hey Ambi, as you have a dsi already what exactly is the difference qua buttons? Some site said they were more clicky or something, but what does that mean?

Yes DSi's buttons are more clicky. That means they make an audible 'click' sound when pressed, and they have a more snappy feel to them than the Lite's somewhat soft buttons.

@Azure Kite: Uh. Enhancements? As far as I know, the DSi and DS Lite run on the same basic engine, so both systems play all retail games on the DS platform. The only DSi exclusive games are the Shop games.

Not like the start and slect buttons on the lite right? Because I hate pressing those buttons (well hate, dislike).

Anyway, finally I found measurements of the dsi xl (not just the screen), and metric too. Now I'll draw it on a paper and I'll have a feeling how big it is.

The DSi XL is the heaviest portable in its product family weighing 314 grams and is the tallest and broadest being 91.4 mm tall × 161 mm broad × 21.2 mm wide. It features two 4.2-inch screens

hmm. well, I guess there's no such thing as a DSi enhancement if that's the case...

late reply is late thanks to forum death. So I took a shower while I waited. :p

That does suck, yes. But I'm not an importer, so it's not a problem for me.
Understandable. But if you were like me, where I'm nearing the point where half of my DS games are imports, it does matter, and it matters a lot.
The DSi Camera is a lot better than most cell phone cameras, and I don't even own a real camera. The DSi Shop has some great games that are worth your time, and the most expensive one is only 1000 points ($10). But the worth of the shop's games a matter of opinion.
I, honestly, only use my phone's camera to send pictures to twitpic, or to change my cellphone's background to something. Thus, the camera is completely useless. Yeah, whatever, phone cameras being worse. But think about it, which is easier to pull out? Your DS or your phone? The phone is lighter and easier to take the photo with.
a downgrade from the original? IMO, that's not even possible. :|
That is, of course in YOUR opinion. I beg to differ.

Second part is the answer. Example: THE [email protected]: Dearly Stars. If playing on a (Japanese) DSi, you can use photos as backgrounds for the stage. They plain just don't show up/activate on a regular DS/DS lite. But this tiny thing makes it impossible to play on a non-Japanese DSi. People have tried. It just plain does not load.

Of course, Japan may be the only one doing silly pointless things like that, since I don't know any DSi Enhanced games other than [email protected] DS.

Also, there ARE cartridge DSi ONLY games, not just DS store games. I don't know if they're state side, but I have seen articles. Can't remember the game name, but I know they've done/are working on doing it, so yeah. :/

I'm with you here. True, the DSi has a few cool functions, but the main one that turns me off is the fact it can't play GBA games (I might still need to Pal Park stuff from my Pokemon GBA games to the DS games). The dongle function of D/P/Pt is pretty much killed as well.

I never knew about cartridge DSi games, though.

Anyway, merry Christmas, NyaChan! It's Christmas day where I am.

Looked it up. Dunno how reliable you guys consider Kotaku, but first, the DSi =/= DS lite's engine:

click

And that DSi-Only Game:

click

Checked out the links.

Now this is made worse by the fact I might get a DSi later.

I forgot to mention this, but there's a Guitar Hero game that relies on the GBA slot for the keys.

Lulzies has awesome sprites in that album. *__*

and I'm on a search for either English or Japanese voice actors who sound 16-18, are soft voiced and sound kinda girly but are still primarily boyish.

needless to say, I have no idea how to look for VAs. I could use some help OTL

Well, all the people are shaded...

mikkurimasu_wip10.png

Think I can finish the BG in... 2.5 hours? xD

Fun fact: I have 112 layers of JUST shading. Don't even want to know how many it is with all the named layers (I didn't name any of the shading layers >_>)

I got My Japanese Coach as an early Christmas present. It's fun! =D I'm still at the "Baby" rank, however. xD

I like the coach's animations. =D

The game's kinda meh as far as teaching goes though IMO. Verb forms are all stuffed into a few lessons one after another and half the games use romaji. :/ On top of that they don't even really use hiragana/katakana and make you read it until lesson 20-something. It doesn't even really cover particles and what each one does that well. I haven't finished it (nor do I need to, obviously), but it doesn't really do a good job teaching sentence structure from what I did finish.

It's a nice start, but don't expect to really get far with what it does teach.

btw, don't feel bad about the "baby" rank. You can't even get much higher than that if you ace the test. >_> Trust me, I tried. It doesn't let me skip farther than the "です" lesson.

geez, everyone wants to/is learning Japanese...

it's an interesting (and hard as HELL to learn) language. Plus it's the language of the country that Pokémon comes from after all, so most people are interested in it. You can learn a lot more information ahead of time if you learn it. Not saying that learning it just to understand anime and manga and the like is a good thing, but it's a nice perk from working your butt off to learn such a hard language.

And, because we're on the topic, have a funny essay about learning Japanese:

Yeah, I'm just doing really basic stuff like numbers and colors now, once it gets up to around sentence fluency and the like I'll find something else.

What's interesting is I took Spanish for two years, and the Japanese vowels are the same as in Spanish. It just goes "ah, eh, ee, oh, oo." So I started off at Lesson 4 just for knowing that.
