Make the eyes more narrow. Use more rigid and angular facial lines. Less eyeshadow would also help.

Re: The Bulbagarden Non-Topic Conversational Thread

it's a young boy, and they're supposed to have somewhat big eyes, right?

and angular face would help yes but I just fail like that. :/

aaaaand I'm afraid eyeshadow has to stay if it's going to be an Okami crossover.

but seriously...
trying to help/motivate me like that with a sensitive subject only demotivates me and makes me feel much less like doing anything...

Well, then I can't help you if you're too bent up on how "awful" you may think you are.

Re: The Bulbagarden Non-Topic Conversational Thread

"awful" ?

no, I'm not bad. it's just really disheartening to hear I can't draw guys at all without them looking like girls. I never have been able to. my friend tells me anime boys usually look like girls anyway, but that doesn't help... ~__~

Re: The Bulbagarden Non-Topic Conversational Thread

It all depends on the style. Yours is obviously shojou, which is perfectly fine. Now that I look at him again, I can believe that he's a boy.

But. If you want to go for a more masculine approach, try looking at some shonen characters.

Re: The Bulbagarden Non-Topic Conversational Thread

maybe the whole pic would help as well... but you've seen the sketch, right?

I know what shounen style looks like, and I've tried it but I can't do anything of my own for some reason... :/

I haven't seen the sketch...

Personally, I think guys in general are more difficult to draw than women.

it's true. D:

I bet everyone kinda has problems with one gender or the other, though that doesn't really make me feel much better...

I spent most of my art time drawing women. I can't really draw men's bodies all that great.

But, you should feel better. Every artist has a weakness and it's not impossible to overcome.

What have I missed besides talking about art? This thread goes by WAY too fast.

That's funny, I was thinking DBZ. Or at least Chrono Trigger. (Same artist.)

Play bass and continue drawing. At the same time.

Awesome new avatar! Does not look like a panda, IMO.

Re: The Bulbagarden Non-Topic Conversational Thread

I think drawing men is slowly becoming my weakness, mostly because I never do it anymore. However, I have a far more Westernized style, which makes guys look pretty manly(at least that's how they register to me...)
