Wow, that's pretty interesting, I didn't know there was something like that. Does it happen elsewhere or is it just northern Europe?

Speaking of Europe, according to this day/night app on my phone, the sun never sets completely in northern parts of Europe this time of year. How do you guys sleep at night?

Well, I don't live north of the polar circle, so we don't get midnight sun here, but during the summer, the days are very long. It's pretty sweet.

That being said, during the darkest parts of the winter, the sun sets at maybe 14-14:30 (not to mention it rises pretty late as well), making it very dark very fast. Again, going north makes that even shorter, so if you don't like perpetual darkness during winter, it's probably not the place for you.

I did get some midnight sun last summer when I was up north visiting relatives. It's a bit annoying when you try to sleep, but you get used to it.

Wait, Britain isn't really in the north, is it ...

Not really, no.

Does it happen elsewhere or is it just northern Europe?

Anywhere far north/far south really (depending on the time of year). It's just that most places so far north tends to ... not be inhabited.

H-Con explained it way better than I could have. The farthest north I have ever been is England during the autumn. It was overcast every day and I got horrible jet lag. I've lived in the tropics my whole life, so day and night are the same length year round basically.

Sounds like every one of my visit to England.

Not that I mind cloudy weather though.

Also, midnight sun is pretty cool when you're out in the middle of the night, and it's so light it could basically be the middle of the day. Who sleeps anyways?

Like H-Con said, this phenomenon happens above the Northern Polar Circle and below the Southern Polar Circle. That certainly is NOT United Kingdom, and there must be some locations in North America and NE Russia that get it as well. The southern one does not affect any populace because no one lives that close to Antarctica. Still, even places close to the circle get midnight sun but it's not as intense.

Even then, sleeping should not be such a problem. In every country, you can just shyt down all doors and windows and sleep whenever you want. After all, people do get tired and sleep because of it no matter if there's light outside :))

Jet lag is jet lag. I prefer having sleep on the plane and then adjusting to time before I leave from Australia.

Mintaka; Thanks for mentioning that about Korean Wiis. I've been wondering where your accent was from since that Christmas video the mods made. Quest complete!
LOL. Yes, I'm Korean, so there you go. x)
I didn't feel right about just asking. I thought it would be weird, which is probably weird in itself but whatever.
Not everyone goes to the semi-finals, because some countries get an automatic pass into the final. Britain is one of them. :p But they countries that do compete in the semi-finals differ, and those decide if they get through to the final or not. It isn't the same countries every round. :3
So do the same countries get a pass every time, or are there preliminary rounds you don't get to see on TV?

They get it in Alaska. (Alaska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) That was weird, nothing happened when I clicked Link.

They pass every time. These countries are UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. They are also called the "Big Five", because they are EBU's (host organization's) biggest sponsors.
However, they are some rounds we don't get to see on TV. They are the rehearsals before each show, done one day before. It's basicly the competition again, but the judges vote that time, which means that 50% of the results is ready as of the contest's beginning.

Don't worry, you're not the only one procrastinating work right now.

Terrific, my train to New York got cancelled due to some fucking derail in Connecticut.

Now I have to find a bus that runs the previous day and find a not-too-expensive hotel room and this is NEW YORK and I'm pretty sure "cheap" is a concept that doesn't exist there. Kill me now. Ugh.

GBM, just know that when you get on, I will make my entire family watch you, so do not fuck this up! Plus, you are pretty smart and the questions are so easy, especially in the college version.

Make a Craigslist ad. You can probably find somebody to put you up. I suggest packing pepper spray and possibly a Swiss army knife though.

Are we talking Jeopardy? If so then the questions are definitely not easy. Only the kids version have pretty easy questions.

I watched the college edition a few nights ago and got nearly all the questions right. Either the questions are easy or I just know a whole ton of random trivia.

I have to admit the normal version is difficult though.

Maybe you got lucky with topics you were familiar with. If I get super lucky I can answer maybe a third of the questions in normal jeopardy. This was several years ago though, but I don't think the result would be much different today unless they made the questions be about minecraft or the difference between dynamite and TNT.
