The fragments would continue to grow smaller as the suns heat started to melt them. The larger pieces would most likely get caught up in the Earth's gravity and hurtle through the atmosphere to the surface and cause destruction and chaos!
The world wouldn't necessarily be destroyed, but parts of it would. If the fragments are large enough, the might make it through the atmosphere. The fragments would then slam into the surface of the planet, destroying everything in front of them. Or, if the fragments are light enough, they would also make it through the atmosphere. And assuming those light fragments are made up of flammable gasses, they would explode, and toxic fumes would rain down on cities.
Not all of them. But if even one did, it could kill millions. As a result of that, you would be arrested and thrown into jail for life because all of that would be your fault.
