I didn't like Calvin and Hobbs. it just wasn't that funny to me. and I don't get what's funny about that particular one either...
then again I pretty much don't like any comics ever...
Calvin and Hobbes was more about characters and situations than jokes. You had to appreciate Hobbes's wry wisdom and Calvin's insanity to like the comic. A lot of people did, so I'm surprised it only lasted ten years.
It was also more about visuals than dialogue. If you look through the strips, you'll notice the exaggeration of some facial expressions, and the wackiness of the strip's drawings. Plus Bill Watterson would leave out more dialogue as the strip went on.
