The Gyms and the League - DP Style or Pt Style?

If ORAS was anything to go by, then it's quite possible that they'll be using their DP teams, especially since GF has been using the word "faithful" regarding the games.
I am pretty sure that they'll use DP teams. HGSS had the GS rosters, not the Crystal ones. ORAS had the RS ones, despite Emerald's being better.
Like I said before, previous remakes changed one or two pokemon only, so IF they change something I think they'll only change the Medicham in Candice's team and the Octillery in Volkner's.

As for Flint, I believe they might pull an ORAS and have more pokemon after the Galactic climax with Dialga/Palkia so we might see Pt teams for the E4.

Volkner has an Ambipom as well as Octillery in D/P, you forgot to mention. I do agree that if the Platinum Dex is implemented, they will likely make changes to Candice, Volkner and Flint's teams in order to make them all composed of their specific type.

Did Crystal have different teams from GS?

Nah, they were all exactly the same.

Also, if you ask me, I think it's pretty obvious that the reason they didn't use the Emerald teams in ORAS is because aside from Wallace/Juan, the Emerald teams all flat-out have an extra Pokémon (or two in Liza & Tate's case) in comparison to the RS teams, thus making them more difficult and slightly changing the balance. That's not really the issue when it comes to the DP teams in comparison to the Platinum teams. The DP teams just suck and are clearly throwing in whatever they can to make up for the emaciated Dex.

I’m thinking Volkner might ditch Jolteon for Electivire while keeping Luxray as his ace. There’s no reason for him to have Ambipom, while Octillery can counter his team’s Ground-type weakness. It’ll keep people on their toes.

I expect to largely see Platinum's improvements if the Platinum Dex is rightfully implemented. It makes no sense to have the aforementioned type-specialists running around with incomplete teams not even based in their types. In all other scenarios, the differences between DP and Platinum teams for earlier characters would be unnoticeable so I really don't care about any of this up until we get to Candice.

Also, I think we're forgetting that there is a third option: LGPE's route of completely redesigning some of the teams.

This was most noticeable with Lance, with him losing two Dragonairs and gaining a Charizard and a Seadra, Charizard has only ever been seen on his team in the Johto and Unova games, and he only ever used a Kingdra in the Unova games, so if the developers want to take creative liberties to redesign some of the gym leader/E4 teams, they certainly can, they are under no obligation to stick to past trends, after all, Wally had a Gallade in ORAS.

As long as the noteworthy trainers have teams full of their specialized type I'm not too worried about the team composition as long as we avoid duplicate species (Lance's two Dragonairs and Dragonite, Candice's Snover and Abomasnow, etc) AND give them a full team of their type, I'll be content.

For a moment, I misread "Wally" as "Wallace" and thought it was weird that an addition to his team was a non-Water-type. Didn't help how The Flash character's name Wally West was short for Wallace West. Anyway, yes they should definitely use the Platinum roster. Flint has to have a team of Fire-types to call himself a Fire specialist, and I don't want any Sinnoh Pokémon like Electivire, Magmortar, Giratina, Heatran or Arceus to be left out of the Sinnoh Dex again. Leaving Pokémon out of their home regional Dex just to utilize the National Dex was a bad idea and I'm glad the later Pokémon at least made it into their regional Dexes. Though Meltan and Melmetal belongs to Alola, not Kanto. But anyway, I hope BDSP doesn't become so faithful to the original Diamond and Pearl that they copy the original Pokédex and force some Gym Leaders and Elite Four members to use Pokémon outside of their types. If the game features all the original 493 Pokémon and no National Dex, then Flint could also have a Charizard, Vulpix and Arcanine on his team. But if it's a totally faithful remake and has the same regional and National Dex from the original Diamond and Pearl and the only changes are the upscaled graphics and the 3D battling, then there won't be anything to get hyped for. We'll see at E3 (which is going to happen this year!) if they would show us more details about Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. I hope the chibi overworld models are just there so that the Poké Radar would work properly.

The mix of both Dp and Pt style:
Roark- Dp style
Gardenia-Dp Style
Maylene-Dp style
Crasher wake- Dp style
Fantina- Dp style as the fifth gym leader, not third in platinum
Byron-Pt style
Candice- Pt style, but abomasnow is still her signature, not Froslass
Volkner-pt style, but Luxray is still his signature, not Electivire

Elite Four is still Dp style, here some changes:
Aaron is still using his Dp style team
Bertha changes are Gliscor, Rhyperior replaces Quagsire and Sudowoodo, but Hippowdom is her signature
Flint changes Flareon, Houndoom, and Magmortar replacing Drifblim, Lopunny, and Steelix, but Infernape remain his signature
Lucian is using his Dp style
Cynthia definitely her Dp team

Rematches of Elite four, in case of Mega Evolution return, but not new ones:
Aaron Pt style and his Mega Scizor
Bertha pt style with her mega Swampert, Steelix or Camerupt
Flint pt style with his Mega Houndoom
Lucian pt style with his Mega Alakazam, Gallade, or Medicham
Cynthia definitely using her pt team togekiss replaces gastrodon, and her signature Mega Garchomp.

Because there's almost always a gym where you have to backtrack (Viridian, Olivine, Petalburg, Lumiose...)

I understand Gen I's reason (they removed a Bug gym and added Giovanni), but the rest... uhm... yeah.
There was going to be a Bug gym? Well, at least that would be an easier first gym for Charmander players than Brock.

But anyway, Viridian was closed because Giovanni was away, probably busy as the head of Team Rocket. Olivine had a sick Ampharos that needed medicine from Cianwood. The Petalburg Gym Leader was your Dad and he didn't want to be the first Gym Leader for his child. And Lumiose had a blackout. What was Fantina's excuse again?

I meant out-of-universe explanations, like the Gen I reordering.

She didn't really have one, she just says you should challenge her once you become stronger.

Also I... didn't actually know until just now that you have to go all the way to Celestic before you can challenge Fantina. I thought you just had to get as far as Pastoria, and then the (otherwise optional) Route 212 would organically lead you back up to Hearthome.

For fuck's sake, DP. :bulbaFacepalm:

For me, ghost is one of those types that should be bit more challenging, just like dragon or steel. Having a ghost-type gym as the third gym already feels much too early, especially considering how lame Fantina's Platinum team is compared to the original Diamond/Pearl one. That's one of the few changes I actually dislike about Platinum.

I do agree that the backtracking is a bit much, though, so ideally you would be able to challenge her as soon as you have the other four badges, i. e. you'd be organically led back from Pastoria City via Route 212 as described by @Esserise.
