Shuckpluff makes Arceus look bad. Shuckpluff is like the Ferrothorn of the future. Shuckpluff is FFulpkcuhs spelled backwards.

I forgot, what's its typing?

Rock/Bug/Grass/Flying, obviously.

I guess I could work out the type chart on it based on that.

4x weak to stealth rock. Yeah, that is not going to cut it for a defensive pokemon. It will probably fall to NU regardless of how high its defensive stats are. Besides that weaknesses to flying, rock, steel, fire and ice means it's weak to scizor's bullet punch and mamoswine's ice shard, while its resistences of normal, fighting, ground and grass aren't really that good, except maybe to counter breloom.

I conclude that Shuckpluff due to its typing doesn't even come close to being as good as ferrothorn.

That's untrue though. Here is some actual info on Shuckpluff: Stats, typing, abilities, and movepool

Yeah I knew it had an actual typing, that's why I asked. Still, not having a water resist hurts it.

Prankster Cotton Guard makes it ... reasonably bulky. Without a phazer or something like that, that's hard to take down (especially with seeding and the like).

Neosquid thought it didn't need Prankster because it has base 110 speed, but I kind of like it there.

Shuckpluff is Grass/Rock. The base stats are 70/45/230/45/230/110, with the abilities Prankster, Chlorophyll, and Gluttony. Notable moves include Leech Seed, Protect, Substitute, Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Wrap, Shell Smash, Baton Pass, Toxic, Encore, Stealth Rock, and others.

Does Prankster + status move overrun base one priority moves if the speed is higher? If so, that's a +3 defense boost before that Bullet Punch comes a-knocking.

I think it does, yes.

I did some damage calculations. Used max Attack CB Scizors Bullet Punch for reference.
Build is 252/0/0/0/252/4 Calm Shuckpluff

With +3 Def, Bullet punch does 23.6%-27.77% damage, which isn't even a 4HKO with lefties (not to mention seeding). Of course, that's assuming stats cap out at 999 (don't they do that?). If not, the damage drops to max 22.7%. With +6 Def, that would be less than 15%.

Just to delve even further into theoretical-land, what if the set was 252/0/252/0/4/0 Bold, and stats don't cap? Well...
Starting at +3 Def, the damage is about 18.7%. At +6 Def, that becomes 12.3% max (min 10.5 %, not even a 10HKO).

Of course, that would quickly make the Scizor U-Turn out, which wouldn't do a lot more damage.
