I'm forced to pay around €90 a month to be allowed to go to the hospital. Doesn't even include dental and lacks a lot of other stuff too as I have the bare minimum of insurance. No idea what exactly falls under it and what doesn't.

Our health care is tax funded and within that you're covered for dental, mental, physical, hospital trips, injections, lots of stuff. You can of course go private as well, such as I do for dental care, but I can freely use NHS dentists too. It's a great system and is well worth being taxed for it.

How much are you taxed for it?

HM Revenue & Customs: Income Tax allowances that might explain it better than I could. Depending on your income you're taxed a percentage and part of that tax goes to fund the NHS. The rest funding whatever else the government spends. I am unemployed currently so I don't have a wage or an income that tax deductible, but i receive the full benefits of a taxpayer.

We could use something like the NHS here in America, but I dont think it'll happen anytime in the near future or if ever, but it certainly would be nice.

Speaking of healthcare, my eyelid just became swollen, and now I can barely blink or see out of my right eye. I'll just wait it out.

Also, congrats @amethystGoblin; Are you going to go to your prom?

About a week too late for that. Didn't care all that much, too much money.

We have like minds. To me prom is where cool people brag to each other. I ain't about that life.

Also, I find it hilarious how I can tell a person's political persuasions simply from their reaction to free healthcare. Personally, I am afraid of it. From personal experience.

Now the real fun part of education begins! That is, of course, if you plan on starting college/university.

Seems an awful strange thing to be afraid of. Against the concept, sure, but afraid? Do explain if you want.

May I ask what that is? Because in true *insert best President of all time here* fashion, I fear your fear.

I grew up somewhere, where free clinics were notoriously dangerous for giving people the wrong medications. Also, no one made it out of the public hospital alive. If you wanted to live, you better be rich! Three options, die at home, die at the public hospital or be rich and pay for private healthcare. I admit, that was most likely an isolated situation and it is probably well funded in other countries so there stems the source of fear.

To be honest, I have no opinion. If I get good free healthcare, I'll take it, if not just go private.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford high-end healthcare, myself. I need it. I have a serious and complicated neurological condition that requires frequent testing, hospitalization, and treatments. I'd say any bias I have here is personal, not political - but here goes:

I'd not be against socialized healthcare here in the US, as an institution: As corrupt and bloated as the government is here, I still value its (relative) ethical integrity compared to insurance companies and a great deal of private companies. That being said, if a sudden switch from a system with mostly privatized healthcare to a system with fully public, tax-paid health is implemented, that brings a whole set of problems of its own.

The system itself, once established, is great - but the transitory phase could take decades before the system reaches a point of stability. The US already has an extremely high demand for medical doctors, due at least in part to shortage. Making healthcare free/affordable/available to everyone would inevitably cause an instant increase in demand for medical professionals and make availability of doctors even lower. The quality of healthcare, in all fields, would be lowered dramatically (at least temporarily - I would guess 1-2 decades). It's already to the point that primary care is, more and more, handled by nurses, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants. I'd have to say that this is not a good thing, especially for people with complex or co-morbid medical conditions, undiagnosed diseases or diseases with unknown etiology. Frankly, this level of expertise can only be attained by an MD.

I do feel bad for people who cannot afford healthcare, but equality in this issue would certainly do damage for the minority of people who have complex and serious medical conditions. In conclusion, I'd say that while equality in socialized healthcare is a great and wonderful thing, in this country at least we have some serious shortcomings in the availability of doctors which would certainly reduce our health as a nation overall. While desirable, and even inevitable, we have other criteria to first meet before universal healthcare becomes a viable course of action.

Me and my friends are all going to the same community college, we really should sync at least one of our classes if possible...

You should take Spanish and start a study group.
Only if I can be the Abed of the group.

@Jolene; I think you knew my political opinions already.

But in all honesty (and not blaming you, you weren't the first), I didn't mean to start a political discussion with that comment. I was hoping to start more of a discussion on the cosplay topic, particularly on the topic of "how do girls with big breasts deal with strapless dresses because I'd like to wear them but UGH and UGH to strapless bras also."
