It will be RIDICULOUS if Clefairy doesn't become a Fairy-type Pokémon. I mean, its name says it: FAIRY. And I bet Noivern is going to have Soundproof and Levitate as its abilities.

Noivern is already a Flying/Dragon, why would it need Levitate?

Oh, really? I didn't know it was a Flying type. Forget my comment then. Still, I insist that I'd like Fairy to be immune to Dragon.

Why? You don't want Fairy-types to do their job too well, you know.

Being weak to the Ground-, Rock- and Water types, that is how. A lot of Pokémon are able to learn strong and useful Ground- and Rock-type moves like Stealth Rock/Rock Slide/Stone Edge/Earthquake. These are the most overused moves in the metagame. As I said, it isn't screwed up like Ice, but it still is a Glass Cannon type. The same applies to the Rock-type.[/FONT]

Also, Fire-types are pretty poor on the defensive stat side of things. Just look at the starters; they mostly specialise in offensive stats and speed.

And the few defensive Fire types we do have all suck.

What defines a fairy-type Pokemon?
How do we know a Pokemon is fairy by just looking at it like the other types?
I thought of abnormal creatures "Jigglypuff" and "Sylveon", Magical "Gardevoir"
Nothing about Marill screams fairy, its not abnormal in the Pokemon world and nothing about it is magical... though proto-art Marill was pink...?
Someone help me understand Marill's fairy type... so I can be in peace.
A lot of pokemon don't obviously fall into one of their types. Why is Geodude part ground. All it is is explicably a rock, apparently even more so than Roggenrola. We've got a pokemon called Slowpoke that seems pretty dimwitted, but it's a psychic type. Looking at it a number of gen I psychics don't seem particularly fit for the type by the looks of them. How are eggs and a palmtree psychic. Really, how are eggs grass types either. What makes Starmie psychic while Staryu isn't, the fact that its jewel is polygonal instead of hemispherical? It's in the fairy egg group like probably because it's a water expy of Pikachu and is some kinda small cutish thing.

So far we know 4 fairy types. It's not like we really know definitive traits of the type yet. Will we get Morgana le Fay dark witch fairy things? Or will they just be small cute mostly pink things? We don't know yet, and we won't for 4 months.

Yeah, I knew the part of poor overall Defense and HP and I mentioned Ground and Rock being common myself. I just think having 5 resistance put it a level better than Ice, that is also weak to omnipresent Rock e its crippling Stealth Rock. I've read many times people saying that Stealth Rock ruined Fire and Flying pokés a bit, well, not to mention the broken shard of glassy Ice.

The point is that even if we are to have Ice as a glass cannon, it could use some more resistances for the sake of its usability. If it is given another SE, people will just keep putting Ice Beam on Water pokémon.

It may be as simple as "we wanted a Water/Fairy type for balance purposes". Jellicent apparently gained its Ghost type for the same reason.

Lol, I always thought Exeggcute had got to be some mixture of eggs and coconuts. You don't always see eggs growing from a palmtree.

I believe that jellyfish body being 99% water could justify them being nearly incorporeous. And they are really eerie too. I think they turned out great choices for ghosts.

Only because Marill happens to be in the Fairy Egg Group and had a 2nd type slot empty. There's probably no other real reason.

Anybody thinks Pikachu family should be Electric/Fairy? This could make sense in X and Y.

I think Pikachu should stay Electric type. Not because of it's iconic status, but more to do with the fact I can't imagine Pikachu using Fairy Type moves like Fairywind or Moonblast, it doesn't seem to fit properly in my mind. Pikachu doesn't seem like a Fairy type at all to me. Pikachu is one of my favourite Pokemon, and in saying that, i hope Pikachu will be left how it is.

I disagree with you about this statement. This is because Pikachu, like Marill, is in the Fairy Egg Group, and has 2nd type slot being empty. This is why I want Pikachu to be part Fairy-type.

No...he's too iconic.

And how are you going to implement that in the anime?

First of all, Pikachu belongs to more than just the Fairy egg group.
Secondly, Plusle and Minun would be better fits. They're tinier and have more petite cries, somewhat resembling a fairy.

Not to mention it would actually give folks motivation to use them. Of all the Pikaclones, they're the weakest and least usable. And least distinctive. Emolga can fly and Pachirisu is tanky. Plusle and Minun are a Double-Battle that ends after one earthquake. Giving them the power to fling moons at dragons might actually make them somewhat relevant. Also, their theme of being helpful fits GF's vision of a Fairy-type better than Pikachu. Also, while Pikachu is just a squirrel with a zig-zag tail, Plusle and Minun look more indistinct and gooey, which gels with Marril and Jigglypuff.

There could be ways...

But given that Pika has been hit by Dragon type attacks before it'll be hard to bring up unless they add some plot element within Kalos that justifies why the little guy was the way he was until now.

EDIT: That said, I'll be mighty upset if the Clefairy family don't become fairy type.

Yeah, probably for gameplay purposes but if you want to justify it (though it's a bit of a stretch); Marill is fairy because Azumarill helps Pokemon stop drowning like a water guardian...Okay, its a life guard.

Everyone, tell all life guards you know that they are hence force Fairies. They'll love it.

I wouldn't say Pikachu definitely won't become part Fairy, I'm just hoping against it. I can't imagine Pikachu being part Fairy at all, it makes no sense in my head. I also do not believe they are going to retcon every Pokemon in the Fairy egg group to become part Fairy. They've retcon some and I'm sure they'll retcon others, but I don't believe they'll retcon every single one of them, plus Pikachu is in another egg group too, Pikachu isn't tied specifically to the Fairy Egg group. I also believe it's status will keep it from getting retconned, although there's still the possibility. I'm hoping Pikachu will stay pure electric.

My Rotom-S has air balloon. You can't ever be too careful! If only there was a way to get a foe to consistently use Gravity for a quadruple immunity...

I know this is kind of "So two pages ago," but regarding what is to become of the ice type, while I do hope it gets something done to its type matchups to help it along, even if it doesn't, I have a feeling it will get at least a little bit of a boost in this generation with many new and interesting ice type pokemon, maybe with useful type combinations, abilities, or better stats. The reason I suspect this is because a decently sized area of the Kalos region (two cities are shown in the map to be ice themed, rather than the usual one, or, hey, zero) has a wintery climate, so likely there will be a bunch of ice pokemon populating the areas surrounding it.

I agree with you that Pikachu family is gonna be retconned someday, but I disagree that Pikachu family should stay pure Electric-type. They also have 2nd type slot being empty. Being Electric/Fairy for all of Pikachu family also means Pichu or Raichu can even be strong against Dragon-types.
