It is an interesting topic that could make for a good thread in Serious Business, though like Fab said, without any namecalling.

So, fjords. Coves, cliffs, and forests abutting coastlines... the sudden change from high altitude to low, amazingly long distances to see... yet anything can be concealed behind the next bend. How can you not love them? If you've never been to Scandinavian, Greenlandic(?), or Icelandic coastlines, you should. It's worth it.

Where else in the world do these majestic geological constructs exist? Have any of us here seen them? How do they differ from the ones I've seen? (see above)

Personally I think that's a bad idea. Conflicting opinions from people who mostly don't have a clue about the obesity epidemic will almost certainly lead to offense on quite a few people's part. For any obese users amongst us, i'm sure they don't want to log in and see a thread like that. This short discussion has already been a disaster.

I'd love to change the subject. New topic ideas? I'm too tired to think one up ;_;

What I think is cool, but doesn't really classify as what you want. The Pyramids, how the ancient egyptians were able to make that astonishes me.

Some tribe in Greece (can't remember there name) they were technology on par, if not higher then us. Stuff like that amazes me to this day.

Hey, I'll talk about anything I know a little bit about! Ancient megalithic structures are amazing, I would love to see the Egyptian pyramids again. It's incredible to consider the logistics and manpower that went into the building of these.

Also, I've heard it proposed that the Roman Empire's technology had the potential to exceed ours (flight, power, etc) if they hadn't relied so heavily on slave labor. How about that?

Oh yeah, those bunch of Cretans. That's all I remember about them, except possibly something to do with a bull. Maybe Daedalus' labyrinth? Or was that the Mycenaeans?

The Mycenaeans were even more advanced than the Minoans. When they went down that ushered the dark age for Greek.

I love Greek myths, but I cannot remember much at the moment. Way too sleepy.

Cool. I really need to read more about Greek history... My knowledge is too basic and what I do know has been unused. Hellenic philosophy, on the other hand...

I used to love Greek Mythology as a child. Still do!
It's hard to pick a favorite, but I really liked the story of Hermes, Apollo, and the Lyre...

I like Norse Mythology the best myself. Why? Well, I'm a Metalhead, and most of my heritage is of Nordic descent. There is this though...

If I'm not mistaken, I think you could find some in Chile and New Zealand to name some. I don't know how they differ from the fjords where I live though.

Ehhm, what? I have the utmost respect for some of the scientific achievements of ancient civilizations and scholars, who managed to do pretty awesome things, but to say that they were technologically on par with us is just wrong.

I remember seeing a documentary once where they found some Roman medical equipment that was almost identical to modern ones. Pretty fascinating.

I adore Greek, Celtic, and Norse mythology, but obviously Welsh mythology is my favourite. xD Being raised on the Mabanogion and folktales and what not, it's basically a part of me.

And also, uh, excuse my ignorance, but how could ancient tribes have technology on a par/higher than us without us knowing about it? Maybe you're right, but that sounds a little ... I don't know.

I think that if any ancient people created devices on par with Pre-WW2 technology, we would have known about it by now. I don't see how any civilisation could have any technology on par with our creations and us not having discovered it.

I think that there's always a tiny possibility that ancient civilisation was contacted and communicated with alien life forms, and maybe they brought suitable technology or information for this civilisation, but I'd think such a momentous occasion would have been recorded for future generations, no tribe couldn't have the foresight to try record this possible event.
