I have a recurring habit of mine: Writing things. Hypothetical game ideas, outlines for fanfics, sometimes actual serious attempts at writing the fanfics. I have another recurring habit of mine: Leaping between ideas on a dime whenever I get sufficiently bored. Now you too, dear Bulbagarden user, have the chance to follow along. Why would you do this? Lol I have no idea.

My Current Topic As Of Writing This OP is... Theorycrafting a Sun & Moon 2!
Here's what I've got so far:

-Two versions (Sun 2 and Moon 2)
-Hypothetical release date of 2026, stealth SM 10th anniversary tie-in the way Legends Arceus was a quiet celebration of DP’s 15th. In-universe timeskip would be the same
-Male player character’s default name is Jaci while female’s is Levana
-Elio is the Champion in S2 while Selene is the Champion in M2. They are also long-time reigning Champions of Mantine Surf (In gameplay terms this translates to it having brutal extra-hard records to beat)
-Of course grown-up Lillie and Hau are also in the game, and between these three each Alola starter is represented: Incineroar for the SM1 protags, Decidueye for Hau and Primarina for Lillie
-While Mantine Surf and other relevant USUM content additions are included, the game never directly references SM/USUM story divergences as to keep the question of which is “canon” as vague and up to interpretation as possible. For example, the Ultra Recon Squad may appear but in such a way as to never actually acknowledge the stuff they did in USUM
-10 years of standardization to be more like other regions’ League systems has resulted in Gyms being erected around Alola. That said, a conceited effort to keep a unique twist abiding with the region’s traditions has been made, with Gym Leader battles heavily resembling the Totem battles of old. All the Leader battles are doubles matches with their ace being sent out first with Totem boosts, the other team member(s) typically being built to support them. Kahunas are also still around as the final challenge after beating all the Gyms on an island
-A few unaltered later-generation Pokemon lines have been added to the Alola Pokedex. These include:
  • Greedent (Additional encounter for berry patches, typically a 50/50 with Crabrawler but can vary from place to place)
  • Orbeetle (Various grassy routes, typically early-game)
  • Grapploct (Various water routes)
  • Polteageist (Thrifty Megamart)
  • Grimmsnarl (Lush Jungle)
  • Falinks (Ancient Poni Path) (Idea by AlolanFigment)
  • Dracozolt/Arctozolt/Dracovish/Arctovish (Parts obtainable at Konikoni fossil store)
  • Oinkologne (Paniola Ranch)
  • Maushold (Various grassy routes)
  • Kilowattrel (Various seaside areas)
  • Grafaiai (Po Town and Route 17)
  • Annihilape, Dudunsparce & Kingambit (Previous forms already in the Alola Pokedex)
  • Baxcalibur (Mt. Lanakila)
  • Sinistcha (Malie Garden)
In general the dex for the main game would stick to being around the 400 number, I’m not willing to go real deep on how it would be reshuffled to accommodate these additions, you figure that out lol
-Alola Photo Club and Poke Pelago are much like how past remakes treated side features: More of the same but with visual glowups and various new bells and whistles, maybe some flashy renames like Super Alola Photo Club or Poke Pelago Plus. The most notable additions & changes are as follows:
  • Rather than using the menu sprites, Poke Pelago now has all the Pokemon placed in it physically walk around with interactions between themselves like conversations, chasing each other around, smaller Pokemon riding on the shoulders of bigger Pokemon, etc
  • Alola Photo Club has added commemorative backgrounds for transfers from other games:
    • SWSH: Wyndon Stadium
    • PLA: Same Spear Pillar background as DPPt/BDSP
    • SV: Area Zero Depths
    • Finally, for Pokemon transferred from the original SM/USUM you get a shot of Hau’oli City based on the one from the SM ending screen

-As of now I have no plans for adding new Pokemon/Alolan forms other than maybe a new mascot legendary. This is because the Alola dex is so good that I feel like there is no room for “necessary” expansions.
-Exclusive Z-Moves:
  • Alopersium Z: When used by an Alolan Persian with Nasty Plot, transforms it into Rapacious Royal Scheme: Raises user’s offenses by 3 stages and steals ALL stat boosts from other Pokemon on the field
  • Oricorium Z: When used by any form of Oricorio with Revelation Dance, transforms it into Waltz of the Four Nectars: 100 BP, hits 4 times with each hit being Electric, Psychic, Fire and Ghost respectively.
-Other Items:
  • Alpha Memory: When held by Silvally, changes the user’s type to the most optimal against the current foe upon using Multi-Attack.

-The game begins with the player and their mother moving into Po Town with Guzma and Plumeria welcoming them in. The town itself has long been fixed-up and reformed, what was once the Shady House now being the Funnybone Center For Troubled Youths. The town has a new theme that re-arranges sections of its SM1 incarnation to be much more cheery and upbeat: Think GSC Lavender Town VS the original
-After getting settled in and amidst the basic tutorials you get your starter at Nanu’s office, a job he’s kept despite not being Ula’Ula Kahuna anymore. He doesn’t have the classic trio on hand, however, instead giving you Alolan Meowth! For the uninitiated, this is based on that one USUM bonus scene
-Much like Aspertia City in BW2, Po Town is also the location of the new first gym, a Poison gym led by Guzma and Plumeria’s son (shipping discourse yippee). The gym itself consists of memorizing graffiti drawings and walking down one of a steadily increasing amount of hallways, making sure to get the one with the matching drawing. Get it right and you will proceed to the next of three rooms uninterrupted, screw up and you’ll have to battle a trainer. The Gym Leader uses Spinarak and Totem Mareanie (+1 to Special Defense), which doesn’t seem especially menacing until you realize the Spinarak has Toxic Thread to slow you down and Poison you so Mareanie can land Merciless-boosted attacks: If you dilly-daddle too much, you can get run through with shocking speed!
-After beating the first gym you go through Route 15 via a newly constructed bypass over the water: You can backtrack here later upon getting Lapras Paddle/Sharpedo Jet (Idea by AlolanFigment)
-Abandoned Thrifty Megamart is an optional location for you to add some Ghosts to your team. A sidequest lets you obtain the Ghostium Z here. (Idea by AlolanFigment)
-The Geothermal Plant at Blush Mountain is now a fully-fledged dungeon. You are given access to the grounds through a backdoor in the front lobby building, eventually reaching some doors that let you into the main buildings. What follows is a short trek up and down complexes of machinery of varying degrees of safety, throughout which you battle workers and scientists who dispense more trivia about just how flippin’ cool geothermal energy is. As I generally have no clue what the story of this game would be like I cannot say why you have to do all this: My first thought was a scenario where a small Pokemon or young trainer got stuck inside and you need to go valiantly save them.
-After this episode you proceed to Route 12, which entails Mudsdale Gallop being your first ride rather than Tauros Charge. Much like in the original games, a visiting Hapu is the one who gives it to you alongside a Ride Pager.
-Route 11 has Rowlet added as a 5% encounter
-Make it through the next two routes and you’ll arrive at Malie City, which contains two new points of interest.
  • In keeping with the original and this being a hypothetical 30th anniversary game, you meet the first of several new character cameos from past games here, in this case Eusine! You can find him at Malie Garden admiring the architecture evocative of his homeland. When talking to him about its accuracy a random NPC interrupts the conversation and goes “Hey, aren’t you the guy who desperately wants to catch Suicune?”, to which the magician responds that this was a long time ago and he’s long since given up that quaint old obsession, although he manages to sneak in a quip about how nice it would be if he happened to turn up in the garden’s pond one of these days. But that’s just a silly joke, he’s not delusional enough to actually expect that to happen, he can assure you, his travel backpack overflowing with Net Balls is just because he’s really gotten into fishing recently
  • The Kantonian Gym has been renovated into the actual second gym, a Flying gym headed by Kunu, a theater kid who’s always wearing an Enamorus-themed kabuki mask. The gym itself is a kabuki theater showing a performance about a farmer and his Pokemon having to deal with the seasonal antics of the Forces of Nature: You play the role of the farmer! Each of the play’s four scenes has you battle a costumed trainer, with Kunu himself being the last. His team consists of Ledian, Wattrel and Totem Dartrix: The former two Pokemon are both playing extensive support with dual screens and Tailwind respectively, don’t let them get out of hand!
-Following Kunu’s defeat and a ride to Hokulani Observatory you battle your first new Kahuna, Sophocles! Ula’ula’s last challenge pits you against Alolan Geodude, Electrike and Charjabug with Gigavolt Havoc.

-By walking around Seafolk Village you’ll soon find a small crowd gathered around the ferry to Exeggutor Island. Walk towards it and you’ll overhear a man talk about their strange encounter with a hooded figure who wouldn’t talk to them nor move from his spot. You can offer to investigate yourself, sending you to the island. Reach the end and you’ll see who they were talking about, and to your surprise they actually talk to you.
<Imagine the Enigmatic Man boss from Kingdom Hearts 1 here>
“...You. A spar.”
You betcha!
Uhh... Ok?
The ensuing battle pits you against two Pokemon, Alolan Vulpix and... Type: Null?! Things only get stranger upon your victory, which causes the figure to mutter under their breath that “You’re going to be a problem... another problem...” Before you can ask for elaboration, a small Ultra Wormhole opens up which the figure disappears through.
-What was once the Battle Tree is now Launui City, a settlement where each floor is carved into the tree itself, ascending higher and higher with the Gym being at the summit nestled at the center of the giant bunch of leaves. You travel between the four floors via a wooden lift. Among the NPCs you can talk to is a retired Furisode Girl from Laverre Gym who moved here because she felt right at home. The citizens will also talk with you about the Tree’s vaunted past, one of the floors even having a large painting within the bark containing abstract depictions of Red, Blue and other Battle Tree bosses.
-To the surprise of nobody, Launui Gym focuses on Grass types. The leader uses Shiinotic, Tropius and Totem Alolan Exeggutor.

-Right after getting your starter the entirety of Po Town is shaken by an explosion. Townspeople report seeing an Ultra Wormhole open up in the sky and something fire out of it at high speed, and sure enough going outside the town’s walls reveals that a large object has crashed at the top of the hill on Route 17, turning it into a crater
-Closer inspection reveals it to be a needle-shaped spacecraft, the front hatch opening up to reveal a boy around the player’s age in critical condition. They are immediately ferried to the Funnybone Center’s hospital wing for treatment and inspection. Other than the frayed and dirtied clothes they’re wearing their only other possessions are less than 2000 pokedollars and a Poke Ball containing their singular Pokemon, an Orange Core Minior in Sun 2 or a Violet Core variant in Moon 2
-The boy wakes up and after some prodding reveals their name to be Ka’iu. Very little other info is gained despite Guzma and the others trying their best to be accommodating and gentle, evidently whatever this otherworldly stranger went through has severely shaken him
-After a wash and patching up of their garments Ka’iu accompanies you throughout the remaining early-game tutorials, hanging back with Plumeria and holding her hand. He seems to get easily fixated on mundanities of nature - for instance after Guzma catches a Geodude in the capture tutorial he takes a moment simply to admire it, remarking that he’s never seen one outside of old books. He’s also pretty fidgety, often looking behind his back as if he’s scared that something is coming to get him
-After this the Po Town gang gives Ka’iu the offer to stay with the other kids at the Funnybone Center as long as he’d like, no questions asked; he can reveal more about his past if and when the day comes when he’s ready to talk. It seems the meek boy will take this offer until he along with the others watches your first gym battle. It is after witnessing the spectacle that Ka’iu reaches his final resolution, to become a trainer and tackle the Island Challenge just like you. Over the remainder of Ula’ula he settles into this role albeit under an overly romanticized ideal of the classic player-rival relationship that he learned from stories - for instance, the first battle with him comes right before you challenge Malie Gym, him choosing to do things this way because that’s what the tales said would-be champions and their rivals did. Fend off his Minior and a newly caught Elgyem and you may proceed

Alright, new additions! The basic conceit of Ula'ula is now finished with an extra sequence added to Poni. There's also a new section about major new battle additions. Here's the added text, which will also be edited into the OP:

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention the addition of Falinks to the Galar/Paldea Pokemon pool. Thanks to AlolanFigment for pointing out this critical oversight among other labeled contributions.

Another update! A smaller one this time, laying the groundwork for the main plotline! I DMed a few people about this prior and I am pleased to say I have completely changed the idea from the pitch I gave them. For reasons you'll see, Jaci and Levana are no longer strangers from an Ultra Wormhole.
