I don't know what I would major in, I'm still in HS, 11th grade, but I do have ideas of what I would I would like to get into, the main general areas technology, history, science, and arts. I'm torn between what to decide.

The cool thing is that you still have ALL the time in the world to decide what you'd like to do...I think it's PHENOMENAL that you have so many interests. I know way too many people your age who simply don't see the beauty in any of the topics you listed. College is about figuring it out, so don't stress, just let it come naturally. I have faith in you! <33

Rofl. :) Yes. I am one of those weird chicks who is going to grow up being a fat lady...good stufffff.

Eh, I'm not really interested in the general English major. My core focus is abstract writing and poetry. :) Silly me!!!

<3 Reading people. It's like an entirely different language...and I love it to pieces. What are you majoring in?!

EDIT-

Mostly Harmless: Wow. I'm glad you have such respect for music and the liberal arts. <3
I wound up with Geography and Urban Studies due to one of my other interests. I toyed around with English, CW, Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics, Anthropology, French, and Religion before I finally settled on that.

I don't know if it was the best decision, though. I can almost manufacture A's in the Philosophy department and that's where I hang around most of the time, but still...what good is a Philosophy degree without anything else?

Ohmygosh you sound as diverse as me. good stuff. :)

Unfortunately, Philosophy doesn't get you very far financially but I must say that I indulge in it practically daily...Nietzsche is my current read. :) One insane dude.

Urban Studies sounds fascinating, especially with the joined Geography major...any idea whatcha wanna do with that? :))

Urban Design--like architecture 'cept without the math. Or bluff my way through all the stat for good ole fashioned Urban Planning which is where the money is. With the GIS and Illustrator background, the possibilities are wide-open.

Nietzsche is really weird. Spinoza, if you can get past his method of presentation and look at the arguments themselves, has some really alluring metaphysics.

That's a relief to find out, I felt so pressured to immediately know what I wanted to do right after high school, that I constantly stressed out about it a lot.

Yeah, I didn't settle on a major until after I'd completed 3 semesters. Take the widest variety of courses you can and pick something you like.

Wowww I'm impressed. :) Are you graduating anytime soon? I've always been really impressed and intrigued with architecture cause of the symmetry (or sometimes lack thereof!)...talking about this and philosophy reminds me of the Fountainhead. If you want weird, go talk to Ayn Rand...she is the epitome of weird...hahaha :)

Spinoza is a pretty cool dude, plus the fact he shares roots with me...Judaism ftw! <3 :)

Haha, Rand is a laughingstock among serious philosophers :secret:

I spend a lot of time talking architecture, too. Doesn't hurt that my hometown has two of the most interesting firms in the nation right now. :ksmile:

Oh, and I'm halfway through my junior year right now, so not planning on graduating soon.

I got oodles of respect for music and respect for liberal arts.
But having respect for music in general doesn't mean that I have to have respect for specific categories within. I don't like Rap or Opera. So sue me.

As for liberal arts... I don't respect Psychology as a liberal art. I respect it when it's taken to the level of being a science, but not as an art. A lot of people take it for very flaky reasons.

As for Creative Writing... Erm... That sounds like a course on how to teach you to be yourself... Which sounds pretty hippy-dippy.
^_^

Anyways, I don't mean to be critical, I'ma just sharin'!

You know, I find it awfully sad that people don't appreciate the finer aspects of rap and classical music. Sure, I can see why people don't like either, and to be honest, I don't like much of rap either. But to point your finger at two large, broad genres and to disregard them is a bit silly. I completely understand, but being a musician I simply can't do it.

Psychology isn't an art. I simply put it in the Liberal Arts category because I think it's a lot more complicated than a science, and most colleges don't put it purely in the Science department. I come from a family of Psychologists and also, being an emotional person, have a huge reverence towards the subject.

Uh, what's wrong with being "hippy-dippy"? I mean, yeah, I'm pretty earth-crunchy, but I don't go prancing around meadows...often. ...
Most people cannot write an essay, let alone even begin to comprehend the intricacies of creative writing. Thanks to poetry, prose and short-stories, I've been able to ace every writing seminar thrown at me. (as for math? I'm kind of a loser at it. So I'm glad I have some skill in the arts area <33)

I'm glad you're so opinionated, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on all points. :)

Wait, Insomniac got banz0red? For what?

To be frank, he was being extremely rude to some people for the smallest things.

EDIT:

For those who are considering a major in Computer Science, I'm going to tell you this right now. Take a computer science class in high school, or computer science will be harder than it already is.

It starts out ridiculously hard (spend hours trying to make a good algorithm, fix bugs, etc) and gradually gets easier.

Fair enough, I suppose. Lol ^_^
Though I'm going to step out of this conversation, because all this talk of university and college is scaring me. Heh

Oh nonono I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you! <3 I just get so revved up about college. It's really not that bad, it's pretty wonderful!! :) I promise.

Internet: HELL YES. I know so many CS kids who dropped the major scared out of their pants...
