Anyway, I think May had the biggest breakthrough in a way because she was the first female to actually have an intresting sidequest, but I think Dawn overall had a bigger impact on the company in general. Since, she became the first female to approach Ash's level of stardom and that was unheard of even with May's introduction.

Its pretty much the same thing. Dawn got more promotion because they had practiced with May prior and wanted to do a co-star thing again.

I find it interesting though that May got more Contests overall than Dawn did. May got 16 Contests and two Grand Festivals, whereas Dawn only got 11 Contests and 1 Grand Festival.

Since I don't think Dawn will stay after DP, it seems like May got more Contests than Dawn overall, even if Dawn got to star in more episodes.

misty was pretty even, you know. she just didn't have anything to do. most people thought she was a permanent character, hence the fact she traveled with ash in kanto, the orange islands, AND johto. the orange islands and johto were regions completely irrelevant to her, so yeah.

also, the show gets more viewers each year, so the b/w girl will be as popular as the previous girls.

10 years is more than enough time to practice. I think they were waiting for a girl to really fit Ash. Dawn has basic similarities with him, and well as distinct characteristics that go well with him.

It will be hard for BW girl to top that. Unless they make Dawn a clone of BW girl in terms of appearance, I see that happening.

Misty was still only around for 5 years, looking back now in retrospect she wasn't even in the series all that long. It was less than half it run.

That is a fair point, I have always said that I thought May was kinda of a test run at the whole "heroine" concept and if she had failed they have just brought back Misty. I think what benefited May in terms of more contest was the remakes of Red and Blue, Dawn if she leaves didn't have the luxury of a filler saga and the remakes of Gold and Silver and the release Black and White are so close together. And on top of that, Johto isn't all that popular...J/k.

DP did go on for the same span of Hoenn/BF combined, but they didn't make as many contests this time.

Makes me wonder where people got the idea Contests got more promotion in DP than AG. The only way I can see that is there were more training eps for Contests this gen, but not actual Contests themselves.

Most of Dawn's rivals aside from Zoey also only ever appeared in a handful of episodes.

If they are going to keep contests in the long run they cant let the viewers get burned out with them, so it wasnt as saturated as AG.

Ash has had many travelling companions, all with different personalities, all were friends. They don't have to make new girl a clone of Dawn to make her succesful.

DP did go on for the same span of Hoenn/BF combined, but they didn't make as many contests this time.

If you count Jessie's contests, the unofficial contest, the contest in movie 10 and the Salvia contest... you get roughly the same amount. Plus there were about as many contest episodes in both saga, except DP had more training episodes...

Makes me wonder where people got the idea Contests got more promotion in DP than AG.

Look above and you'll see !!!

Most of Dawn's rivals aside from Zoey also only ever appeared in a handful of episodes.

Most of May's rivals were COTD who never appeared again... that proves nothing Scott.

well i would agree with you just because we are older. i think it was more "popular" in terms with the younger audience, with the audition of costumes and sparkly things. but people like us just thought it didn't have spice anymore except for a tiny high when it first started.

I don't think we'll see Dawn or Contests in the next arc, IMO.

IMO dawns leaving/staying comes down to one thing. Whether they have contests next region. If they have contests i think theres a better chance that she'll stay "though they could still boot her even then, and we'd have that whole pokemon issue with her". But if there's no contests.... well theres nothing to discuss really.

Ash has had many travelling companions, all with different personalities, all were friends. They don't have to make new girl a clone of Dawn to make her succesful.

I agree. There is unlimited supply of "personalities" out there that could still be effective. Dawn isn't totally ideal.

Most of May's rivals were COTD who never appeared again... that proves nothing Scott.

This i disagree with.. I mean drew and harley got plenty of screentime, not to mention i think they were a lot more interesting then zoey or kenny or nando ever could be (it even got to the point where i hated harley so much, i got that into it).

Yes, it does depend if contests are even in the next arc.
Dawn/Pipulp are very popular and keep her in the new mix of contests would be better. I think she deserves one more saga since she only got one Grand Festival. Sure she had a lot of episodes but I think she deserves another shot at winning at Zoey.

i guess we can agree to disagree? lol. i have nothing against dawn as a person. i guess i never got into contests, like i thought they were a good attribute towards the story line because they mixed things up. well now i think everything is as mixed as they can get and they should find a new concoction to stir around. i think that's why they got rid of misty, so they could totally promote contests. now it has gone on for three arcs and i want something another brand new thing to focus on. that's one of my only reasons i don't want to see dawn next arc. i guess i do love her. i just don't love contests anymore.

I really think that contests are going to be sticking around for the long run and that the writers will make it a pattern of having the new girl every generation become the coordinator. I also think they will add another element to contests this time around. I think that the Isshu contests will have an appeals round like the games where its four coordinators in a group and they have to appeal in front of each other and the one with the most points out of the four moves on to the battle round.

Just like every new generation we have a new trainer boy?

You know friend, the anime producers take the direction that is more convenient for them. If they have new girl every saga they will have to outdo the previous ones to keep the chain going.

They can just settle for the most popular one they have. Then when it comes to game promotion, they use separate characters, they did this for G/S (Marina, Jimmy) and HGSS (Lyra) and the ranger games (whoever those people were). So relax.

What would they do to dawn if they can't make contests a big hit anymore and just got rid of them?

I like gyms more than contests too however I like Dawn's character.
While I'm getting sick of contests right now I'd rather them keep some one I like in contests than bring in some newbie and watch contest arc all over again. Now if they have a new side quest for the new girl to do than that'd be awesome and I'd welcome that.

lol if they try and do all three i can see a lot of dangerous juggling happening. also we'd have a pretty darn long story arc. wow, if that happens i'll be interested in knowing how many episodes they'll actually promote gym battling, since that has (should be) been the main focus. if it gets smothered. i'll be disappointed. considering they are just sidequests in the game... but i guess they need to draw a female audience...

Who says gym battles are a big hit. People tune in to see characters develop in different ways. They could be skipping ropes instead, but if the writing is good it will become popular.
