I kinda want it to be Nando with a Mew but that's just hopeful wishing. But he should be getting a different sixth pokemon since I dont see him using Kricketot in the league

I hope it's someone else honestly. Nando with Mew would be totally random and out of the blue.

I hope for a massive severing of ties after DP ends. I expect there to be one anyway.

4 years with the same characters and Pokemon is enough.

I hope we see more of Nando's Lopunny and Altaria in the League. I don't know about everyone else, but this Grand Festival made me love Nando. I'm super excited to see him again, but I hope he has some reserves, because the 2 pokemon of his I stated above are the only ones I really like.

If Ash loses to Nando by any chance, I'd be ok with it. Same with Conway.

I hope Ash gets to tie in a 6 VS 6.

Now that we know Buck isn't the legendary trainer, I still think Kouhei will be it. We only know he's in the league due to the opening, so having him be this mysterious legendary guy makes sense.

Nah even fact that Buck isn't legendary trainer still doesn't make Conway to be legendary dude. My bet is that legendary guy will be someone that we doesn't even know, yet.

The best Conway can do is to feature new Pokemon or introduce Isshu, that would be pretty good in my opinion.

Then why opening didn't spoiled anything about him? We see every rival on the GF, we see every new pokemon...I don't see any new rival for the league...

Katie was pretty cool. One answer would be that the writers are just sexist, but most likely not. A more logical answer might be that they were COTDs. Awesome COTDs, that is.
I guess it could be considered sexist, but think for a second: who's more likely to be a fan of Pokemon, a boy or a girl? I wish there were some female rivals, like I was expecting Leaf to be Ash's rival for the BF arc in AG, but that didn't happen.

I hope Conway has the legendary, and I hope we see more Conway and Dawn moments.

Seriously, Conway or Nando should win, if Ash doesn't, IMO. Simply because they have champion qualities.

I want Ash to win, but if not, I'd be cool with him losing to Nando or Conway. As much as I love Barry, he did not win his 8th badge the right way, and also, Paul is just an ass.

I hope Barry makes it far though, will the writers let him surpass Paul, IDK or think so really.

I do hope we see Barry vs Paul. I hope Nando uses some sleep move tactics to give Ash a run for his money.

I hope Ash gets to tie in a 6 VS 6.

What's the obsession with the tie ? I don't get this. You kept saying that in the GF threads too...

Sure, it's unpredictable and that's interesting for about one third of a second, but quite frankly, it would feel rather cheated if Ash were to tie to one of his minor rivals like Conway and Nando, because they've never really been shown to be on Ash's level...

Plus, how do you break that tie ? They each call one pokémon to break it ? That just makes that one pokémon feel a bit like a slap in the face to the 6 pokémon who took part in the original battle. He's there cause they couldn't cut it... meh.

I still think Kouhei will be it.

Actually, I don't think the legendary trainer is in the openning, but that he/she has been introduced prior on the show during DP.

Then why opening didn't spoiled anything about him? We see every rival on the GF, we see every new pokemon...I don't see any new rival for the league...

The openning didn't spoil Quilava either and oh look, that's in the same shot...

That's a pretty big list.......anyone care to break it down?

That's a pretty big list.......anyone care to break it down?

By the way, I can't remember, but is it explicitely said that Ash is gonna battle the legendary trainer or could it be anybody else ?

Not necessarily that big a list... I mean... trainer who have had more incidence on the plot than regular COTD, that have been referred to and appeared in more than one episode and that could concievably be on a journey challenging gyms. That's not that big a list.

I don't think that it'll be one of the trainers in the openning because we've seen a lot of them already, we know most of their teams and more importantly, we know that they're roughly on the same level as Ash. Leona and Alan fall in this category too.

There are a few liklier suspects if we discount Buck...

Top 3 contenders...

1- Riley. I still put him at the top of the list because of the openning where we see Lucario and Entei (both owned by his game counterpart) and Drakai (who can be found in game near Iron Island), because he mentionned being a trainer that came to Iron Island to study on the steel type, meaning he's actively training on top of developping as an Aura guardian. If we go by the games and the openning, he has to be considered a pretty good guess.

2- Holly/Honoka. A trainer that seems to have a predilection for flying types + she has Ho in her name in both Japanese and English + HGSS = possibility of Holly showing up with a Ho-oh... Plus, I always felt she was meant to come back (which, why wasn't she in the pokéringer ?) She left to prove she could be a better partner to Brock, showing up to the League with a legendary could a be a good first step towards that :p

3- Reggie. Do we forget about him too much ? I mean, he's there to be a breeder and the sucker who has to take care of Paul's pokémon and be the guy who makes Paul seem a little more human, but why give him a past as a trainer ? Why specifically show him having won badges ? Sure, it introduced Paul's quest for power when he witnessed Reggie's battle with Brandon, but the writers could have had Paul be kind, then challenge Brandon, lose badly and go psycho... but the writers consistently reminded us that he was a trainer... There might be a reason behind that. I could see him getting in the League to show his brother that there are other ways to be strong.

Now for the more farfetched picks. I really don't think those'll happen, but they could.

4- Palmer. I know, extremly unlikely, but he's a strong trainer that could concievably have a legendary who had to have started somewhere. Could presumably have earned the badges in his youth and decides to challenge the League to test his son's and Ash's strenght. Plus, there's that Barry/Palmer plot that's still unresolved and that Ash/Palmer battle always felt like it was part 1 to something else.

5- Gary Oak, lost horribly to Saturn, that might have awakened his trainer instinct.

5- Volkner. Again, extremely extremely unlikely, but his fire has been reignited (no pun intended... if you don't get the obvious pun, then nevermind.) There's that one electric legendary pokemon that has yet to make a real appearance in the anime and Volkner's most powerful pokémon, Raichu hasn't made an appearance in battle, neither has his in-game Ambipom or Octillery. The writers were shown to follow gym leaders' in-game team, except for Volkner (and Roark in the rematch), so...

6- Hey, is Brandon still in Sinnoh at Snowpoint Temple ? If so, he could show up with Regigagas to get a rematch against Ash/Paul. Wasn't shown to be collecting badges, but he had to start his training career one way or another...

7- Misty. Yes, you've read right, it's still me Gible, I haven't been abducted by aliens, but Misty. Thing is, we haven't seen Misty at all in Sinnoh, except for the special lure, and timeline doesn't really add up for a Pallet reunion. (I think Oak will take Ash's reserves and his Sinnoh pokémon except maybe Gible and Infernapt back to Oak Corral and Ash'll leave for Isshu from Sinnoh) So if she were to make an appearance, it almost would have to be at the League. Could be a cameo, maybe she'll come to cheer or maybe she'll come to compete. Considering that the only gen IV legendary we haven't yet seen in an anime appearance in DP is Manaphy, a water pokémon... Still, I think they'd give priority the role of the legendary trainer to someone who's actually appeared in the DP anime and fought against/alongside Ash, Dawn or a rival during DP, cause Misty showing up would have no build up and really wouldn't fit in the DP storylines. Palmer fits in Barry's storyline, Gary fit in TG, Brandon in Paul's, but Misty wouldn't fit. Still, it's a possibility.

For your entertainment...

8- That mini Nurse Joy with Suicune :D

9- Marley shows up with the real Legendary pokémon, Arcanine. :(

^Nice, nice thoeries Gible. All of them sound good in your arguments, even those wich are unlikely (Gary and Misty). Reggie would be the biggest surprise IMO. I didn't expect him until you mentioned him.

I didn't think about him at all until today actually. It would be a real shocker, to say the least.

Reggie has no reason to be in the league. We won't see him compete against Paul in the same tournament either.

Why not? Having the members of a family fighting each other in a tournament is always exciting, especially when said siblings have opposite ideologies/fighting methods.
