Overview

What if you learned that the world you see before you is only part of a much grander scheme? That beneath it, there teems an invisible world?

Your character has been introduced to this world. You might be aPsychopomp. You have faced death. Whether you barely escaped from a house fire after watching your parents burn alive, or nearly drowned to death in your neighbor's pool, you've cheated Death, and you've gained power from it.

You may also be a Wraith. You have unfinished business to attend to, even after death. There is a means to resolve this and achieve closure: You return as a Wraith. Your alive, but you have forsaken your body and many of your memories. It is up to you to discover what you need to do and find your truth path.

Of course, now you're an inextricable part of this world. Soul-devouring monsters known as Slashers roam the streets, looking for their next meal, and stray souls look for a powerful being to possess. And who knows what would happen if normal people were to learn of this?

Enter the Shinigami Group. To the public, it's a philanthropic organization. However, it's true aim is to prevent the public from learning about the things that bump in the night. To this end, it enlists Psychopomp and Wraiths. In exchange, it provides them with money, and is willing to allow Wraiths more freedom in their quest to pass on.

You have been offered a job in the Shinigami Group's chapter in your hometown of Metro City, which is a spiritual faultline, a hub for all things occult. Your first job is tomorrow.

Rules
-No godmodding. Don't make your character insanely powerful, everyone starts out at roughly the same power level.
-No auto-hitting. Instead of saying "Bob punched Jack in the face" say "Bob tried to punch Jack in the face."
-Keep things at about the level you'd see in an R-rated movie. So be as violent as you like, but no vividly describing sex scenes

Sign-Ups
Name: Everyone has a name. If you're a wraith, there's a good chance you don't know yours and made something up.
Age: Psychopomps typically have human lifespans. Wraiths can live as long as they need to.
Gender: Male or female. Wraiths may or may not actually have a gender, but many of them pick one to identify as.
Wraith or Psychopomp: Psychopomps are people who have had near death experiences and usually look like normal people, Wraiths are dead people who came back to fix something and look like either not-normal people or horrible monsters.
Appearance: Either describe your person, or feel free to use an image. Wraiths always have something that marks them as non-human. This can be as subtle as having red eyes or fangs, or as obvious as being a 10-foot tall purple dinosaur.
History: I don't need too long a length. Just describe how your character got their powers. Remember, if you're a Wraith, you remember very little of your former life.
Powers: Both Psychopomps and Wraiths have supernatural powers. Psychopomps tend to be more magicy, like shooting fireballs and controlling lightning. Wraith powers tend to be more physical in nature, such as supernatural strength or sprouting bat wings. This rule isn't hard and fast, though, and any kind of power is acceptable.

Example:
Name: Victor Kubin

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Wraith or Psychopomp: Wraith

Appearance: Victor appears mostly humanoid, having a form fairly similar to the one he had in life. He's tall, at 6'2, and pretty built. He tends to favor typical biker-style clothing. He almost never takes off the fleece-lined leather jacket he was wearing at his time of death. He has shaggy brown hair that goes down just past his ears, and green eyes. He does have one distinguishing feature: His right arm is completely machine. It looks like it was made from old motorcycle parts, with flame decals and a tailpipe coming out. He usually tells people it's a prosthetic.

History: Victor loved his motorcycle. He was always a good driver. One of his favorite sayings was "Motorcycles don't kill people. People who can't drive kill people." He was unfortunately proven right one evening. He was traveling home late one Saturday evening, on the interstate, when he was hit by a drunk driver. He was sent flying. He laid there for hours on end, slowly bleeding out by the side of the road. His mangled body wasn't found until the next day.

However, that wasn't the end for Kubin. He was angry. He wanted revenge. He returned as a Wraith, and soon learned the circumstances of his death. He remembers one thing: The car had a painting of a spider on the back. He decided that to move on, he would have to get revenge on the man who killed him.

Powers: Victor's power is technokinesis. That is to say, he can merge with machines. He simply has to touch a piece of machinery with his mechanical right arm, and he can then absorb it with a single thought. He can only have one machine at a time, but he can alter how it works a bit. For example, if he absorbed a gas stove, he could then shoot a stream of fire from his hand.

Skills: Victor used to dote on his old motorcycle, and as such knows quite a bit about machines.

Wraith please!

Also, sorry for the delay and long wait, exams keep me busy. :(

Name: Slashing Dark

Age: Unknown, doesn't remember.

Gender: Male

Wraith or Psychopomp: Wraith

Appearance: Monster_Shade.png With Angrier eyes

History: Dark knows little of his life as a human, and thus, has little experience in his past. However, he seeks only revenge on one person - Tedros Narekand. He had murdered Dark in the most horrifying way possible, and now Dark will end what he started.

Powers: Dark has the ability to use phantom, poison and darkness powers. He can change into a human's shadow and control them from there, or even kill them. He can spray acid, burning the victim's face. And he can also create shapes from shadows which can kill a regular human easily.

Skills: Dark can make himself invisible for long periods of time, as well as go through walls. However, his intangibility makes him slower, unable to attack, and he can only use it for a maximum of 60 seconds. He can levitate to escape quickly.

Weaknesses: Light is a common counter for his dark powers, as it weakens him significantly. If placed directly in front of a light source (Other than the sun), he will lose his powers and the only way to save him is coming out of the way of the light source. Water can completely kill him, as it nullifies him completely. With water close by, Dark will feel uneasy and may faint.

Weaknesses: Light. Water.

Couple questions. Does his merging with the shadows only effect normals? Also, most of his skills are actually powers. Skills are things normal people can have, like knowing how to pick locks or sword fighting.

Also, what exactly do light and water do to him?

Finally, I'd prefer you put a limit on his intangibility. If he can just go intangible and acid enemies with no repercussions, that's pretty OP.

Fix this, and you're accepted.

By the way, if he's 25,300 years old, wouldn't that make it so he was a caveman when he died? I know Wraiths can live forever, but that's a bit excessive.

Can I reserve a spot for today I pick Psycho

Sure.

Name: Gemini

Age: Unknown, she doesn't remember the year she was born in.

Gender: Female

Wraith or Psychopomp: Wraith

Appearance: When she isn't using her powers, Gemini appears as a ten year old girl with some odd characteristics. Her height and weight is normal, and her dark skin tone is normal as well. But it's the hair and eyes that throw people off. Her hair, which everyone would expect to be black, is actually a bright white and very short and ruffled. While her eyes are a ruby red, which would have been expected to be dark brown. She's basically an albino with dark skin. Her outfit is a very simplistic blue dress with a black trim; she also wears a black cloak with it.

History: The only thing she remembers is the way she died and her astrological symbol, Gemini (which she took her name from). She died in a forest after being shot by a hunting rifle, and she remembered the face of the man who shot her, but she doesn't know his name or how she knew him in life. She at first assumed that it was an accident, but when she found herself as a Wraith, she realized that it was much more than an accident.

Powers: Gemini's appearance changes when she uses her powers. When this happens, her soul splits into two parts, and depending on her emotions, it turns her into one of two forms. When overcome with anger, the dark half of her soul becomes dominant and she transforms into a black dragon-like spirit with blue eyes. When in this form, she is very fast and powerful, but has horrible defense and can be taken down easily if she doesn't take you down first. Her blue eyes are where the dormant light half of her soul lies. If struck in the eye, it causes damage to the light half, which (if given a strong enough blow) can actually obliterate her soul, since she cannot exist with only one side. Now the second form is taken when she is overcome by fear, and the light side of her soul becomes dominant. Gemini is transformed into a white deer-like spirit with red eyes. She has medium speed, has great endurance, and can even heal allies, but she has absolutely no method of attack. The red eyes is where the dormant dark half of her soul is, and if struck in the eyes, there's a high chance that her soul would be obliterated without the dark half. Finally, if one of her forms is too weak to fight any more, her halves merge back into one and she goes back into her normal form (this also happens when her emotions are neutral again).

Skills: Gemini doesn't really have any other talents...

Name: Lightning

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Psychopomp: Psychopomps

Appearance:*Lightning is a young woman with long, light pink hair, and pale aqua-colored eyes. She wears a variation of the standard Guardian Corps uniform. The green metallic pauldron over her left shoulder bearing yellow stripes symbolizes her previous rank as a sergeant. She carries her gunblade in a black case which hangs off her belt, and wears a necklace with a lightning bolt pendant. Her l'Cie brand is located slightly above her left breast. She also has a navel piercing.

History:*Claire Farron's father died when she was young, and her mother died from an unknown illness when she was fifteen. With no other family to turn to, Claire raised her younger sister, Serah. To overcome the pain of her parents' deaths and to become an adult as quickly as possible, she changed her name from Claire Farron to "Lightning". However, despite the delusion of not needing her past, Lightning was still a normal and helpless child without her parents who wanted to be loved.

After graduating from high school, Lightning joined the Guardian Corps Bodhum Security Regiment under Lieutenant Amodar, where she attained the rank of sergeant and was scheduled for officer training. However, she began to lose sight of her goals, and worked many hours while spending little time with Serah.

Powers: Control of lightning, magical projectiles, and a couple more magic based skills

Skills: Able to wield gunblades.

I am absolutely certain I messed up somewhere...

Name: Talia

Age: 846, appears 17.

Gender: Female

Wraith

Appearance: Talia is deathly pale—so pale one can almost see straight through her. Her sickly-green hair reaches the back of her knees and is kept in rather fancy curls. The tip of each strand of hair secretes venom that causes paralysis. Her eyes are an eerie, luminescent red, and her pupils are slit like a cat’s. Her teeth are all razor-sharp, with her canines being several millimeters longer than the rest, and her tongue is long and forked. Two columns of four cord-like tentacles covered in tiny barbs run down her back, each ending in a poison-covered blade. These appendages can be completely retracted if necessary. Her lower arms are covered in hairlike needles, all of which are venomous. Her fingers end in claws, which, again, secrete poison. She has a long, reptilian tail ending in a sharp stinger, and the scales covering it are of the same color as her hair. Her feet only have four toes, with one on the back, and each ending in a sharp talon. She’s actually quite attractive, if one can get past the poison-secreting protrusions and the slasher smile she often sports.
She wears a frilly, white dress which conceals her tail.

History: There once was a princess from a faraway land. She would often sneak out to play with the children of commoners under the guise of a peasant girl named Solaine Sansouci. On her 17th birthday, she became engaged to the prince of a neighboring kingdom. However, there were some people who didn’t want that to happen for a variety of reasons. And so, they had both the prince and princess assassinated. But the poison they used to do the deed became part of the princess’s very soul. Thirsting for vengeance, she returned to the world of the living. But taking the lives of those who killed her wasn’t enough. No, before she could fill her heart with warmth, she needed to empty it of the venom which had stopped it.
In 1861, the wraith adopted the name “Talia”.

Powers: Talia, as mentioned previously, secretes venom so toxic, it can poison a person’s very soul. Side effects may include itching, vomiting, weakness, lack of energy, paralysis, extreme pain, death, or hair loss. She’s also very quick on her feet—far faster than any mortal—and can walk on water. However, the effect of her venom becomes diluted in extreme heat.

@Bad Apple, Accepted.

@MechromancerFTW, I'm afraid that there are no Guardian Corps or l'Cie in this game's world. It's more or less our world, just with ghosts living under everyone's noses.

@Charles Dunois, what exactly does the venom do? Probably accepted.

Yep I know just took that info of a wiki page just to give you an idea of her in game (FF 13) backstory I'm just giving you an idea of her, If you'd like I can change a few of the finer details.

Sorry, but characters from established franchises aren't allowed. I dun want someone coming in here with a Wraith named Spongebob Squarepants.

Edited. I hope it isn't too much.

Looks good.

Hello, bit of newbie to this community, but I do enjoy RPs, and this one looked interesting, so...

Name: Lizzie O'Conner

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Wraith or Psychopomp: Psychopomp

Appearance: Lizzie is relatively average in appearance, with shoulder-length brown hair that's dyed blonde at the tips. She's fit and healthy, but is still somewhat self-conscious about her appearance, especially since toned abs seem to allude her, wearing loose and comfortable clothing most of the time. She becomes much more confident when it comes to water, however, seeming to wear a two-piece swimsuit at all times instead of underwear.

History: Lizzie had always had an interest in the afterlife, though it was merely an academic curiosity. She would read about everything she could, from the myth of Orpheus to the reports of modern-day paranormal investigators. Of course, she had never expected to get so close to death as the day she almost died. She had been on a cruise with some of her friends when a sudden storm and a broken railing caused her to tumble into the ocean below. She struggled to stay above the water, but with the storm and the ship's wake, she was pulled below.

A few days later, her family was shocked to see her calmly walking through the front door. She claimed she had been saved by something, though didn't know what. Regardless of what had really happened, Lizzie discovered that she had been changed.

Powers: Lizzie is a natural in the water, swimming swiftly and able to hold her breath longer than natural. She can also control water to a limited degree, and has became more in tune with nature in general.

Skills: Lizzie has an excellent memory, nearly photographic. She also has a lockpicking hobby.
