The In-Game Team Advice Thread

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

So I'm kind'of reconsidering whether or not should I restart my Pokemon Platinum. This is so far my team before facing the Canalave gym leader.

1. DotA (Torterra), LV.39, female
-Cut
-Curse
-Mega Drain
-Earthquake

2. Falkner (Staraptor), LV.37, male
-Defog
-Endeavor
-Close Combat
-Fly

3. Sarge (Luxray), LV.38, male
-Tackle
-Swagger
-Charge
-Thunder Fang

4. Shadow (Ponyta), LV.38, female
-Take Down
-Tail Whip
-Fire Blast
-Flame Wheel

5. Silver (Bastiodon), LV.38, male
-Swagger
-Ancient Power
-Take Down
-Iron Defense

6. Jake (Lumineon), LV.38, male
-Surf
-Aqua Ring
-Rain Dance
-Gust

So any suggestion would be nice. I would also want to know whether I should restart or not.

How far do you want to go with this team? If you're planning on taking it to the battle frontier, you should be cautious: it has potential, but also suffers from many handicaps, such as multiple 4x weaknesses.

Torterra... Hmmm... It is such a great pokemon, except the ice weakness...
-Earthquake
-Wood Hammer
-Stone Edge/Superpower
-Rock Polish/Swords Dance/Tickle/Synthesis

Staraptor:
-Brave Bird
-Return
-Close Combat
-U-turn

Ponyta(Are you keeping it unevolved on purpose? You really should have evolved it by now). Fire types, except for infernape, arcanine, ninetales, and reshiram, are really terrible battlers, so you should probably replace this one. Maybe trade for Infernape.
-Flare Blitz
-Return
-Megahorn
-Iron Tail

Lumineon. Well, it has a great cry. That's all the positive things I can say about it.
-Agility
-Watefall
-Endure
-Flail

Luxray. Even worse than Lumineon, and that's saying something. I made the mistake of having a Luxray as my strongest Pokemon when I first played Platinum
-Thunder Fang/ Spark (Its strongest move! Can you beleive that?)
-Ice Fang(Just for BoltBeam)
-Crunch
-ThunderBolt??/Toxic?/Howl???

Bastiodon: So your Trainer ID is even?
It is a good wall, and I have two sets. Take your pick
Curse Wall Set:
-Curse/Iron Defense
-Iron Head/Metal Burst
-Stone Edge
-Magic Coat

Surprise Set:
-Metal Sound
-Flash Cannon
-Fire Blast/ Flamethrower/Thunder/ThunderBolt
-Ice Beam/Blizzard

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

After playing Black 2 for a bit, I'm wondering how I can improve my team in case I were to challenge the E4 again or the Black Tower.

Here's how they stand:

Serperior
Overgrow/BrightPowder
Moves: Leaf Blade, Giga Drain, Aerial Ace, Coil

Vaporeon
Water Absorb/Leftovers
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Haze, Shadow Ball

Steelix
Sturdy/Quick Claw
Moves: Earthquake, Iron Head, Fire Fang, Stealth Rock

Ampharos
Static/Magnet
Moves: ThunderPunch, Bulldoze, Cotton Guard, Thunderbolt

Arcanine
Intimidate/Shell Bell
Moves: Flamethrower, Thunder Fang, Outrage, Crunch

Lucario
Inner Focus/Big Root
Moves: Aura Sphere, Drain Punch, Dragon Pulse, ExtremeSpeed

All are around level 80, give or take a few levels.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Metagross' Hyper Beam has been replaced (competitively) with Hidden Power Water. Now with perfect weakness coverage Metagross is fully firing. However, I still need an item for my Heracross.

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Ponyta(Are you keeping it unevolved on purpose? You really should have evolved it by now).

Uh, Ponyta doesn't evolve until lv. 40. His is two levels below that.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to post my Black 2 team since I do plan to challenge the Black Tower. I've already beaten the league and all.

Serperior lv. 71
Gender: Female
Nature: Timid
Ability: Overgrow
Item: Big Root
Moveset:
- Cut (will probably swap for Toxic)
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Leaf Blade

Lopunny lv. 71
Gender: Male (though I normally prefer a female, this one had a great nature)
Nature: Naive
Ability: Cute Charm
Item: Rocky Helmet (seriously, Cute Charm's effect with some added damage? Love it)
Moveset:
- Jump Kick
- Dig
- Ice Punch
- Dizzy Punch

Flareon lv. 70
Gender: Male
Nature: Modest (balances out its attack and sp. attack, which I find nice)
Ability: Flash Fire
Item: Charcoal
Moveset:
- Lava Plume
- Fire Fang
- Fire Blast
- Bite (I'd like to replace this with something else...)

Eelektross lv. 70
Gender: Male
Nature: Naive
Ability: Levitate
Item: Leftovers
Moveset:
- Thunderbolt
- Crunch
- Spark
- Wild Charge

Unfezant lv. 70
Gender: Male
Nature: Lax
Ability: Big Pecks
Item: Sharp Beak
Moveset:
- Fly
- Air Slash
- Sky Attack
- Quick Attack

Golduck lv. 69
Gender: Male
Nature: Rash
Ability: Damp
Item: Mystic Water
Moveset:
- Strength (would eventually like to replace this, but with what, I'm not sure)
- Surf
- Hydro Pump
- Waterfall

Also, note: I AM NOT REPLACING LOPUNNY. I always use a Lopunny on my in-game team if I can because I think it's too adorable. And Cute Charm is a handy ability.

Thanks for the help, but I'm not a fan of Hidden Power that much, especially with the chance that my mon's IVs may not get the right HP suggested. Anything you suggest instead of HP?

Edit: checked with the NPC. Serperior does have Rock, and Ampharos does have Grass. Arcanine has Ice, Vaporeon has Poison.

If I could make some suggestions on movesets:

Serperior: You really don't need all three of those Grass moves. I would suggest that in addition to Cut, also get rid of Leaf Storm or Leaf Blade (Depending on if it's special attack stat is higher or lower than its physical attack stat). If it's special attack is higher, I would suggest replacing Leaf Blade with Dragon Pulse. If its physical attack is higher, I would suggest dropping Leaf Storm probably and replace it with Iron Tail or Outrage.

Lopunny: Actually looks pretty good already.

Flareon: I would suggest replacing Lava Plume with Heat Wave (Heat Wave is very similar to LP, but HW has more power and doesn't hit your allies). As for replacing Bite, which you pointed out, maybe Shadow Ball?

Eelektross: Thunderbolt isn't really useful. Eelektross usually has better Physical Attack (if yours happens on the off chance to have higher special attack, ignore this), so Spark and Wild Charge is plenty. As for replacing Thunderbolt, there are plenty of good options. Eelektross (Pokémon) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia

Unfezant: Doesn't really need 3 Flying moves. Maybe Giga Impact or U-Turn for attacks, or Double Team/Swagger for status.

Golduck: Definitely get Psychic instead of Strength. I would also suggest maybe Ice Beam instead of Hydro Pump for more coverage, but either way.

Hope I helped some :)

Hidden Power is amazing if it works, but it can take a lot of breeding to get right. As long as the power is good, use it for Vaporeon and Arcanine. Since it doesn't work for you, here's what I suggest.

Ampharos:
This pokemon suffers from a shallow movepool. Try Counter, Toxic, Rest, Focus Punch?

Serperior:
No Hidden Power means try a completely different moveset
SubSeed. Yeah, I use subseeders in-game
-Leech Seed(duh)
-Substitute
-Dragon Tail
-Energy Ball

Offense 1:
-Sunny Day
-Solarbeam
-Synthesis
-Growth

Offense 2:
-Leaf Storm
-Giga Drain
-Dragon Pulse
-Wring Out

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

As for my Steelix, I'm sure I can get it to work. Funny thing, though: Before I gave her Fire Fang, she had Ice Fang. :sweatlol: Your suggestion for Lucario seems perfect, especially if I have to confront Ghost types. I'll see if your suggestion for Vaporeon will work.

I already reset her Attack EVs to 0 for your original suggestion (ThunderBolt (which is kept), Thunder Wave, HP Grass, Focus Blast). What do you suggest as a substitute for Hidden Power in your original suggestion? I will try HP out for her though before I make a final decision. Alternatively, I may replace her with Lanturn (Volt Absorb ability; Signal Beam (considering replacing), Ice Beam, ThunderBolt, Surf).

Serperior:
No Hidden Power means try a completely different moveset
SubSeed. Yeah, I use subseeders in-game

-Giga Drain

-Wring Out
I'm going for Option 2, but may try out SubSeed for one I may breed later on.

What about Arcanine? Don't believe he could go that far with HP Ice...

Finally, another replacement I'm training is Reuniclus (Regenerator hidden Ability; Skill Swap (may replace with Focus Blast), Energy Ball, Psychic, Trick) What do you think?

About Arcanine: Have you thought about maybe going the physical route?
You have many options, use what you prefer:
-Flare Blitz
-Close Combat(Egg Move)
-Outrage
-Crunch
-Wild Charge
-ExtremeSpeed
-Iron Head

Reuniclus: A fantastic choice Typhlosionisafirebadger and I did a thorough discussion of Reuniclus on page 97, look there.

All right, thanks! Getting my team's move set going, or at least part of it. Will be taking a note on what I need to train.

Alright, that sounds good.

Lopunny: Actually looks pretty good already.

Ah, good. I'm glad I had the right idea in adding an ice type move and ground type move since none of my other Pokemon are of those types. :D

Flareon: I would suggest replacing Lava Plume with Heat Wave (Heat Wave is very similar to LP, but HW has more power and doesn't hit your allies). As for replacing Bite, which you pointed out, maybe Shadow Ball?

Not a bad idea at all. I'd have to figure out how to teach my Pokemon all these moves you're suggesting though.

Eelektross: Thunderbolt isn't really useful. Eelektross usually has better Physical Attack (if yours happens on the off chance to have higher special attack, ignore this), so Spark and Wild Charge is plenty. Yeah, it would do better with a physical move, true.

Unfezant: Doesn't really need 3 Flying moves. Maybe Giga Impact or U-Turn for attacks, or Double Team/Swagger for status.

I rarely, if at all, use status moves, especially Double Team and Swagger. I find the former never works for me (as in, I get too unlucky with it, whether I'm using it or my opponent is) and the latter to be too risky. Giga Impact causes the user to have to wait another turn to attack and I don't fancy that. U-Turn I could consider.

Golduck: Definitely get Psychic instead of Strength. I would also suggest maybe Ice Beam instead of Hydro Pump for more coverage, but either way.

Oh, I didn't think it could learn Psychic. Good idea.

Hope I helped some :)

Yes, you did, thanks. :)

These moves are a combination of TMs and BW2 move tutors.

and you're welcome :)

If you seriously do not know what "quick to flee" a Personality Value that raises speed means, I suggest you read about natures, personalities, and IVs on Bulbapedia.

Hmm... Your team looks like Berrenta's.

Okay, all of your pokemon have truly awful movesets: you don't need that many moves of the same type on a pokemon. Also, most of them have worthless natures that can even hinder them in battle.
Here's what suggest.

Serperior:
-Calm Mind
-Giga Drain
-Leaf Storm
-Dragon Pulse

Vaporeon
- Rest
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance

Arcanine
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Wild Charge
- Overheat

Lucario
-Aura Sphere
-Dark Pulse
-Calm Mind
-Ice Punch

Zoroark:
-Dark Pulse/ Night Daze (whichever you prefer)
-Flamethrower
-Grass Knot (I always use Extrasensory here, but you can't- it's an Egg Move)
-Nasty Plot

Sigilyph:
Sigilyph is one of my favorites, but it is fairly useless without access to the Egg Move "Stored Power". Whatever, you'll make do with what you have.
Since you're going offensive, use the Life Orb: Magic Guard blocks its drawback damage.
-Calm Mind
-Psychic
-Flash Cannon
-Roost

Is This a Good Friendly TEam For B/W2?

Hey everyone, this is my first thread on the forum. I play non-compettitive pokemon with friends, and I want a team that I would like to play. I have taken my 6 favorite pokemon, and put them in a team. How does it look? I don't have the team yet, I am wanting to see if it will be solid. Not sure of moves yet, but I have ideas for the basic roles of my pokemon.

Charizard
Special Sweeper

Sceptile
Trap layer/crippler

Jolteon
Crippler/ Special Sweeper

Lucario
Physical Sweeper

Hydreigon
All around support, anti dragon/ghost

Feraligatr
Physical wall/ Physical damage

So suppose this is at equal levels to opponent (Think in the ball park of 80). What moves would you reccomend, and is the team solid?

Ok. First make sure you know about natures, EVs, and IVs. You should have this knowledge before you train a team- otherwise you'll waste your time, have to start over, and make your pokemon sad because they're not strong.

First off, I think most of the team looks fantastic. The three starters, though, have problems.

First, I'll deal with the excellent members of the team.

Lucario:
Adamant or Jolly Nature
252 Atk/ 252 Spd (If you don't know what this means, look up "Effort Values" on Bulbapedia)
-Close Combat/Drain Punch (Do you want crushing power or staying power?)
-Crunch (Needs this for Ghost and Psychic Types)
-Extremespeed/Earthquake (Extremespeed with Adamant, Earthquake with Jolly)
-Ice Punch/ Swords Dance/ Agility (Ice Punch hits Ground types and Dragons, The boosting moves should boost whatever stat the Nature doesn't, Agility is an Egg Move)

Hydreigon
Modest or Timid Nature
252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spd
-Dark Pulse
-Dragon Pulse/ Draco Meteor (Is the stat drop worth it to you?)
-Flamethrower/ Fire Blast (For Ice and Bug types- Choose whichever)
-Earth Power (Egg Move, but necessary)

Jolteon:
Timid Nature
252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spd
-Thunderbolt/ Thunder (I recommend thunderbolt because of Accuracy)
-Shadow Ball/ Signal Beam (Jolteon has a shallow movepool)
-Hidden Power Grass or Ice (It takes a while but is worth it)
-Thunder Wave (Crippler?)

Now onto the ones I'm not so sure about.

How do you make Feraligatr into a wall? Any Ideas?
If not, here's its best sweeping set, the only one used nowadays.
Feraligatr
Adamant or Jolly Nature
252 Atk/ 252 Spd
-Dragon Dance/ Swords Dance (Use Dragon if you have Adamant Nature, and Swords Dance if you have Jolly. Swords is riskier but more powerful)
-Aqua Tail/ Waterfall (Power vs. Accuracy. Flinch too, so use Waterfall with Dragon Dance if you want to make them flinch)
-Ice Punch(covers Grass)
-Earthquake(covers Electric)

Sceptile.
I like this pokemon. I don't know how you make it into a trap layer, though. No one does this, so if you want to do this, ignore my advice.
Sceptile has no access to Spikes, Toxic Spikes, or Stealth Rock. All the traps it can use are Leech Seed and Worry Seed, which aren't very good.
If you want it to sweep, though:
Sceptile
Modest
252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spd
-Leaf Storm
-Focus Blast
-Dragon Pulse
-Energy Ball (Safer than Leaf Storm)

Charizard
Charizard suffers from the huge disadvantage of a 4x Rock Weakness. It will get KOed a lot.
Charizard needs Belly Drum, an Egg Move, to be truly great
Adamant
252 Atk/ 252 Spd (feel free to use a different spread here, this is not the best)
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake
- Belly Drum
- Substitute / Double-Edge

Re: The In-Game Team Review Thread

Rate my LeafGreen Team. I've been playing through LeafGreen, I currently have four Gym Badges,

Here's the team:

1. Vensaur, Level 36

-Tackle
-Poisonpowder
-Razor Leaf
-Vine Whip

2. Vamporeon, Level 36
-Water Pulse
-Quick Attack
-Aurora Beam
-Bite

3. Sandslash, Level 35
-Cut
-Slash
-Swift
-Dig

4. Fearow, Level 35
-Peck
-Pursuit
-Fly
-Aerial Ace

...

Obviously I don't have free access to moves, I plan on catching a couple more Pokemon later on, and my post-game team is massive, but I always like to get suggestions that I could use, so anyone got any ideas for Pokemon to use? So far the team has worked, although I feel a bit over-leveled at this point in the game.

Rate my Sapphire Team. Unlike LeafGreen, I don't even have a team planned out, so suggestions are much appreciated, I currently have two badges.

Here's the team:

1. Combusken, Level 19
-Ember
-Scratch
-Double Kick
-Peck

2. Pichu, Level 16
-Volt Tackle
-Double Team
-Thunder Wave
-Tail Whip

3. Aron, Level 10
-Tackle
-Harden
-Mud-Slap
-Headbutt

4. Magikarp, Level 7
-Splash

Two of mine are under-leveled, I traded the Pichu over as an egg from Emerald, and I got an Exp. Share in this game as well, I plan to even the levels out for all four.
