The Beatles are the best rock band, my top 5 would include Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Black Sabbath and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Cliche as fuck.

I just feel so cliche that my favorite band is The Beatles.

But, I mean, c'mon. They're just SO GOOD. My musical taste has changed by leaps and bounds since I first became a Beatles fan, but they've always been at the top, at least when it comes to other popular music. (I think comparing The Beatles to, like, Wagner or Beethoven or something is too apples and oranges.)

Same with me and Pink Floyd. They will always be my favesies no matter what.

I really really like some Floyd albums. Especially their early stuff with Syd Barrett, and the stuff around the time of WYWH/Dark Side. But there are others I'm kind of meh about. But the Floyd stuff I like, I really really REALLY like.

Each of their albums have been my favorite at one point in time. As I've settled as a fan I've decided that Dark Side of the Moon is actually my favorite, but I do like them all. I don't expect normal people to like something like Ummagumma though.

Fun fact! I have a book that I got from the publishers' fair at the American Musicological Society conference last year, that is all scholarly writings on Revolver. It is awesome.

I don't expect normal people to like something like Ummagumma though.

Oh, I like that one. It's more their later stuff that leaves me kind of cold.

Like, I think The Wall is kind of overrated. I more like individual tracks on it than the album as a whole.

(I'm also probably not "normal" when it comes to tastes in popular music, probably because of the classical music education, particularly the modern classical music one.)

Dude, you really need to listen to more Beatles, definitely. 1 is great, but it's their no. 1 singles, and to me, what really makes them so significant and awesome are their albums, and a lot of the stuff that wasn't released as singles - particularly as they got more experimental. Grab Sgt. Pepper, Revolver and The White Album to start.

My parents played Sgt. Pepper and Yellow Submarine a lot when I was little, so I at least have that going for me. xD The Beatles are such a cultural icon that it'll be easy to pick them up whenever I like. There are so many copies of the white album on vinyl at my local record store.

You should see if you can get one of the ones with a poster included, like when it was originally released in 1968.

I approve of all these choices.

Top five popular music artists, at the moment, would probably be:

1. The Beatles
2. Talking Heads
3. The Velvet Underground
4. Cream
5. Either Radiohead or The Clash

This discussion has now inspired me to indulge my love of early Floyd.

[video=youtube;Nn_E4bGgYJE]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn_E4bGgYJE[/video]

I remember a boy I liked in 10th grade made me a CD of a bunch of Floyd albums (that I can't find! ugh) and I played the shit out of A Saucerful of Secrets and this was my favorite track on it.

God, if only I hadn't acted like such a psychopath around everyone I crushed on in high school, he actually had potential, man. There was chemistry and shit. Legit chemistry. And he's still cute even today! (if Facebook is anything to go by)

I remember the night I first heard Dark Side of the Moon. I couldn't get to sleep because of some car alarm, and it was school night. I had downloaded DSOTM earlier and I plugged it in, just to listen to and drift off. I stayed awake for the whole album, mesmerised by the sheer beauty of it.

It really is an amazing little work of music.

I want to listen to it high. I have smoked pot on how many occasions now? and never done this?
I feel like a bad psychedelic rock fan/stoner.

Oh you should. Or you could cut crack on top of the cd case.

@maria;

Haha! Nah, I stick to the soft drugs. My life's fucked-up enough without having to add addiction to my list of problems.

Also, I looked on that guy's Facebook again and I take back my previous statement. He's...okay-looking today. He was really cute in 10th grade though. Because I'm sure you all care so much about my adolescent love life.

We all get old and ugly. And some of us get fat.

I have no way to play vinyl. ;_; If I did, I swear to you that I would have dropped everything and bought that Kid A LP in a split second. Nope, I only support CD, cassette, and MP3 at the moment, but MP3s piss me off to no end.

If we're talking top 5 artists here... man, this'll be tough.

1. Radiohead
2. Muse
3. Coldplay
4. Sigur Ros
5. Mastodon

This actually wasn't hard to make, but it is very, very general. It wasn't very hard to make when I thought about what basis I'd rank bands on. I thought this would be hard because Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay have been my go-to trifecta for a long time now, but when you got down to it, Muse are just a rock band and Coldplay are just a pop band, but based purely on how much I enjoy listening to a band, they still make my top 3 (Radiohead is #1 without a doubt, though :p). I listen to bands much more talented than Muse and Coldplay (I feel bad for not putting Gojira on that list somewhere), but based just on how much it resonates with me on a personal level, that's my list. Honorable mentions go to Gojira and Godspeed You! Black Emporer.

So speaking of Facebook...

I friended one of my mom's coworkers, because she sent me a friend request and she has helped me with French-related stuff in the past, and is nice. But my mom warned me, this woman does not STFU about her kids. And boy, was she ever right about that.

"[Name] was snuggling [younger son] this morning and said, "Buddy, I love you so much! Do you love mommy too?" He responded, "I love [older son]." Being rejected has never felt so sweet. ♥"

WHY DOES SHE THINK WE GIVE ANY SHITS. And I have another Facebook friend who posts about her kids' potty-training. Get a fucking mommy-blog! This kind of stuff makes me want to never reproduce, because I'm totally worried I'll turn into one of those crazy parents like that - considering how I am about my cats, lol.

(By the way, I'm not trying to change the topic, I like the music discussion here. But I just needed to bitch about this.)

Any statement that starts with "As a mother, I..." Can be immediately discarded. That's all I got to say.

You know ten years ago today Ruby and Sapphire came out? Jesus.

Also, everyone should listen to Basic Channel. But no one will :(

God, because I needed another reason to feel old.

I mean, besides the fact that an increasing number of my Facebook friends have married and/or reproduced, and I have no interest in doing either of those things for a long, long while. In fact, I pretty much want to tie up the parts of my ladybusiness that have to do with getting pregnant (as opposed to orgasms) and, when I'm the right age, adopt.

At least your newsfeed isn't littered with swag related posts, pictures, etc. A side effect of adding everyone you have ever met and more.

Holy crap, really? Wow. Here I was thinking today was special because it's the day before Fred Rogers' birthday.

I've listened to them/him/it! I liked them/him/it a lot.

Oh, I did that when I was in high school, and it looked like that.

But I've de-friended 95% of those people over the last five years.

Trust me, I'd rather see some idiot rave about how he's "so gangsta" because he walked around a really-safe part of Baltimore after dark, than see pictures of potty-training.
