The Fiery Beginnings

Hey guy's & girls
Back from my holiday, will hopefully finish the next chapter tonight :)

Chapter 5-

Rob paced his way straight down the road from Professor Oak’s laboratory, upon reaching the corner at the end of the path began to walk up the road. He knew, as most people did, that the direction straight from Pallet Town was north onto route one and then onto Viridian City. Unlike most trainers Rob already knew there was no point spending any time in Viridian, as the Gym had developed a special status over the years.

Previously it had been controlled by the ground specialist Giovanni, now better known as the leader of Team Rocket. During his time at Cinnabar Island Rob had met him a handful of times, always in the official capacity. It was also known amongst the gym leaders that Giovanni had long had a hand in the underworld. After his fall, the gym had fallen into direct control of the Pokémon League, which organised a leader for any trainer who had gathered seven other badges. Not even the other gym leaders knew who was sent to be the gym leader as it had become a rare occurrence, as trainers began looking for other and easier gyms to challenge.

Rob saw Route One as quite the waste of time, he knew his Houndour was strong enough to destroy any Pokémon he would find on the path and as for his Chimchar, it would have probably have made sense just to have a small test as to the power of the Pokémon. However as had been proven many of times previous, any Pokémon given out by Professor Oak was always going to be pretty special.

The route isn’t especially long, but if you got distracted by the idea of catching Pokémon you could spend hours, if not days, just battling weak and useless Pokémon, something which really didn’t interest Rob. His earlier doubt in his abilities had long since been extinguished with his now amazing record of trainer defeats.

As he continued up the route, he began to see more and more trainers he recognised from Oak’s invitational. All were taken in by the idea of being able to capture Pokémon, all of which would end up being released or sent home when they realised in a few days time that there were stronger Pokémon all over the world. These strangers would simply abandon their Pokémon and the sudden images of many hundreds of Pidgey’s and Rattata's being abandoned hit Rob very hard.

As these thoughts continued in his head, he began to walk faster, slowly getting more and more angrier, completely forgetting to take note of his surroundings, but it didn’t matter too much as he continued in a straight line as Viridian was directly north of Pallet town, he was going to end up there sooner or later, whether he walked on the path or not. The thoughts continued all around Rob’s head: “How could trainers possibly be so short sighted? All they were going to do was abandon their Pokémon. Did they not realise they were going to do so much harm to these Pokémon? Were they just so uneducated about these Pokémon that they were going to end up leaving them behind, when they realised they weren’t really what they wanted?”

Overall it was lucky Rob didn’t walk into the back of one these rookie trainers, as there was no doubt that if he had, he probably would have taken out all of his anger at that very moment. With so much misplaced anger, it wouldn’t really have ended well for that trainer, who most likely hadn’t done anything wrong, and there was no guarantee he or she would “abandon“their newly caught Pokémon.

Again all the swirling thoughts in Rob’s head had kept him busy on the walk, as before he knew it, he had entered the outskirts of Viridian city. Rob could see a large number of small houses lining the streets, with little in the way of commerce. On the outskirts the streets seemed almost deserted, but that wasn’t much of a surprise given the time of day. Rob then took something out of his pocket, it was a small rectangular object, just about able to fit into an adults hand, red & black in colour, almost designed to match him, it was of course as most people would notice as soon as it popped open a Pokédex. Studying his brand new Pokédex, it listed to him in a computerised voice that the major points of interests in the city were “Currently open- Pokémon Centre, Pokémart. Currently unavailable at this time- Viridian Gym, Viridian Pokémon contest, Trainer House, Pokémon Academy.”

Having not battled all along Route One, there was no need for Rob to enter the Pokémon Centre. He still had all the supplies he took with him en-route to Pallet Town, so he and his Pokémon should be safe for their journey to Pewter City. Everything that was closed was either no surprise or no concern of Rob’s, so he decided to continue on through to Viridian Forest, hoping to make it through to Pewter City in one day. Taking all of this into account, Viridian City, for all the good it did, might as well not even exist to Rob at this point in time.

Rob then used his Pokédex to take the quickest route through Viridian City, it turned out that it was basically straight through on the main street right to the other side of the city. Quite a short walk in all fairness, but with so much commotion it seemed a lot longer. People could be heard chanting from all directions, & were marching, in what seemed to be always in the opposite direction of whatever direction Rob himself was heading in, this however was purely coincidence Rob had no interest in what was causing the commotion after he heard it had something to do with co-ordinating. Rob found it distasteful to pay so much attention on people that simply didn’t have the ability to be a proper trainer, so went with making everything “look good”.

At the edge of the city was the Gym. Easily the largest building Rob had seen in the small city, although without seeing much of the city it was hard to be completely certain. He was planning on walking right past the gym, until he saw a familiar face attempting to get into the gym.

Switching between smashing at the door and attempting to pull and push on it, was the same small spiky haired kid he had beaten in the first round. Rob slowly walked close enough to look at the kid, as he tried to remember his name. It was at this point he finally saw the emblem on the white sports jacket was for Goldenrod radio tower; at that point he remembered that it was Ozil from Goldenrod City.

At this point Rob decided to talk up and save the kid further embarrassment. “What in the world do you think you’re doing kid? You do realise that the gym leader isn’t in?”

Ozil turned quickly but was clearly very startled by the fact Rob had interrupted him, to the extent that he nearly jumped out of his skin. Ozil took a second to notice the fact that it was Rob, the person who beat him and then mocked him in not just the first round, but the first match of Professor’s Oak tournament. He quickly put on a brave face, and basically did little less than shout his response at Rob, “Isn’t it obvious? I’m attempting to get a match with the gym leader! I’ve set myself up with a whole bunch of awesome Pokémon that will destroy him, if I could only get in!”

Rob began to laugh to himself. He thought everyone would have known to stop trying to get into the gym as soon as they found it was locked. Ozil however must have been trying for so long he had tired himself out.

“This gym isn’t occupied like all other gyms," Rob explained “only after obtaining seven other regional badges is this one available to you. So I don’t think you’re ever going to have to worry about this gym.”

For once Rob wasn’t sure whether he meant this statement or not, he certainly didn’t mean the tone. Ozil however certainly wasn’t a skilled trainer and whether he would collect one or two badges was something to consider.

Nonetheless the statement clearly and rightfully angered Ozil, who quickly reached for his Pokéball and shouted at the top of his lungs “Fine then! How about a battle, six on six?”

Rob first wanted to avoid a battle with Ozil, in an attempt to reach Pewter that day rather than the next. However, the moment insinuated the fact Ozil had gone out and caught five Pokémon quickly, and this made the angry thoughts of previous return to Rob. Ozil had gone out and caught all five of these Pokémon carelessly, so without any thought Rob just shouted back “Like I would need six to beat you.” Not taking into consideration the fact he only actually had two Pokémon.

Rob put little thought into his choice of Pokémon, as he was still beaming with over confidence, while still filled with anger. He quickly reached for Chimchar’s Pokéball, hoping this battle would give him a bit more experience in battle ready for the gym battles soon. “Go Dante!” Rob shouted at the top of his lungs.

Ozil quickly followed suit, shouting “Go Pidgey!”

Both Dante and Pidgey came straight out of their Pokéball’s in a flash of white light, both trainers locking onto the sight of their opponents brand new Pokémon, with Ozil being a lot more shocked than Rob. It was due to this shock that Rob managed to get in an early first shot “Ok Dante... Full strength! Use ember!”

Amazing thanks to "Some colour no doubt" for helping me with grammar
So tell me what you think guys

The thoughts continued all around Rob’s head: (possibly)
You need to remove the: (possibly). I left it in by accident when reading through lol.
Still, i like to see your open to suggestion without letting people change to core of your story! Keep it up!

Whoa! Rob's got serious anger issues.
OK, maybe not that serious, but you've done very well in explaining his character.
Great grammar, and overall, I loved the chapter! I can't wait till we get to the next battle!

Chapter 6-

Dante threw his head forward, as he fired hundreds of little flames all at the Pidgey who had received no commands whatsoever. Ozil was taken completely off guard, leaving his Pidgey to take the full force of the ember in mid-air.

After taking the hit, Pidgey looked as though it was completely knocked-out already; it began to plummet to the ground.

“Pull up Pidgey! “ Shouted Ozil.

Whether Pidgey was listening to its trainer, or if it was just performing what came naturally, it managed to pull back up, just before hitting the ground. During this time, the chimp Pokémon decided he wanted to celebrate, so began dancing around, while waving his arms in a Mexican wave type fashion.

Rob buried his head in his hands, trying to hide his embarrassment. He couldn't watch his Pokémon act in such a way.

“Pidgey use tackle!” Ozil screamed, finally managing to get a real order to his Pokémon.

The Pidgey did as ordered and began darting forward, heading straight at Dante. Rob had already pre-calculated such an attack from a weak Pokémon, so calmly ordered “Dodge it, and use scratch!”

Just as Pidgey was coming in close, Dante jumped forward much to the shock of both trainers. At the last second he put his hand forward, placing it onto Pidgey’s head, and flipping over the top of his opponent. Then just as it looked like Pidgey was going to sail straight past, Dante scratched the back of Pidgey, this time sending him straight into the ground.

At first Rob was incredibly amazed at the sheer athleticism displayed by his Pokémon, this however, soon changed. After his attack, Dante once again began to celebrate with a strange dance, extremely happy with himself. This time instead of burying himself away, Rob decided to stay on top and not risk losing anything. “Dante stay focused,” He yelled at his Pokémon, and then continued when he had gained Dante’s attention “If it looks like it’s getting up, destroy it with Ember”. Dante looked at his trainer and his happy looked changed to one of determination.

Just as it was looking as though Pidgey was about to get up, it collapsed straight back down to the ground.

Rob jeered at his opponent, “That’s what happens when an untrained Pokémon goes against a trained Pokémon. I might as well have battled wild Pokémon on Route One.” Rob said this, completely forgetting that he hadn’t trained his Dante at all, in fairness he had barely trained Arson, only what they had learnt during their battles, so he was in no real position to criticise, but as long as Ozil bought it, what did it matter?

Ozil was clearly frustrated with the way that battle went. As well as being clearly upset about it; he had fallen into the trap of many trainers of quantity over quality. Trying to hide the fact he was upset, he decided to quickly throw out his next Pokémon, without even putting in any thought over what he was doing. The Pokémon came straight out of the Pokéball. It was another Pidgey,

“Don’t tell me you have five Pidgey’s?” Rob responded sarcastically.

Ozil responded a lot quicker this time, acting as if he had something to prove to everyone that he hadn’t just wasted the last day, despite the fact that only he and Rob were there, as he shouted “Pidgey, Sand attack!”

Like before, this Pidgey responded without delay. Flapping it’s wings close to ground, a several large waves of sand come rushing towards Dante, leaving him both unable to see and Rob unable to see Dante. Rob started to panic as he was unable to think of a command that would do much good.

Just as he was feeling blank on answers, Ozil ordered again “Now Pidgey, use tackle!”

Pidgey again followed the orders exactly and dove straight into the sand which hadn’t yet settled, then only moments later, came straight back out the other side, as both parties waited to see what had happened.

Once the sand had cleared, Dante was lying flat on the ground. Rob was just about to return Dante, believing him to have been knocked out. Surprisingly, Dante rolled forward looking ready to battle. At first it just sat on the floor, looking up at the Pidgey, it then started smacking its hands on the floor, and seemed to be laughing at Pidgey. Pidgey was easily flustered and grew angry from this.

Nonetheless Ozil ordered his Pidgey once again “Sand-attack again Pidgey.”

However this time, the Pidgey did not follow its orders, and once again dove down straight towards Dante, looking like it was going to perform another tackle.

Just as it was getting in close Rob made an order himself “Dante ember.”

Chimchar obeyed without question, and with such a small distance away from the Pidgey the ember attack hit with almost none of the small flames missing the target. Being hit all over its tiny body, Pidgey was then blasted right back across the battlefield. Pidgey was knocked out easily by the blast.

Ozil was left completely puzzled with a broken look across his face “What... What happened?”

While Rob himself wasn’t completely sure, he had a reasonable idea and decided to use it to belittle Ozil once again “Dante used Taunt.” He explained quickly, and then continued “It only allows Pokémon to use attacking based moves, so when you ordered your Pidgey to use sand-attack, Pidgey decided just to attack.”

Ozil, still unsure about what had happened, returned his Pidgey. He then began to study his Pokéball’s; seeming unsure of what he should do next. He had lost two Pokémon and they only managed to cause minimal damage to Dante, who in turn learnt a move that took out any strategy he may have made previously. Very disheartened, he threw out his next Pokéball, quietly saying “Now you Rattata.”

Like most trainers, Rob had seen plenty of Rattata’s before. This one however was very docile. Normally Rattata’s were highly aggressive, especially on the battlefield. This one seemed to be mimicking the trainer, as it seemed to no longer care about its battle.

Rob began to feel sorry for Ozil, but wasn’t going to show it, and certainly wasn’t going to go easy. As such Rob commanded quickly “Dante end this, use ember.”

Dante lunged forward, firing out a full force of small flames. They hit all over the Rattata, yet the distance between the two limited the amount of damage a reasonable amount.

Rob decided to learn from this quickly, as he followed up as soon as Dante had finished his attack “Ok Dante, use ember on the run.”

Dante began to move forward at quite a pace, each time his paws hit the ground; he flung himself forward, firing out more and more flames each time. Dante must have done this several times, and towards the end he was so close and firing off so many of the flames that you could not see the Rattata buried underneath the raging inferno.

Dante stopped, far enough away so that if Rattata, by some miracle, was still capable of moving, wouldn't be able to get a surprise attack off. However this wasn’t a worry, as once all the flames and smoke had cleared Rattata had long since hit the ground. Ozil returned Rattata, still completely destroyed. He just stood there, looking towards the floor, unable to decide what to do next.

He was himself interrupted by Rob “Damn it, cheer up.” He barked towards his opponent, as he continued “Your Pokémon will have the same confidence you have, if you have none, how do you expect them to fight?”

Ozil stood there, still doing nothing, not even appearing to be thinking of what Pokémon he should be using next. All of a sudden he turned around, and very quietly replied to Rob’s question “I don’t...”

He then began to walk away from the battlefield, when suddenly from his waist a flash of light appeared. Right in front of where Ozil had previously been standing was Makuhita. It could be seen from a million miles away that he was angry. Clearly he wanted revenge from the tournament, and was prepared to stand up for his trainer.

Rob responded with yet another sarcastic comment “Guess we know which one of you has the backbone. Now are you going to get back into this fight, or is your Pokémon going to fight me by itself.”

Again major thanks to Some colour no doubt. Hope you guys all enjoy :)

Yeah! That's the stuff! I love how Rob seems to hate weak opponents, and the Makuhita wanting revenge. You really create a pokemon's character!
Excellent!
And, on a side note, this chapter came in on my birthday, so....thanks? lol.

Chapter 7-

Ozil clenched his fist almost exactly after Rob had finished talking and he quickly turned with a look on his face that seemed to be a mix of being drained of energy, but all the while slowly being filled with anger. He slowly walked back over to where he had previously been stood, dragging his feet along the ground. Rob stood patiently, soon gathering that the battle was in fact back on. He wanted to wait to see if Ozil’s battling style had in fact changed along with his attitude

Ozil looked up, staring straight at Rob. His drained face had now become nothing but anger. He seemed ready to unleash hell, something which was clearly imitated in his Makuhita. Rob couldn’t help but think to himself “Was it Makuhita drawing confidence from Ozil? Or was it in fact Ozil drawing from Makuhita?”

Rob’s trail of thought as usual had been interrupted by somebody; this time Ozil screaming out his orders.

“Makuhita get in close, Tackle!”

Makuhita needed no further encouragement, his anger made him seem as if he was moving twice as fast as he was in the battle with Arson. A fact which clearly caught Rob off guard, as he failed to give a command, leading to his first mistake of the match. The Guts Pokémon, easily over ten times the weight of Dante, seemed to knock Rob's Pokémon flying with absolute ease as he hit in to him.

Dante landed right at the feet of Rob. They looked at each other, dead straight into the eyes. This snapped Rob right out of his distracted state and re-focused him. Dante himself seemed ready to get back into the battle, as soon as Rob looked straight up at his opponent, Dante kipped-up onto his feet, staring at Makuhita.

“Ok Dante let’s keep the speed up. He can’t catch you if he can’t hurt you.” Rob calmly stated this to Dante then changed to a much more angry tone and chilling tone “And he won’t be able to catch you... Use Ember!”

Dante followed the orders and fired off an ember at his opponent. The attack did little damage due to the distance between the two Pokémon.

Ozil still seemed blinded by rage so didn’t seem to have much in the way of a strategy. He just barked orders at his Pokémon “Arm Thrust, Now!”

Rob smiled. He remembered this same technique from the previous battle. He couldn’t manage to hit Arson with this move, so Rob hoped Dante could show some amazing speed and not be hit as well. “Don’t let yourself be hit Dante” Rob almost sounded like he was pleading rather than ordering, none the less he continued “Get the opportunity hit him with an attack.”

As Makuhita came rushing in, he looked to smash Dante straight away with a high-impact move. As he threw the arm in, Dante seemed to just do a slow motion step back, leaving Makuhita to hit the floor. Dante used his chance jumping forward and straight at Makuhita’s face. He successfully landed a scratch straight along his opponents face.

Dante then seemed to use Makuhita’s face as a spring boarded as he went flying through the air. Makuhita then thrusted his arm upwards, Dante was caught slightly out of focus. The force wasn’t as much as expected as it was the tail end of the move, and more than anything else just seemed to send Dante flying full force into the air.

Dante was easily over 25 foot into the air and had begun to really panic, as it was completely unsure of what was going to happen next. It began to really panic, as Makuhita moved directly under where Dante was sure to land.

Ozil had begun to sneer, as he realised it might possibly be over, as he then decided “Prepare to hit him full force.”

As Makuhita had drawn his arm back, Rob himself sneered, and then calmly told Dante what to do “Use Ember, full force!”

At first Dante was overcome with fear and panic, but the calm words of his trainer made him push that into the back of his mind. As he fired off the ember, it slowed his rate of descent, allowing him to literally, completely and utterly shower Makuhita with flames. By the point that Dante had finished with his ember he had been firing so much that he had completely slowed down and landed quite gently.

Similar to before with Rattata, both trainers stood with anticipation. They waited for the smoke to clear so they could see how this had finished. The smoke cleared with Makuhita appearing to have taken almost no damage whatsoever. As he stood tall both trainers looked for the next plan.

Rob was the first to speak “Let’s cut that defence down” he stated, before giving his order “Get in close and scratch it up as much as possible.”

Ozil followed up with his own order “Don’t wait for him, Arm thrusts full power and full speed”.

Dante ran up to Makuhita at full speed, it seemed to take no time at all, but as soon as he was in range, Makuhita attempted to hit him with an arm thrust. Dante seemed to do a strange cart wheel type motion, as he simply seemed to go round the arm thrust. As he came down onto his feet, he spring boarded off the floor straight into the air.

Makuhita then attempted to use his other arm to hit Dante in mid-air, similar as he had done before. Dante almost seemed to expect it however as he grabbed onto the arm of Makuhita, and then used it to propel him with even more force into Makuhita’s face. However rather than just the one strike that hit nicely. Dante just kept scratching Makuhita’s face, hitting him five times straight in the face. Appearing to not to be a regular scratch, though it did not occur to Rob at this point, it was clearly fury swipes rather than multiple scratches.

Dante then attempted to once again use Makuhita’s face as a spring board. However this time rather than being hit into the air like before, he was just hit straight into the face, with what could be described as a really powerful arm thrust and once again sent flying.

Dante was again found himself kipping-up and once again was staring at his opponent. Makuhita still seemed to be showing no ill effects from any of the moves. Dante appeared to be getting angrier, something mirrored in his trainer. As Rob started clenching his fist, as he could not think of a plan to defeat Makuhita at this point.

While Rob was going over scenarios in his mind as quickly as he could, Dante looked as though he was about ready to boil over. He had lost his temper so much that he began to fire embers off all over the place, several of the flames landed close to Makuhita’s feet. Dante began smashing his arms onto the ground.

Both Rob and Ozil don’t know quite how to respond, even Makuhita was taken aback by the way Dante was acting. The little chimp Pokémon was far from the Pokémon it was at the beginning of the fight. As neither Dante nor Makuhita had received any orders, Dante took it upon himself to act out his aggressions.

Dante ran at Makuhita as he had done against Rattata and began shooting out loads of embers, hitting Makuhita constantly. It continued with Makuhita not sure what to do, almost looking at his trainer for some sort of guidance.

Ozil himself still not quite certain stuttered something resembling an order “Protect yourself Makuhita”.

Dante carried on getting closer and closer to Makuhita, until it got to the point where he is almost at point blank range and was still shooting out a large quantity of fire.

Rob finally snapped out of his state of bewilderment, and finally gave an order to the enraged Dante “Don’t stop now... Scratch him out of this fight”. Deciding to take advantage of the Pokémon’s range rather than try to control it.

Dante jumped up onto Makuhita, and then began clawing away at the body and face of Makuhita. He could be seen to be really tearing away at Makuhita while they both disappear into the smoke.

As the smoke cleared, Makuhita could be seen on the floor, clearly knocked-out, while the previously angry Dante, had once again reverted. Once again he was the same happy Pokémon he was before. He began to do the same random dance he was doing before waving his arms and stamping his feet, with a huge smile on his face.

However, all of a sudden Dante collapsed into a heap right where he was dancing. The enragement had clearly taken a toll on him, as it was clearly just plain exhaustion.

Both trainers withdrew their respective Pokémon, while Ozil was clearly looking at his two Pokéball’s to decide which Pokémon he would use next. This was obviously an easy choice for Rob, as he only had Arson left anyway, but rather than go for that Pokéball, he was just staring at Dante’s Pokéball.

Anyone near enough by would have been able to hear Rob quietly speaking to himself “I’m so sorry Dante.” He repeated this to himself so many times, while his thought once again began to wander “I should have stopped you... Why was I so careless? What if I have actually hurt Dante?” These thoughts just kept swirling around his mind, while he promised both Dante and himself that it wouldn’t happen again.

He noticed Ozil was looking at him, and Rob automatically went on the defensive (or offensive as far as anyone else would be able to tell), so he would not appear weak to his opposition.

“Well would you look at that...” Rob said sarcastically, with a massive forced grin on his face, especially as he continued “I took out four of your Pokémon, with just one of mine. Including your strongest, all the while my strongest is waiting to destroy more of your weaklings”.

Both Ozil and Rob then threw out their Pokéball’s at the same time. Both of them looking to speed up the pace of the match; Ozil due to the huge amount of anger running through his system, while Rob was looking to get Dante to the Pokémon centre to check on his Pokémon.

Again special thanks to "Some colour no doubt". Hope everyone who reads this enjoys it... Maybe by next autumn i might be up for some award

I love this. The first person tense adds something to that is allbeit strange, but gives a new look on it too. I approve and crave more; also I envy your writing skills to write that much. Dx I can never pull out a chapter section thingerma-bob that long. Mehr.

I kind of cut off when i'm writing. I try to aim between 1000-2000 words (ussually land right near 1500). Otherwise i feel people look at it, & unless they really want to read it, they don't bother.

& don't envy my writing skills, i've had a lot of help.

Sorry is been so long anyone who was reading this
I was waiting for a grammar check
Then i got caught up in moving to uni

Hopefully i'll be able to start getting more bits done in my frees now the party atmosphere is lifting

Magnus, if your hand is better, & if your not to busy can you help me with grammar checks?

Chapter 8

Rob’s mind did not need any more focusing; he wanted and needed to win this battle as fast as possible. In that brief moment Rob looked into the white light of Ozil’s Pokémon in front of him, and suddenly he was surrounded by thoughts about what the Pokémon could be “Was it a Pokémon from Route One? Had Ozil previously caught a Pokémon in Johto? If it was a Pokémon as tough as his Makuhita, could Arson win? What if he starts the battle with the type disadvantage?”

His mind was put to rest soon however, as the Pokémon he saw in front of him was a Nidoran♂. He didn’t hold the advantage in terms of type, but neither did Ozil. Hopefully the experience difference would play into the hands of Rob.

“Nidoran, Distance yourself with poison sting” Ozil ordered his small Pokémon, seeming to have calmed down slightly, and taking one of the techniques Rob has used against him before.

Nidoran♂ used the technique straight away as instructed, as the horn on his head began to glow white, as the small Pokémon opened his mouth and fired out dozens of small purple darts straight at Arson.

“Defend yourself Arson!” Rob seemed to raise his voice for the sense of urgency, which he got even louder as he continued “Use ember back!”

With all the darts flying at his head, it could have been forgiven that the young Pokémon might have froze, but with his own confidence so high, no such thing happened with Arson. He followed the orders precisely, and fired back a strong ember. The two attacks seemed evenly matched as they exploded into a small amount of smoke.

“Navigate the smoke & use fire fang on Nidoran” Rob said this as he himself tried to see if there was a route through the smoke, but he was certain that if he couldn’t see Ozil, or Nidoran♂, then they couldn’t see Arson.

Arson dashed straight into the smoke; being a fire-type he held a natural ability to navigate smoke and fire with more ease than most Pokémon. So in the smoke, he might be able to get a quick knock-out blow on Nidoran♂.

When the smoke cleared, both trainers were left with an unexpected sight. Nidoran♂ was standing, with its back hunched, growling, at a downed Arson. Both trainers stood in bewilderment of the sight, while the Nidoran♂ seemed to be gaining in ferocity.

If the time had been there to think about it, Rob would have explained that Nidoran♂ had used its superior ability of hearing to be able to find the approaching Arson, and take him out with a pre-emptive attack.

“Uh... Use tackle Nidoran” Ozil ordered his Pokémon with a shaken voice, caused by the confusion over the whole incident.

Nidoran♂ started his run up quickly, and was shown to have amazing acceleration, as he was quickly up to a speed which could cause a lot of damage. Not adding into the fact that it lowered its head to make sure the horn caused as much damage as possible.

Rob sneered as he thought of an idea, as he gave his Pokémon an order “Use bite now”.

Suddenly the previously quite “badly injured” Arson, turned his head straight at the incoming Nidoran♂. Then just at the last moment, Arson caught Nidoran♂ with a bite, grabbing onto the top of his head, at the base of the small Pokémon’s horn.

Despite the two Pokémon being of a similar size in terms of mass, the stockier Nidoran♂, found itself in trouble as soon as it was caught, as Houndour lifted him in the air, continually applying more pressure on his grasp. Nidoran♂’s little legs almost looked comical as they ran in mid-air, unable to get any grip or power.

“Switch to fire fang” Rob said this with a calculating tone to his voice, as he continued to smile.

Suddenly Arson’s teeth suddenly got surrounded by fire, as he loosens his grip slightly, only to re-tighten it again almost immediately. Nidoran♂ let out what was more of a high pitch squeal that could penetrate anyone, and would probably travel all the way to Pallet Town.

Nidoran♂ fell to the floor, Ozil first of all smiled. He thought along with Rob that the squeal Nidoran♂ gave off, had forced Arson to drop him, due to sheer pain of the noise.

The smile soon dropped, and changed to a frown on Ozil’s face. As Ozil noticed that Nidoran♂ was missing his horn, while Arson seemed to be chewing on something. Rob tried to hide the fact he was feeling guilty about the situation by quickly following up with a different attack.

“Use ember... Full power... Close range” Rob said this order quickly, now he had two reasons to end this battle quickly, he couldn’t stand to look at the Pokémon he had injured, as well as wanting to get Dante to the Pokémon centre.

Arson in complete loyalty did not object in the slightest to attacking the dazed and now deformed Pokémon. Firing off such a powerful ember, at such close range, it was hard to tell that it was actually dozens of small flames as opposed to just one powerful rush of flame.

The Nidoran♂ was completely engulfed in the flames, and then could been seen collapsing half way through the attack, this lead to even more distress for Rob.

“For god sake withdraw your Pokémon!” Rob yelled directly at Ozil, this time not even trying to hide his weakness, just wanting to stop any injury. Rob knew that Arson would be unable to stop his attack at such short notice.

Ozil could be seen to bungling his Pokéball as he rushes to withdraw his Pokémon from the battle. He does manage it reasonably quickly, much sooner than what Arson would have been able to stop the attack.

“Last Pokémon then, let’s get this over with quickly” Anyone would have been able to hear the sarcasm in Rob’s voice. Rob was clearly trying to cover up what just happened. Both the distress of hurting Nidoran♂ and then the weakness he believed he showed to Ozil.

“Fine then!” Ozil shouted out, in a strange attempt to now not show weakness.

Ozil rushed to his last Pokéball, throwing it out as quickly as possible. Rob’s mind was once again filled with the same thoughts as he had before. His mind filled with the types of Pokémon that could possibly come out, and how they could quite easily knock Arson out quickly.

As the flash of light dissipated, Rob could breathe slightly easier. Standing before him was very similar to that what he had already fought, only slightly different in colour and stature. Nidoran♀, the slightly less physical but more poisonous version of her counterpart.

Rob smiled when he saw this, having noted something early in his battle with Nidoran♂, something he thought he should test quite early on. So he allowed Ozil to make an attack.

He did not need to wait long as Ozil made almost an immediate order “Scratch quickly Nidoran”.

Nidoran went flying into Arson at full speed, she was slightly slower than Nidoran♂, but nonetheless Rob was quite impressed by her turn of speed. Nidoran♀’s claws glistened as she jumped into the air near Arson in order to land an attack on him.

Without orders, Arson stood still and just braced to take the hit, surprisingly the attack seemed to do little damage, with Arson seeming completely unfazed. This happened much the shock of Ozil, while Rob seemed weirdly delighted by the situation.

“Wha... What?” Ozil looked still completely puzzled by the situation “My other Nidoran seemed to do so much damage with just a tackle, scratch was hit perfectly.”

“You should learn more about your Pokémon...” Rob replied attempting once again to talk down to his young opponent “Both your Nidoran have the ability rivalry, it helped your first, but hindered your second. So not only do you catch your Pokémon with absolutely no consideration, you battle like that as well.”

Rob could see Ozil’s rage building once again, he felt bad due to enjoyment he was taking from the destruction of his opponent, both physically and mentally. Worse yet, he had forgotten that he wanted to win this match quickly, to get Dante to the Pokémon centre.

“Arson fire fang” ordered Rob, with the hope of proving more dominance over his opposition.

Arson happy to get this order, after having taken an attack for no real reason, his teeth once again get surrounded by fire, as he quickly grips Nidoran♀ around the waist area. He doesn’t need to lift this one as she is clearly weaker to begin with than her counter-part, as she falls to stomach.

Arson quickly lets go this time, believing to have beaten Nidoran♀ quite easily. Then Arson, through sheer overconfidence, does the biggest mistake of all by actually looking away from his opponent.

“Double-kick quickly” Ozil seemed to actually seemed more to have begged more than ordered this time around, hoping she wasn’t knocked-out.

Of course she had been playing possum to get the attack finished early; she suddenly jumped clean into the air, catching Arson with one kick straight to the head, then flipping round in mid-air to catch him once again, performing the Double-Kick to perfection.

Arson was left knocked to the floor. Rob knew the attack would cause significant damage due to it being a fighting type attack, even with the downside to the ability in effect, another good hit like that, could possibly end the battle.

“Don’t let up the assault... Scratch!” Ozil now back to ordering had grown in confidence from catching Rob off guard.

Nidoran♀ came running once again, this time she seemed to be moving faster than her counterpart possibly due confidence growth herself. Rob simply seeing it, reminded himself once again of previous in the battle.

“Ember when in close!” Rob yelled at Arson, possibly hoping that somehow the raise in volume would help him recover that little bit quicker, and be ready for the attack.

Nidoran♀ once again jumped straight up in the air when in close, claws completely extended mimicking what had been seen at the start of the battle. Only this time, she was caught in mid-air, as she was hit with the ember while flying towards Arson. The little flames coming out with such strength, in such great numbers seemed to keep Nidoran♀ elevated for what seemed like ages.

When the attack ended, Nidoran♀ could be seen hitting the floor with a rather hard thud, completely out of the battle. This obviously caused much disappointment to Ozil.

He slowly walked up to his downed Pokémon, not daring to catch the eyes of Rob. As he got to his Pokémon, he knelt down by her side. Rob could tell he was whispering something similar to what he must have said to Dante. At this point Rob was torn as to whether to leave him be, or to lay into him once again.

He went over the battle in his mind, and felt he had shown too many moments of “weakness”, and didn’t want any sort of word like that to actually make it out. So decided he should say something to prove himself better than anyone else.

Rob began to run down Ozil as he walked up to him “You caught the first five Pokémon you saw... & didn’t train them.” You could feel Rob breaking for dramatic tension.

As the run down continued “You failed to train any of them... including your main Pokémon.” Again with each part this dramatic pause could be felt digging into Ozil.

Rob was at this point basically right behind Ozil as he continued “You failed your Pokémon as a trainer... and you failed trainers by your actions.”

Rob began to walk off, again left contemplating what he had just said. Thinking about what Oak had said, maybe he should have thought this through a little bit better; nonetheless it was too late now.

Just as he was about to walk right out of reach of Ozil, he heard to young boys voice “I will beat you.”

Rob turned and saw the trainers, standing, having returned his Nidoran♀; he was almost looking aggressive towards Rob ready to defend himself and his Pokémon from Rob’s criticisms.

As Rob was about to re-confirm all he had said, Ozil decided to interrupt “You may have a few years on me, but that will soon change, and I will be better than you.”

“You may criticize my lack of training...” Ozil stuttered, obviously about ready to say something he thought he might regret, “But I criticize your training in general, not to mention your battling style, you are vicious and your Pokémon will end up like you... Drained of all but bad emotions.”

Rob was about ready to lose his temper with the trainer, something he certainly didn’t want to do, when it suddenly dawned on him about Dante, so felt it was better just to leave it be. Rob simply turned around, and decided just to walk back to the Pokémon centre, and get ready to head to Pewter tomorrow.

“Keep on dreaming kid” Rob decided to say this just as he turned the corner, despite knowing it was not necessary at this stage, some part of him couldn’t resist the urge.

Chapter 9-

Waking up early in the morning, Rob had late in the night had his fears put to rest, as Dante had only suffered from exhaustion from the battle with Ozil, particularly Makuhita, due to this his recovery time was only that one night.

Despite not being in any major rush to get going, Rob knew that there was in fact a pace to keep up; with the sooner he got through Viridian Forest, the sooner he could get to Pewter, and start on his Kanto league journey.

Due to this he decided just to stroll up through route 2, and take a relaxed attitude to going through the forest. He also secretly hoped that he wouldn’t have to waste time on the local bug catchers which were known to frequent both near and in the forest, as they wouldn’t pose any threat to either Arson or Dante to be suitable training opponents compared to what he would face at Pewter.

Having been up most of the night, Rob had time to consult his Pokédex as to the Pokémon found both on Route 2 and in Viridian Forest. He had come to three separate conclusions, the first was that there were no Pokémon available here that would be of anymore use in a rock type gym than his fire-types. Secondly was that there was only one Pokémon potentially useful at all to catch, this was Pikachu, this was due to the fact that as an electric-type it would take away the biggest threat to his fire-types, however he doubted that a Pikachu would be of any real use as no serious trainer would choose it above more powerful electric-types. Lastly was that rumours had that some Pokémon foreign to the region had been spotted in the area, and secretly he hoped he could spot them to repay Professor Oak.

As per usual however Rob had been completely lost in his own thoughts, and not only had he managed to walk clear across Viridian City, but he had also managed to walk through the majority of Route 2. Looking around at his surroundings, there wasn’t much that could be said about this area, it was a near perfectly straight road, with medium length grass on either side. Rob could hear noises coming from the grass, but he wasn’t about ready to go crawling around for the next couple of hours just to keep find a whole bunch of Weedle’s. However it was what stood in front of him that was most impressive; Viridian Forest, it was lined with trees taller than most buildings, and so thick that if it wasn’t for the path leading straight into the forest, he would have struggled to of found the entrance. Rob still was not to daunted, knowing the forest to be mostly filled with Bug-Pokémon, and a few unthreatening Flying-types he held a distinct advantage, not to mention the trail of destruction which would have been left by all the trainers from Oak’s Lab yesterday.

Walking through the forest, Rob like most other people surely just found themselves darting from one break in the canopy to the next, as this was the only actual way to see where you were going. Many times Rob found himself having to go off the path, just because it was getting so dark he dared not keep on it.

However this was his own downfall as he quickly became lost in amongst the trees, and what seemed to be a never ending maze of paths. To make matters worse, the forest was so full of some sort of scent that he couldn’t even use Arson to attempt to navigate with his sense of smell. This linked with the thickness of the trees and canopy which meant Chimchar wouldn’t be able to guide from above.

Rob was certainly not the person to be defeatist in a situation like this, leaving so early in the morning left him with a lot of time to be lost in the forest, before he had to worry about night setting in, so the best thing to do was to keep wandering in the hopes of finding either the entrance or exit, or one of the bug catchers he had previously hoped to avoid.

For what felt like hours Rob searched the forest for any signs that he might potentially be heading in the right direction, however for all he knew he really could have been walking in one massive circle, or worse yet, if the exit was much like the entrance, he might have even passed it, and not of been able to see it as an exit.

However the shroud of negativity soon escaped him as he heard voices up ahead, making sure to approach with caution so that he wouldn’t startle anyone, and more importantly to make sure no-one would think that he was actually quite desperate for help. It was on turning the corner attempting to look confident that he couldn’t believe his eyes.

Before him stood five men, four of them looking in their late 20’s, wearing black trousers, waistcoats and ties, with a white shirt, topped off with a black and white trilby. The fifth man looking around his mid-20’s possibly younger, topped off a similar outfit with a black jacket and trench coat. To look at them Rob thought he was staring straight into a bad movie.

However it wasn’t just their taste in clothing which shocked Rob, but also and more importantly what they were doing, two of the men were commanding Pokémon that Rob had never seen before, to attack swarms upon swarms of Beedrill. While the other two were throwing Pokéball’s, to which they encountered little resistance, so were easily catching as many as they could throw in a minute. While the last guy seemed to be on some sort of radio, but Rob couldn’t make out what was being said.

Rob darted back around the corner, to avoid being spotted, and to attempt to assess the situation. Firstly he had to know the Pokémon, so decided to use the Pokédex to identify all four.

First pointing at a crescent moon shaped Pokémon, to which the Pokédex responded “Lunatone. The Meteorite Pokémon. Its health ebbs and flows with the lunar cycle. It brims with power when exposed to the light of the full moon.”

Secondly he pointed at a Pokémon which looked like a star of some description “Solrock. The Meteorite Pokémon. It absorbs solar energy during the day. Always expressionless, it can sense what its foe is thinking.” He took the assumption that these Pokémon were likely to come in a pair, as they seemed to be working together.

The third Pokémon, made him glad that he had a Pokédex, as he wouldn’t have even been able to describe to someone what it looked like, the Pokédex told him “Metang. The Iron Claw Pokémon. It floats midair using magnetism. Its body is so tough, even a crash with a jet plane won't leave a scratch.” Rob came to conclusion quickly that not only were these Pokémon obviously powerful, but quite rare as well, and should be even more cautious.

The last Pokémon was not directly involved in the fighting, but perched on the shoulder, of the person who you could only describe as a supervisor, it seemed to be something of an evil looking Pidgey, but the Pokédex revealed “Murkrow. The Darkness Pokémon. It is said that when chased, it lures its attacker onto dark mountain trails where the foe will get lost.” Not as rare or as powerful as the other Pokémon in use here, and one on one Rob might have given it ago, but these odds were really not in his favour.

Rob decides to try using a different path through the forest, after all why risk a confrontation, when you may be on the wrong path anyway. Plus getting out he could give some of this information to the Officer Jenny in either Pewter or Viridian whichever end he ended up on.

However when Rob went to stand up, he didn’t notice a small twig on the floor, which is understandable due to the forest floor being covered in them, however the snap quickly alerted, the men from the other side of the corner, as three of them came rushing, bringing along Metang with them.

The leader of the group was stood right in front of Rob, he stared straight at him. Rob was unsure of how to react, luckily the decision was made for him by the leader of the group, “Looks like we have another lost trainer boys. Do you need help getting out?”

Rob was of course reluctant to agree to help from these people, for two obvious reasons, one being he didn’t know if they were sincere, and secondly as he just didn’t want to be involved with them. Nonetheless if accepting help from them would get him away any quicker and out of this dangerous situation, it might be a good idea “Yeah, these paths seem to go all over the place, I just don’t know where I’m actually suppose to be heading.”

The other guy responded quite happily as if he didn’t want any form of fuss whatsoever as well “You just need to head back the way you came, and take the first left, you’ll find yourself onto a main path, which will lead you straight towards Pewter.”

Rob began to become overcome with emotions, he knew that on some level he should thank the man for helping him out, but the more he looked at his smug face the more he wanted to stand up and say what they were doing was wrong. So he thought it would simpler just feint a thank you gesture and slowly walk away.

Rob wouldn’t ever know what triggered it, but after only taking couple steps, he decided that he actually did need to say something, once again leaping before looking. Even though in this case he looked and saw he wouldn’t make the jump and decided to leap anyway. “Do you know what your doing is wrong?” he turned and asked with a puzzled look on his face.

The three men also quickly turned around, this time one of the other men stepped slightly forward and his Metang moved even further forward still, and with quite a gruff and almost military sounding voice he asked “Vince sir, should I deal with this trouble maker.”

Rob slowly reached down for his Pokéball’s, hoping that on some level he might actually of been capable of wearing the opponent down on some level, or even the fight might attract some help, however before he could, the original person is charge(presumably Vince) decided to step in. “No. Now get back to work” as he ushered to the two others to head back to the Beedrill.

“Listen kid, we’re performing a service to the good people who use this forest. Do you know the number of people senselessly attacked while walking though this forest, there have even been fears they might attack Pewter or Viridian City at some point.” He said, expecting Rob, and seemed to almost believe it himself, before he continued “And if we decide to sell them on, then that’s just our way of paying for the inconvenience of performing a public service. Now I suggest you get back on your way, as we both know that if you could beat us, you already would have, so don’t hurt yourself or your Pokémon.”

Rob still felt the need to fight, and defend the Pokémon, but as he thought about it, it was true there wasn’t really a way he could win this fight. That and remembering the words that Officer Jenny back on Cinnabar had told him “Sometimes you just need to pick your battles better”. He knew it was one of those times where he really should just walk away.

Ok people this is my first creative writing in a while (Feels like forever)
& the first one i've wrote without getting my grammer checked in even longer
So i'm looking for feedback, both grammatical and the story itself

Chapter 10

As Rob walked away from Vince, it wasn’t more than a few steps before he began to feel sick for how much of a coward he had been. He began to think hoping to take his mind of what had happened but he just couldn’t get it out of his head.

“Sure it was the smart choice,” he thought to himself “And I know Jenny and Blaine would be pleased that I finally learnt to pick my battles better. But what those guys are doing is completely wrong.”

He then perked up a bit as new more positive thoughts began to hit him “If I get out of the forest quickly I can tell the Officer Jenny in Pewter what’s going on, and then she’ll be able to do something.” Then he was again feeling sick to his stomach as his thoughts changed again “If I had battled I would have certainly lost against those clearly stronger Pokémon, and there would have been no-one to save me or the Beedrill after that”

Rob managed to keep up his speed, which was a closer pace to a run rather than a walk, as he turned more and more corners, attempting to find the exit, completely blanking how Vince had told him to get out; consciously forgetting it, sub-consciously perhaps not trusting Vince enough to listen.

He finally saw a sign pointing towards a narrow path reading “Pewter City.” He breathed a heavy sigh of relief, followed by several deep breaths as he finally took the time to recover, he wasn’t sure how long it had been since he saw Vince and his gang. He just hoped that he would still have time to get Jenny and her officers into the forest and catch them.

Just as he was about to head out of the forest, all he could hear was a sudden high pitch buzzing sound. He recognised it instantly as the sound he had heard earlier belonging to the Beedrill. Maybe he wasn’t as far away from Vince as he thought, but then why was he only just hearing them now. All this time he spent pondering, he really should have been moving, a fact he realised a mere moment later, when what could have hundreds of Beedrill in the mind of Rob, just came flying out of the trees and bushes. In reality it was certainly a large swarm of 60 maybe 70, but Rob’s head in a state of shock had clearly played a trick on him.

Along with the exaggeration, his shock had stopped him from calling out either Dante or Arson. Something he regretted as the Beedrill saw him as an enemy. They had come flying at him, at first he thought they were just going to hit into him, but then they came at hi with their stingers, which glowed purple, he knew they were going to try poison sting. He had just enough thought in him to dive down and avoid the attack, but still lacked the cognitive function to actually throw out one of his Pokémon to defend himself.

As the Beedrill turn, Rob notices that he has actually been surrounded by the Pokémon on all sides, and with the shock effecting him, he starts to assume that all the Beedrill in Viridian Forest have surrounded him for revenge for what people do to them. In reality the number hasn’t increased at all, but there would be no way for Rob to tell that.

The same Beedrill as before were coming back in for the attack, but again Rob was not aware of this, still getting his senses back together. This time however they are coming in with their front stingers, if Rob was all together he would have known it was the Twineedle attack. This however they were coming in at a different angle, there would be no avoiding it.

Rob had just enough thought to lift his arms over his face, after a couple of a seconds however, he still wasn’t stung, and even though he felt that time had slowed, he knew it couldn’t of that much. Removing his arms from his face, he saw that there was a small number of Beedrill set in a line twitching.

Rob looked around in shock, on either side of him was Arson and Dante, they had sensed their trainer in danger and jumped out of their Pokéball’s to defend him. Rob was still in too much of a state of shock, to give any orders. However the Pokémon knew their jobs, and acted accordingly. Every time a Beedrill comes to close, which was practically it just moved at all, then the nearer of the two Pokémon would fire a burst of small flames, performing ember at it.

What felt like a lifetime, but was actually just over a few seconds, Rob managed to compose himself enough to get off the floor, and actually attempt to take command of the situation. This was a futile attempt however as there was nothing he could do about it. If anything, standing up made the situation worse, as the Beedrill began to come forward in larger groups.

At first it looked like they were still being successful, but all it took was one. One Beedrill managed to dodge Arsons ember, and came flying forward, hitting him with his powerful Twineedle, knocking him off his stride, leading to a larger group swarming upon him. All of them hitting their Twineedle attack on him, repetitively stinging him with their stingers, and with Dante having to maintain his own defence on the other side; Rob began to act out of panic.

Jumping forward at his Pokémon, still swarmed by the Poison Bee Pokémon, Rob swings his arms at the Beedrill, knocking several of them away, just enough to clear a path to his Pokémon. He then dived onto his downed Pokémon, protecting him from anymore abuse.

On the other side of the battle, Dante was managing to hold his own against the Beedrill. Then in a short break, he finally managed to look what was going on with Arson and Rob. Seeing that his fellow Pokémon and trainer were now in immense danger, something triggered inside the Chimp Pokémon. A combination of the want to protect his trainer, and just the sheer tiredness caused by this brief battle caused Dante to become covered in a red aura along with the fire on his backside suddenly becoming a lot bigger.

Throughout the entire time that Rob was pinned onto Arson, he was being constantly stung all over his body. So when the attacks stopped and he felt a scorch of heat over his back, he quickly assumed someone else had seen what was going on and helped, judging from the fact they were right by the exit, this was not an unreasonable assumption. However when he turned around, he saw his Pokémon, glowing red and firing off embers which where the “small” flames were so large and they were coming so thick and fast, that to the casual eye it could have been quite easily of been a flamethrower rather than a simple ember. In either case it was absolutely destroying all the Beedrill, he wasn’t even casually aiming he was just firing at every Pokémon that moved.

When the red aura finally died down around his Dante, Rob slowly stood up staring at his Pokémon. Before noticing the fainted Beedrill lying all around them, his eyes surveyed the carnage which had been laid here, before finally turn and seeing his Arson still lying on the ground, not moving or even twitching. He was again in a state of shock and panic began to take over his body.

He quickly returned both of his Pokémon, forgetting in his rush to thank his Dante for all that he had done. Something he’d surely do later when his mind wasn’t on more pressing matters. Right now it was incredibly important to get to the Pewter city Pokémon centre as soon as possible.

Rob holding Arsons Pokémon ball, ran out the exit of the forest, if he had actually cared so much, he would have realised the amount of light that was still out this late in the afternoon, and how much light really is blocked by the canopy of the trees. However none of this mattered at all, instead of the normally calm and relaxed person, you had a really anxious and obviously flustered young man, now sprinting full speed toward Pewter city, which was luckily only a short path, and had nearly no-one on it, as they would likely be run over by the worried trainer.

Arriving on the outskirts of the city, which looked slightly smaller than Viridian, Rob saw that all the buildings looked quite old, and all built out of heavy stone, obviously built to last, or as part of the legacy to the Pewter gym, either way there was no time to marvel. Still rushing he didn’t even bother to get out his Pokétch to check where the Pokémon centre was, he simply ran like the world was coming to an end right behind him.

He in the end got lucky and ended up running down a street where he could see the Pokémon centre right at the end of the road. He managed a last ditch turn of speed, which even he didn’t even know he had in him, as he continued down the road towards the centre.

Running full speed through the door he shocked the Nurse Joy who was attending, as all she could see was a heavily breathing, whose clothes were tore, and in several places he was bleeding, not badly, but enough to be noticed from a distance. In his hurry Rob hadn’t even noticed his own condition. Nurse Joy quickly approached Rob trying to find out the hurry.

“Please tell me,” She said, with the sound of real concern on her voice “What’s happened?”

“Please, you have to help,” Rob was still struggling to catch his breath “My Arson... Houndour... we’ve been attacked by a large group off Beedrill... My Dan-Chimchar, he must be so worn out.”

“Oh dear... Chansey quickly,” Nurse Joy called over to one of her Chansey’s, which came running with a small tray. Rob knew to put the Pokéball’s straight onto it, knowing what to do. Before turning back to Rob “I’ll do everything I can... Officer Jenny will want to speak to you though.”

Rob’s mind quickly darted back to Vince, remembering he had to speak to Officer Jenny as soon as Nurse Joy mentioned her name. However that wasn’t the most important thing to Rob at this stage, Arson and Dante were his only concern.

As the day passed into night quickly, Rob was sat at the bedside. Standing in the room was Nurse Joy who close to Rob, appearing to dab him with something and Officer Jenny who was taking notes, with Dante sat on Rob’s shoulder, who clearly wasn’t too bad from his experience with the Beedrill. Rob was staring at the bed on which Arson lied. He hadn’t yet woken since the attack.

“Are you sure of your description of the men you saw?” Officer Jenny asked the question clearly sceptical, as even to Rob they looked stupid and misplaced at the time.

“Of course I’m certain...” Rob winced some more as Nurse Joy once again pressed down on one of the scratches on Rob back with some clear liquid.

“Well they might the reason for your attack, and several others that have occurred” She said studying some notes on a previous page, obviously Rob wasn’t the first trainer omitted with a problem “At first we thought it was due to the mass influx of trainers from that Professor Oak tournament stirring them up, but if what you say is true, this is much more serious.”

“No shi-“ before Rob couldn’t finish he once again jumped by Nurse Joy dabbing one of the cuts on his back “You really don’t need to tend to those... You’ve done enough for me to today.” Rob said that final part simultaneously stroking Arson, while patting Dante on the head.

“Well I better file a report and alert all the other Officers in Kanto to be on the lookout for these guys. However if I’m right they sound like a group who were caught in the Safari zone last week, we’ve been getting fragmented reports on them for week...” Jenny paused for a brief moment before continuing “They call themselves “The Reapers” and seem to have taking off where Team Rocket left a couple years back,” Jenny said this as she quickly stood up straight, and walked out the room.

“Well I’m almost done as well” Nurse Joy said this as she put one last dab onto Rob’s back “I don’t know how you avoided getting the poison into your system, and these cuts should heal without scarring... Hopefully...”

“Well they wouldn’t be my first scars either way” Rob looked down at his wrists “The stupid decisions that I’ve made... Still can’t sure whether today was a mistake or not.”

“I’ll be in to check of Arson a little later,” Nurse Joy said this as she walked out the door, “you better get some rest as well. You’ll never beat Forest tired.”

Going against the gym leader was the last thing on Robs mind right now; his mind had begun to wonder about what had happened in Viridian Forest “What if I had fought Vince and those other guys, sure I would have certainly lost, but it might have left Arson in a better position than he is currently. It would have certainly felt like the right thing to do, and the “so-called” right thing, that leaving to pick a better fight has only left his Pokémon seriously injured.”

These thoughts made Rob get extremely angry, he began to shake with rage as he clenched both of his fists, and continued his trail of thought “The next time I see that Vince or any member of “The Reapers”, I swear I will make them sorry for what they have done to me and my Pokémon.”

His rage built up and up as he closed his eyes with such anger and frustration trying to get thoughts out of his mind, as he is suddenly shocked by something touching his hand. As a stirring Arson is prodding Rob’s hand with the tip of his nose, still not quite awake, and within an instant, again nothing else mattered.

Sorry for it being so long

Chapter 11-

A new day has dawned over Kanto, as appearing out of the Pokémon centre early in the morning with the sun just rising is Rob. It’s taken a couple of days, but Arson managed to recover from his poisoning by the Beedrill. Rob himself has also recovered quickly, having already removed most of the bandages, especially any which would have visible.

Nurse Joy had already informed Rob of the direction of the Pewter City gym, meaning he didn’t have to waste time searching for the route on his Pokétch. En route Rob began thinking, the Pewter city gym has been family owned for as long as anyone remembers, and he had met Brock a few times when he was the gym leader, but since leaving and his younger brother taking over, there was little contact with the Pewter city gym. However it was safe to assume that the tradition of it being a rock type gym still stood, but past that it was nothing more than pure guess work.

After he had walked only a couple of streets, at the end of the road, Rob could see the large gym building in the distance. Without the front door, it would have easily have been seen as nothing more than one giant boulder, which had proved Rob correct that he was looking at a rock-type gym. This did leave Rob somewhat worried about his strategy, with fire-types being weak to rock-types he would have to rely heavily on the speed that his Pokémon have already shown so many times, as well as using the average rock-types weak special defence to his advantage against his fire-types.

This was the most obvious strategy, but easily the best he could make, but it would surely be a strategy that even the young gym leader would have already have faced on countless occasions. During this thought process Rob had made it right to the door of the gym. He entered what felt like tiny doors compared to the size of the boulder building.

Entering the door there was no messing around inside the gym, the boulder had been hollowed out, and nearly the whole thing was dedicated purely to the battlefield, with the smallest amount of space around the sides, and with a slightly larger area either side for the gym leader and the challenger. The field itself was a very traditional rock field, plain and simple, with different boulders ranging in size scattered across the floor.

From where Rob was stood on the far side of the gym, he could make out the figure on the far side. Sat down on top of a boulder, it almost seemed like he was attempting to feel out a space which he hadn’t quite yet grown into. It seemed clear that he was looking at the gym leader rather quickly.

“A new challenger,” the voice seemed as if it was just talking at a normal level however it could be heard as if he was right next to him, it must be the design of the gym, perhaps more sophisticated than its appearance would lead to believe, and he continued “I trust a three on three battle is alright?”

The proposal caught Rob completely off guard; he hadn’t thought if the gym leader expected three Pokémon, in some respects he was lucky the gym leader didn’t ask for it to be a six on six battle. Nonetheless Rob felt compelled to say it would have to say it would have to be two on three, “Well actually...”

“Don’t worry. I know you only have two Pokémon; news about trainers gets about quickly in such a small town,” the young gym leader was toying with Rob, and it meant that he was going to attempt to play mind games, but how should Rob respond he wondered, at the very least, he should wait and see where this is all going, the gym leader continued “So instead we will have a two on two double battle”.

A rare proposal, most gym leaders would never have bothered of making such allowances for the challenger; almost certainly Blaine never would have done, but then again Blaine was a much higher ranked gym leader, and no gym challenger would turn up with less than three Pokémon, the standard for gym battles. Nonetheless Rob was not going to be knocked back, or allow any form of mind game to be played on him, especially by someone his junior, “That’s fine by me.”

“I, Forest, the Pewter city gym leader accept your challenge” Forest seemed to increase the tone of his voice, as he stood and took a step off his boulder, revealing himself more into the light coming in from the few windows in the gym. The young gym leader was smaller than Rob had expected, but nonetheless the spitting image of Brock, with his eyes appearing to be closed and spiked dark brown hair being his most distinctive features. He smiled as he threw out two Pokéball’s at the same time, in an under arm movement they flew up high in the air, one opening early, the other falling close to the ground before opening, “Let’s see if your certain you want to battle after this.”

Nothing could have ever prepared Rob for what he saw in front of him. Straight in front standing at what seemed well over 25 feet high in front of Rob was easily the largest Pokémon he had ever seen appearing highly aggressive and angry was a Steelix If it wasn’t for the daunting thought of facing this over 800lbs steel goliath, he would have realised that steel-type was weak to fire-types and his odds of winning had maybe improved slightly.

The second Pokémon was slightly less of a worry, and a lot less of a surprise was what to the casual eye would have appeared to be just a boulder resting of the ground, was in fact a Geodude. At least his original strategy would still apply to a Geodude.

Rob wasted little more time, he now had to regain control of the situation, this momentary shock at seeing Steelix, had given Forest the upper hand in what may be quite the head game. However if you are going to play a head game with someone, that Steelix really would be a great head start Rob couldn’t help but think to himself. As such he quickly threw out both of his Pokémon declaring “Let’s show them the power and speed of fire-types.”

Both Dante and Arson came out of their Pokéball’s, and acted in a way that could almost be seen as characteristic of them. Even in the face of Forest’s Steelix, Arson decided that he would attempt to match ferocity with the Iron Snake Pokémon, by growling straight at his opponent. While Dante came out of his Pokéball in his typical happy dancing manner, it soon switched to mood of fear, as soon as he saw Steelix, he almost began to cower at the site of the giant Pokémon, Rob had to act quickly before the battle began, “Don’t worry Dante, we’re not going to let anything happen to you.”

This short statement seemed to give Dante the confidence to stand up straight in response to Steelix, before turn his attention to Geodude. Rob was glad it was that simple to re-install confidence, or at least help his Pokémon feint confidence, at such a time.

“I trust no referee will be needed?” Forest seem to genuinely ask rather than just tell Rob this was how it was going to be, a major switch in the personality, more mind games? Nonetheless he continued “The battle will be over when both of one sides Pokémon is unable to battle, as simple as that.”

“Fine! I’ll begin...” for some reason Rob felt like he had to be the aggressor in the early stages, maybe it was the fear still inside him of looking up at the Steelix, or perhaps he hoped he would gain some form mental advantage over his younger competitor by putting him onto the back foot.

“...Embers at each opponent” his Pokémon knew the drill, something he had practised in most of his battles to date, keeping the distance, by using a combination of ember and speed, however this was a completely different challenge.

Arson fired off a quick salvo of small flames right into Steelix, but seemed as if it did no damage. The large Pokémon just seemed to take the blow without moving. Rob knew that Steelix was weak to fire-type moves, and regardless of size or defence, that was bound to have done some level of damage, it was just a matter of how much.

On the other side of the battle, Dante fired off a much larger amount of small flames, which completely bathed Geodude in the flames, causing a small amount of smoke to appear and block the view. However once it had cleared, like with Steelix no damage had appeared to be done, Geodude had moved his hands up to cover and add additional defence, but he had not moved and once his hands were moved out the way, he seemed to be no worse for wear.

Forest’s smile had grown across his face, as he took the opportunity to be the gym leader “Your Pokémon might have the power, but my raw defence will wear you down till it makes no difference”, he sneered as he prepared for his own attack “Steelix, use rock throw on both of them.”

With an almighty crash, Steelix’s tail came right down on the gyms floors sending pieces of rock ranging in size flying across the gym. The sight would have been inspiring if it wasn’t for the fact that Rob felt they were coming straight for him as much as they were coming for his Pokémon, he yelled in almost a panic “Dodge them!”

If seeing those rocks was an awe inspiring sight, then what happened next really was truly something to behold. Arson and Dante both started dodging the rocks near perfectly. Arson was running along the ground, dodging left and right, as the rocks carried on coming in. Meanwhile to his side perhaps even more impressive was Dante, he was using each rock as a launching pad, and he climbed higher and higher, till he was a good height off the ground, and had no more rocks above him, and was in a much better position high above the battlefield.

It was at that moment, just as the rock began to land, that this “better” position was in fact the complete opposite. Dante was just over 10 metres in the air, only slightly above Steelix’s head, meanwhile due to Arson running forward to dodge the rocks; he himself was only a few feet away from Steelix’s massive body. Leaving Rob once again in a position where he needed to think quickly.

Rob once again went to the tried and tested method, ordering his Pokémon “Use Ember to gain distance.”

This was quickly followed up, Dante using a massive blast of small flames, from above at close range onto Steelix’s massive head, while at the same time Arson blasted Steelix’s massive body with a huge amount of flames but in short bursts so that he could move away. Dante on the other hand had used one long burst as to slowly move down back to ground level.

Rob thought at this point he would have done enough damage to Steelix, and in turn had Forest on enough of a back point to get Dante away. However he was to have no such luck, as once again, when the smoke had cleared from the double attack, all that was left was Steelix, still looking as though it had taken literally no damage, and behind him still a calm command could be heard from Forest “Slam.”

Any reviews would be greatly appreciated
Hoping the Grammar is still improving, and that our still enjoying it
