esteem :p

It just kind of appalls me how poorly-written some of the stuff I've enjoyed there is.

But then THAT'S NOT THE POINT isn't it? It's not like most porn has great production values or acting, either. :p

Fanfiction.net is a really weird case of bipolar feelings for me. On one hand I hate fanfics, and I never would enjoy them, on the other I love this one harry potter fanfic which involves him and his twin sister Evelyn featuring in this parallel universe Book 7 with a pretty awesome battle of hogwarts involving these bunkers which are under the forbidden forest and link up to the greenhouses.

I mostly (not exclusively) just read the sex fanfics.

Because, again, most of it's terribly-written. But with that stuff, I don't care.

Also, Archive of Our Own often has a better writing quality than stuff on Fanfiction.net, although if you're not into slash or femslash, I would stay away, as that's a huge chunk of it (and largely what it's best known for). Unless you have a fandom with a high number of canon heterosexual relationships.

Are we really talking about porn?

When are we ever not in this thread?

(or at least, something to do with us "dancing with ourselves")

When we're talking about booze.

But that has its own thread now.

So it's just smut, smut, smut all the time in here now.
True enough. Smut with a side order of smut and smut for dessert! Smut for breakfast, smut for dinner, smut all the live long day!

I hate fanfics, and I never would enjoy them

high five!
Read on, your soul will be crushed. But seriously, its only 1 exception.

Much more appropriate, just put smut wherever spam is. Or hell, both work.
