So we actually talked about Pokemon in the musicology grad student office.

And found out the guy who always has the most hilarious, random stories was a "Pokemon card hustler" in elementary school. He'd make fake Charizard cards and sell them to stupid people.

This guy also has a neighbor who, during the really epic blizzard that Boston dealt with a month ago or whatever, was trying to melt the snow in his yard with a flamethrower. Seriously. A flamethrower.

Despite what Pokemon would tell you, it apparently wasn't actually super-effective.

I just spent like an hour watching short films to make a little playlist for @Dolce;

Anyone eles want it? It's odd, experimental film, but I think it'll be worth your time.

@maria; I'm game. I'm a film geek and I don't watch nearly enough short films.

So in my little novel I'm writing, one of the characters has the ability to shapeshift, which he "unlocks" relatively late in the story. As a bit of foreshadowing, I decided to rename him Leonard, after my favorite fictional "human chameleon", but I'm trying to decide if he should go by Lenny or Leo or Leon. Which nickname is best?

Comingled Containers (mute, experimental)
5/4 (Cartoon, musical, Russian.)
Outer Space (highly experimental, black and white, horror, flashing images, you will never have seen anything like this.)
Begone Dull Care (if anything, it's like a combination of the first two, and a complete opposite to the third video :p)
MUTO (graffiti, stop motion, pretty odd.)

My novel is also coming along well. Almost got a page done.

Seriously.

@maria; Thanks!

Re: my novel - yeah, well, I'm writing it very out of order, shall we say. I kind of try out writing scenes as they come into my head.

I tried the one where Leonard finds out he can shapeshift, it sucked. Ugh.

One of the villains/people who know more shit than the heroes do gives some cryptic-ass conversation about how he's always been someone who has been good at being whoever people want him to be, now he literally can be other people. Leonard takes way too long to figure out what this means, even though he has had superpowers for a while and all the others on their team have been unlocking "special powers" that aren't necessarily related to their main elemental power.

I'm also writing out of order. Though that's a narrative or something. I have no idea how long it should be. Anywhere between 2000 words to 40000. I'll probably get 800 though :p

I've decided just this second that the final part of the narrative will be from the perspective of the main character losing oxygen, and dying. The thoughts he remembers become mashed.

His words ram together, his ideas melt, the blood rushes to his head and his eye swallow the last of the light. The room bleeps his heart beats, his eyes shut and open and close and gasp for life. He struggles and struggles it beats and thumps. He was dying, so soon would he disappear and be forgotten and return to the earth, his flesh will fall and his bones will fade.

Now, I think that's fine for my end. I'll tweak it later. Or delete it. Who knows, not me certainly.

Hey, guys :D !

Sounds cool, maria. I enjoy putting my characters through a lot while I write.

Part of the problem is that I imagine a lot of these scenes more in terms of film/television than in terms of a novel.

I was going to post an excerpt, but I don't know. I feel like none of this is good. I might post another part of the story in the Writer's Workshop though.

I polish my writing a lot before I show anyone. I've been thinking that it would be cool to be a writer on a TV show.

I always imagine what I write as a little film in my head, a screenplay before a screenplay.

You could post a small section here. Or post more over in the proper place :p

I think writing for TV would be my ultimate writing dream, assuming I get a lot of creative freedom.

I might post a snippet about the girl with fire powers (they all have elemental powers; shapeshifter-dude's main power is water). Because I really like the way that one turned out.

Also, because her character lives in Boston, I was thinking of referencing my friend's weird story about his neighbor melting snow with a flamethrower. By having her use her fire powers on snow. Or something.

I'm definitely going to do a fight scene where she blows up an (empty - she's not like that, at least initially) T train. And every reader who has ever lived in eastern Massachusetts will rejoice.

I don't really polish my writing a whole lot, actually. I do most of my editing and re-working by the paragraph. I probably shouldn't do that.

What's really weird is that my tumblr is linked as my "website" on the Autostraddle team page.

And I feel like there needs to be a disclaimer there that there is nothing any normal person would find interesting about it.
