Overview
What if you learned that the world you see before you is only part of a much grander scheme? That beneath it, there teems an invisible world?
Your character has been introduced to this world. You might be aPsychopomp. You have faced death. Whether you barely escaped from a house fire after watching your parents burn alive, or nearly drowned to death in your neighbor's pool, you've cheated Death, and you've gained power from it.
You may also be a Wraith. You have unfinished business to attend to, even after death. There is a means to resolve this and achieve closure: You return as a Wraith. Your alive, but you have forsaken your body and many of your memories. It is up to you to discover what you need to do and find your truth path.
Of course, now you're an inextricable part of this world. Soul-devouring monsters known as Slashers roam the streets, looking for their next meal, and stray souls look for a powerful being to possess. And who knows what would happen if normal people were to learn of this?
Enter the Shinigami Group. To the public, it's a philanthropic organization. However, it's true aim is to prevent the public from learning about the things that bump in the night. To this end, it enlists Psychopomp and Wraiths. In exchange, it provides them with money, and is willing to allow Wraiths more freedom in their quest to pass on.
You have been offered a job in the Shinigami Group's chapter in your hometown of Metro City, which is a spiritual faultline, a hub for all things occult. Your first job is tomorrow.

Rules
-No godmodding. Don't make your character insanely powerful, everyone starts out at roughly the same power level.
-No auto-hitting. Instead of saying "Bob punched Jack in the face" say "Bob tried to punch Jack in the face."
-Keep things at about the level you'd see in an R-rated movie. So be as violent as you like, but no vividly describing sex scenes

Sign-Ups
Name: Everyone has a name. If you're a wraith, there's a good chance you don't know yours and made something up.
Age: Psychopomps typically have human lifespans. Wraiths can live as long as they need to.
Gender: Male or female. Wraiths may or may not actually have a gender, but many of them pick one to identify as.
Wraith or Psychopomp: Psychopomps are people who have had near death experiences and usually look like normal people, Wraiths are dead people who came back to fix something and look like either not-normal people or horrible monsters.
Appearance: Either describe your person, or feel free to use an image. Wraiths always have something that marks them as non-human. This can be as subtle as having red eyes or fangs, or as obvious as being a 10-foot tall purple dinosaur.
History: I don't need too long a length. Just describe how your character got their powers. Remember, if you're a Wraith, you remember very little of your former life.
Powers: Both Psychopomps and Wraiths have supernatural powers. Psychopomps tend to be more magicy, like shooting fireballs and controlling lightning. Wraith powers tend to be more physical in nature, such as supernatural strength or sprouting bat wings. This rule isn't hard and fast, though, and any kind of power is acceptable.

This can be as subtle as having red eyes or cat ears, or as obvious as being a 10-foot tall purple dinosaur. So if the latter is true, include some way your character blends in.
History: I don't need too long a length. Just describe how your character got their powers. Remember, if you're a Wraith, you might not remember much of your former life. Feel free to PM me something if you want to hide it.

Further, while powers are often tied to the cause of death or near death, just as often they're completely unrelated. Just don't make anything too overpowered, and it'll be fine.

Example:
Name: Victor Kubin
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Wraith or Psychopomp: Wraith
Appearance: Victor appears mostly humanoid, having a form fairly similar to the one he had in life. He's tall, at 6'2, and pretty built. He tends to favor typical biker-style clothing. He almost never takes off the fleece-lined leather jacket he was wearing at his time of death. He has shaggy brown hair that goes down just past his ears, and green eyes. He does have one distinguishing feature: His right arm is completely machine. It looks like it was made from old motorcycle parts, with flame decals and a tailpipe coming out. He usually tells people it's a prosthetic.
History: Victor loved his motorcycle. He was always a good driver. One of his favorite sayings was "Motorcycles don't kill people. People who can't drive kill people." He was unfortunately proven right one evening. He was traveling home late one Saturday evening, on the interstate, when he was hit by a drunk driver. He was sent flying. He laid there for hours on end, slowly bleeding out by the side of the road. His mangled body wasn't found until the next day.
However, that wasn't the end for Kubin. He was angry. He wanted revenge. He returned as a Wraith, and soon learned the circumstances of his death. He remembers one thing: The car had a painting of a spider on the back. He decided that to move on, he would have to get revenge on the man who killed him.
Powers: Victor's power is technokinesis. That is to say, he can merge with machines. He simply has to touch a piece of machinery with his mechanical right arm, and he can then absorb it with a single thought. He can only have one machine at a time, but he can alter how it works a bit. For example, if he absorbed a gas stove, he could then shoot a stream of fire from his hand.
Skills: Victor used to dote on his old motorcycle, and as such knows quite a bit about machines.
